Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Resumes of the interested students were sent to the company and then they shortlisted the students for the written round.
Tips: Your resume should be at most two pages long and should contain everything about you but it must be to the point. You must be thorough with every line that is written in your resume. It's just a basic criteria which is generally met by everybody.

Round: Test
Experience: The paper consisted of objective aptitude questions. The main area of focus should be probability and combinatorics since it requires more practice than the rest of the topics.
Tips: You should brush up your aptitude skills because every company that you sit in for has a section of it in the written or online test. You must not neglect it in any cost. Although the basic aptitude skill of every student is good, but what matters during the test is the speed and accuracy and that only comes with practice. The higher the marks you get in this section, the better are your chances to score higher than your fellow peers. Although the marks in the test are not the sole criteria for the result, but it does play an important role in your selection.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Questions: 45

Round: Guesstimate Interview
Experience: This was the first round of four interviews that I altogether faced. The above three questions were asked to me serially. But before that, I had been asked to give a brief introduction of me. I had solved all three of them. The first question didn't take much time. Since I am not that interested in solving puzzles, I took some time in solving the second question but eventually I did it. The third question is a guesstimate. I started solving it with the inputs being given by the interviewer and I moved closer and closer to a realistic range as per the data inputs that were given to me.
Tips: The practice that I did for aptitude helped me in solving the first question. That's why putting in a little effort in improving your aptitude skills will ultimately help you. The puzzle questions can be found on the internet and you just have to go through them once. After a while, you will be well acquainted with them and you won't face any problem in solving them. And for the guesstimate, the best option you have is Google. Surf the internet and you will get loads of them and how to approach them. They are the questions that are used to check how you approach a problem.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: This was my second round in which I was asked only two question and both were puzzles. I could answer both but my approach in the second question was wrong first. The interviewer made me clear and then asked me to answer. After the questions, we had a conversation on my doubts regarding the work and the company.
Tips: The puzzles as I already said can be practiced from the internet. But the most important point is you need to clearly understand the question before answering them. The second question was a conventional one but with a twist, which actually checks how attentive you are. So you need to hear and understand the questions properly. In case you do not understand in the first go, ask your interviewer to pardon again.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: The third interview consisted of a simple probability question and a case study. The case was a Cement Company in India that was losing its market share and I had to describe the reasons considering the constraints were given to me.
Tips: You can easily get the examples of case study problems along with the ways of solving them, on the internet. The most important thing is you need to think out of the box of all the possibilities to analyze the case from an unconventional domain.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This round was taken by two persons simultaneously. There was one puzzle asked and the rest of the interview went on with general HR questions and answers.
Tips: HR rounds are the easiest of all in the interviews of technical companies. You only need to prove what you say. There must be no contrast in what you speak and what you think at that point of time. At no instance of the interview you must contradict yourself.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: There were 3 Job profiles open of opera solutions (Solution Analyst, Analytics Specialist, and Software Engineer). Students are asked to sign just for one profile. There was a test for analytics and software profile and direct interview for solution profile (Consultant profile).
Tips: Spend enough time before choosing the profiles. Spoke to senior who had a similar job and figure out your best suitable profile and prepare accordingly.

Round: Test
Experience: Opera solution conducts workshop for shortlisted candidates. In the workshop, they mostly tell about technical part behind big data management such as Mainframe and Hadoop. After the workshop, the test was conducted. The test had two sections, the first section contains objective questions around 20-25 (I did not remember the exact number). Objective questions were of aptitude type (moderate level of difficulty). The second section contains 5-6 subjective questions, mainly focus on probability again the moderate level of difficulty. 30 students were shortlisted for next round (interview round).
Tips: Start preparing as early you can. Practice problem daily does not wait for last few day. The main point of practice is to develop a habit of increasing accuracy and speed which is the crucial points of aptitude test.
For probability practice, there are online website and blogs you can take help from them. I have listed down some which are used. You should have some prior practice before setting for test otherwise, it would be difficult to do well in the test as some questions are tricky and difficult to solve in the first time.
For aptitude practice, you can refer TIME material, I think that is sufficient.

Round: Guesstimate Interview
Experience: The interviewer first goes through my resume and ask some basic question, not in depth. Then he asked me some puzzle (similar type of question asked in the subjective paper but with a high level of difficulty) and one guesstimate.

The interviewer gave me feedback and point out some area on which I can quickly look it for further interview.

Tips: I have assigned a buddy, IIT graduate having the same specialization. (Opera solutions follow buddy program similar of other consultant company). You get some aspect on which domain you need to work.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Next round was the telephonic interview with a senior analyst. The interviewer asked me some question from my resume especially on the technical project which involves some mathematics tool.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The test had two parts, the first part consisted of 20 objective aptitude questions and the second part had 5 subjective questions, which were of moderate level of difficulty. 30 people were shortlisted for the final round of interviews.

Round: technical interview
Experience: The first interview was mostly related to my resume and the projects related to statistics that I had done during internships. He also asked me some questions related to regression analysis followed by a simple puzzle.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: The second interviewer asked me two- three puzzles and then we had some discussion related to my interest in data science.

Round: case study interview
Experience: In third interview he asked me two puzzles followed by a case. The interviewer was very helpful and he only wanted to see my approach.

Round: technical interview
Experience: The final interview was a telephonic interview with a senior analyst. He asked me some questions on my internship projects. I was also asked a guess estimate problem.

General Tips: Do’s and Don’ts :

Concentrate on at most two sectors because it is very difficult to prepare for more than two sectors. Also, do not write anything which you are not sure about in your resume because you may feel that it would be helpful for getting shortlisted but considering that your resume would drive your interviews so it is very necessary that you are confident about the things in your resume. Placement Experience (write in different section for different companies)

Final Tips :
Start preparation as early as you can. Decide what kind of work you would like to do and then decide what sectors you want to prepare for. Be in touch with the seniors who are working in the firms that you are targeting. Their advice would be very helpful. Also do some mock interviews in wing or attend the workshops conducted by SPO.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: When I reached the interview room of Opera, they informed me that they were impressed with my CV and I that had a good chance there.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: It was based on puzzles and machine learning questions. They told me that I had almost made it, and only a final formality round with a person from US was remaining. Between those interviews I got a call from GE saying that they are done with all the remaining candidates and if I didn’t reach there in 10 minutes, they’ll pack up and leave. I had to make a tough decision between continuing with a company that I had a good chance at or go for a company that I didn’t wish to join. I politely told them that I am busy with other companies and hence I won’t be able to come.

Round: telephonic interview
Experience: I had the 4th and the final telephonic round with Opera towards the end of Slot1, which was to judge whether I was really interested in working at Opera.
