Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Filling the form on the HUL careers page was great as it eventually helped me in preparation for the non-technical questions asked in the interview
Tips: I think the four questions on the careers page should be given more importance

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: It was informative and fun.
Duration: 25 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: I was extremely happy by the way this interview was conducted as it wasn't testing of memory power (formulas or diagrams), rather the testing of my approach towards real life problems and how I would go about solving them, which is basically what one needs to do at any company

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This interview consisted of questions like, tell me about yourself, why HUL, why should HUL choose you, etc. which I believe are important questions and it's answers should be considered important by a company as it gives insight into a candidate's mind, character and plans for the future

General Tips: I would advice people not to prepare TOO MUCH in things which are not going to be helpful for them anywhere apart from the selection process. I would rather suggest them to concentrate on their everyday work (projects, academics, etc.) which is one of the major criteria of their selection, and just go along with the process.

Also another extremely important thing is believing in yourself and the things you have done as it will significantly add to your confidence during the interview. Also be truthful. Do not make up things or increase impact of your success than what it actually was
Skills: Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Ability To Think On Your Feet, Project, Knowledge Gained Through Recent Research Project, Approaching A Problem, Technical Analysis
Duration: 2
College Name: IIT Madras
Motivation: I want to become an industrialist, and HUL is one of the biggest which can offer me a lifetime experience. Also, their internship is extremely structured and their leadership program is amazing

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I had made a master resume first where I had listed down all the activities I had done.
Then based on which type of companies I was sitting for, I decided what parts should go into the one page resume
Once that was done I got it reviewed by seniors
HUL also has a form wherein certain questions regarding your life experiences will be asked. Make sure you can come up with good examples and try to be honest about it
Tips: Get your resume reviewed by as many seniors as possible

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: - Apart from HUL, I had also applied for ITC. ITC also had a GD.I hadn't done too well in the gd and wasn't even shortlisted for the interview
- Instead of being tense, I looked at why I had failed and tried to improve upon them in the HUL GD
Tips: -People who talk well and connect socially aren't necessarily going to do well in GD's.
-Its actually better to have a group with more number of people as the GD in whole would come to a nice conclusion
- Don't get panicked by looking at people who are in your GD
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The interview mostly focused on my experiences in my previous intern.Make sure you have prepared well for some standard questions.
A puzzle was also asked which I was able to answer easily.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: This was the most difficult round of all. Again, the whole interview tested my concepts in various courses including mass transfer, heat transfer, fluid mechanics etc... All the questions were related to a particular equipment that was the heart of the plant in my previous intern.
Tips: - Even though you may not be able to answer directly, don't panic. Its perfectly normal to take your time. Clarify your doubts first before answering. Take the panel through your thought process.

Skill Tips: - You should be thorough with all technical aspects of previous internships
Skills: Core Courses Concepts
Duration: 2
College Name: IIT Madras
Motivation: - Largest FMCG's
- Great stipend
- Awesome mentorship programme

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: I had a good time with Interviewers. They put you at ease while talking to you and help you at times (not always!). Like any other interview, just stay calm and think of all possible answers to questions asked.
Tips: Don’t fret about any particular answer but focus on your structure –the way you think and the way you present your answers to the interviewer. For ice cream factory one could think of VC, FC which include utilities, packaging, inventory, inbound/outbound etc. The interviewer at times provides more information in between answers to guide you(but don’t wait for it).Shelf space and LSCM concepts revolve around what causes variation in supply chain, incentive management and factory location/management [ If you know your LSCM well you’ll sail through such questions.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I had an experience of an internship at ITC Limited and that helped a lot. My Resume was perfect for a FMCG company and hence it helped me get shortlisted. A modest CGPA criteria of 7 was also set.
Tips: Your Resume should have some kind of an internship experience. An experience in a manufacturing plant will certainly help you a lot.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: We were given handouts to read the case and also to look at the questions in the end. The group was expected to discuss on the problems that the company was facing and then to answer the concerns(questions) in the end that were given.
Tips: The recruiters were not looking for people who start the GD or who end but the people who let others speak and who moderate the discussion. You are not supposed to give some out of the box solutions but are expected to work in a team on the implementation of the same.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: FORM SUBMISSION
Tips: Be true in the answers and stick to the word limit.

Round: GROUP DISCUSSION
Experience: Students are shortlisted on the basis of form (HUL doesn’t ask for resumes). Then, GDs are conducted in a group of 8-10. The topics are like case-studies which highlight some problem being faced by an organization and you need to come up with some solution for the same.

Round: TECHNICAL + HR INTERVIEW
Experience: Students are further shortlisted after the GD for final interview. One should be thorough with his resume and should be in a position to explain the internships well. I encountered a lot of situation based questions in which I was asked to come up with solution for some typical problems faced in a factory.

General Tips: Do’s :
1. Work well on communication skills. It happens a lot that students have a lot of knowledge but couldn’t communicate well. So, do mock interviews and make sure you are able to explain what you know.
2. Have a knowledge about the company you are applying to. This reflects your motivation and seriousness towards the company.
Don’ts :
1. Resume, aptitude and GD should be done with good time in hand as they can’t be improved over night.

Apart from the standard things, I would advise that confidence and smile goes a long way.
Preparation of resume, aptitude, GDs, technical part is very important but I believe that at the end, communicating yourself well is the most important thing.
Skill Tips: Do mock interviews and make sure you are able to explain what you know.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: First stage: Usually lasts 30 minutes. This interview is majorly Technical. The candidate is asked to specify a topic of interest on which further questions will be asked. Extensive and intrusive questions about the internship done will also be asked.
Tips: Do not choose topics that you are not entirely thorough with. Also, even if the interviewer asks about the previous company's personal details, beyond a stage, do not divulge. They wouldn’t want you doing the same with their company.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Lasts for around 45 mins to 1 hours. It is usually telephonic. Standard HR questions will be asked. The company expects the students to have great capability of handling human relationships as they will be working with factory workers on a day to day basis.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: It was a tricky problem. I gave five minutes to thinking that what I would have done if I would have had been there and kind of broke down the problem using the consultancy approach I had studied. I focussed over the maximum profitability of company on production and quality and tried to compromise a little bit on Human resources.
As I opened and concluded the discussion myself with major inputs, it went pretty well for me
Tips: - Be practical in approach
- Dont just give points for the sake of talking - it goes in negative side
- HUL focusses a lot on GD - more than interviews - as the problems are real life cases - so be really prepared (if you didn't have any supply chain experience - sit with someone who had it earlier and discuss problems as mentioned)

Round: HR Interview
Experience: - Hobbies were asked

Tips: - Keep calm
-Be who you are!!

Round: Technical Interview

I was lucky that i got the work with a good package - but anybody can make money - there are very few who really realise their passion! you will get what you deserve - No less no more! :)
Skill Tips: HUL demands really good leadership skill experience. Mechanical Engineering books helped :p ( I didn't study for it , though this was my first priority - p&g intern helped).
Be prepared about their vision - try to incline them with yours! It impresses them like anything - worked for me at least!
Skills: Technical , Leadership, Teamwork
College Name: IIT BOMBAY
Motivation: Its sustainability causes! check out their investment on sustainaibility designing of future retail! Mindphack!
It has the biggest CSR investment and its pay is high too, money with your dreams - who doesnt need that, huh!? :D
Funny Moments: Interviewer 1 : So, on which brand were you exactly working at p&g?
Me: Sir I guess I am not allowed to say that provided I have signed a confidentiality agreement with p&g
Interviewer 1 : They are not hiring anyone this time, it doesn't matter now, right?
Me : Sir, lets take a condition replacing p&g with HUL and vice versa in this condition - would you have liked me leaking your data? It wouldn't have mattered me even then :D
Interviewer 1 : -_-
Interviewer 2 : Haha :D :D
