Stability is good. Though in the ongoing global recession, many of my co-workers had to leave projects because of project ramp down and did not get any other projects. Instead of recruiting employees from bench in other projects they are hiring more from people outside.
Appraisal is bad. So joining with low salary does not help much in the long run, better to switch.

Work depends upon what project you get. Had a chance to work on a small project from scratch.
Work timings are pathetic. You work at your regular timings and still have to login later for client calls. In my case mostly extending till midnight. The hybrid culture here is totally unproductive. Upper management is worse, expects you to be available anytime for calls.

I work in software testing as an automation plus manual tester. Nowadays there are many manual testers don't have opportunities in projects because projects are looking for those candidates who works in both! And what cognizant is doing that they show the client that candidate has experienced in both auto and manual and share fake profile with them. They just take normal interviews and select us. But once you get the projects, you will have lot of work which you never did earlier. And continuous work pressure will be there. Due to this there is no work life balance at all. We need to available with clients timings. I would request you my friends that if you don't know some things or not aware about any technology then just say no to the interview. Overall typical service based company, with lower appraisal %, ideal to stay for 3 years max, else growth would be stopped compared to market and you will be in comfort zone.
Appraisal cycle is worst, they do rating in Dec month and release in Jan, but appraisal will be in impact from June salary. Promotion is a problem here, and you will have to cry every year. It takes minimum 3 years once u r at one level to expect promotion.
