Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: My GD round was around 30min and topic for discussion was reservation. As in from starting I was against reservation of any kind .so I put my points to intiate the GD, where I give my very first opinion mentioning that I am against reservation cost it don't give equal opportunity to all. Then one of the other members speak up that it helps minorities to receive equal right in society, to which I resist by say if already a person belongs to higher class and have all the luxires then can he afford the quality education and rich the high without availing the reservation.if a person from general category have low family income but is willing to reach height by his/her hard work then due this reservation criteria he is set aside. Is that right on the part.?.To which no replies was given.then next point was about gender equality, women reservation.for 5min no other opponent speak up,so lastly I concluded and rest the GD.
Tips: The point to keep in mind during GD.
Always try to initiate and Conclude the discussion.
Secondly, always use the valid details and point to support your opinion.
Also ,never repeat the same points?.
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: Test
Experience: This round covers the 10 questions?to be answered in an hour time.
Questions ?were tricky.
Some questions where from technical learning learnt at college and rest were of aptitude and Reasoning.
Tips: Always try to attempt the question well known
Duration: 1 hour
Total Questions: 10

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This round was quite difficult..all the learning of previous year were to be tested..And the one taking my interview was also from same trade ,which makes it even more difficult.but ones the interview process started I feel the ease and was able to answer almost all ques. But to my threat I forgot the difference between LCD and LED. and ones I was out of the room I was able to recollect all the difference.
Tips: Always try to discuss the point you don't know with the interviewees so that you can enhance you knowledge.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Here my resume was checked and question were asked from.. everything point mentioned were asked.. specially my project word done in previous years.
Tips: Never copy paste your resume/CV. One should always be able yo anher his resume

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: While filling the essay form I did a lot of soul-searching. I understood myself better and appreciated my finer qualities.
Tips: First understand the profile the company wants. List all your interests and compare it with the profile. Pick the points from your interest list which you feel are relevant to the profile the company seeks. Pitch them in the appropriate manner.

General Tips: Just be yourself during interview. Be humble be calm and don't forget to smile. Don't lie in your resume and tell the truth like what you exactly feel. It is the interviewer who knows the parameters to judge you, so keep your points concise, do not exaggerate, and hope for the best.
Skills: Resume Writing, Interpersonal communication
Duration: 10 weeks
College Name: IIT Madras
Motivation: I had the prerequisite knowledge and experience about this profile that I learned from my team Raftar (FSAE Team, IIT Madras ). Mostly I got motivation from my friends and team leader Mohit.
Funny Moments: During the HR interview, in one question I started talking about Doraemon. After some time I started talking about women and girlfriends in general.

I applied via campus placement at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Shortlist procedure:
Shortlist was based on resume and a HR essay about Sony.
Sony cares only about your extra tech activities (Tech stuff that you do on your own and not as part of some Course..). It doesn't care even about your CGPA.
My resume was plain and simple with only one highlighted E2A Hackathon project and about my CORE internship in NARL, Tirupathi
As my resume doesn't have much of projects (which Sony looks for) I tried to write my essay as good as possible
Till my interview ending I thought that was the reason why I got shortlisted out of 100 people that applied for Sony but Japanese HR told at the end of interview that he didn't like the essay at all :-(
Tips: Highlight your Projects but not all of them, only the important ones.
I did quite a few other projects but I only highlighted this project.
I tried to write my resume in such a way that it makes the interviewer feel that I am dedicated to one particular thing at a time and after gaining sufficient knowledge, experience form that I moved onto another project.
Also they look for what do you do in your free time as in did you learn any programming languages in your free time...

Round: HR Interview
Experience: For me Technical and HR interview happened simultaneously.
Any interview can never get more easier than that.
None of the shortlisted candidates felt any kind of pressure, tension or discomfort during the interview.
My interview was as if I was talking to my friends. They were so kind down to earth and polite.
Some questions asked were:
1)Tell me about yourself? I didn't say anything wantedly (I don't like this question at all)
2)About Sony and Sony products used by me
3)Explain all the technical work done by you
4)anything that you know about the profile/work (about how Bluetooth headphones work... in my case)
5)parents opinion on Japanese intern

Tips: There was one more guy who is much ahead of me all the above mentioned projects... but maybe the reason why they selected me is because I was confident and didn't have any other second thoughts than cracking the interview .
One of my friend still had confusion whether to do research intern or Core intern.

Skill Tips: Do we have the zeal to work and do something productive, really good product on you own without someone always pushing you to do it.
They test this in different ways. Except the HR questions about JAPAN none of us had same questions, one had questions about courses she did. One guy had a lot of CFI projects (I had none) but they didn't ask him to explain about his projects. All questions seemed so random for us.
With all these random questions they somehow correlated to find their best match. One thing which I can say is those interviewers are highly qualified and their selection process is not random
Skills: Working on your own
Duration: 2.29
College Name: IIT Madras
Motivation: SONY name needs no introduction.
