If senior management is toxic and of frugal mentality who just wants to rake in more profits, then your work becomes hell and you don't have much to learn. Totally depends on senior management, if they are toxic ,then your efforts will go in vain. Projects have different requirements and often hire people to do same monotonous maintenance work, nothing new to enhance career. Appraisals and bonuses are minimal as close to 4-5 % , talented people don't get rewarded and promoted whereas favourable, non talented people get recognition.
