Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: CV should focus on the skill set previously mentioned. Concise and to the point sentences. Line out projects and internships well. Balance between academia and extra curriculars. Attend the CV making workshop of Opera and work on it accordingly.
Tips: Don’t put things totally irrelevant to the job profile. Don’t write long sentences. Know your CV well for further stages.Anything related to your CV should be at the tip of your tongue.

Round: Test
Experience: Don’t spend a lot of time on one question in quant section. There’s a cut-off in Quant and your focus should be on clearing it. If you clear the cut-off, the puzzle section will be evaluated, where solving at least 2 is generally good enough. Puzzles are hard, and need a lot of prior practice.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Direct selections take place at the end of all interviews after a mutual discussion between all the panels. Know your CV thoroughly. Prepare for some HR questions as well. Puzzle solving and guesstimates are asked, so prepare them well. When you are asked a puzzle, do not sit quietly but think aloud. The interviewers help you structure your thoughts. Most of the times, just knowing your approach is enough for them
Tips: Evaluate the nature of your interviewer for the first 5 minutes and if possible treat the interview like a discussion. They just want to know more about you so tell it to them. Most of them are very friendly, and you will feel at ease. Be confident. Sound excited while talking about your projects/internships. It gives them confidence in you. Be very very thorough with your CV. Nothing gives a bad impression like not knowing about yourself. Ask questions if you have them at the end of the interview.

General Tips: 1: Be Confident.
2: Keep Smiling.
3: Do not be Panic.
4: Remember they are here to hire you but not reject you.
5: Do not loose hope.
6: Believe at yourself.
7: Start preparing early.
8: Do demo interviews with your friend.
Skills: Mathematics, Computer Science

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I went through a few templates & took help from some seniors. I prepared a few drafts and then later made improvements. IT might be a good idea to prepare well in advance and get your resumes reviewed from seniors in the companies you are applying. As probably you'll get to hear a lot, focus more on what you have achieved rather than just stating what all you have done. Keep it simple and short. And don't add anything you are not comfortable talking about in an interview. I know many capable people who didn't get short listed for Mck/BCG just because they didn't think resume was a big deal. I attended most of the PPTs. They are informative, but don't always help you decide what you want, the best part are the pizzas of course. Talk to seniors in the companies that you are interested in but remember these seniors are now employees of the company and will usually not say a single bad word about the job. Apart from seniors, try talking to people who will give your interests priority over the company (cousins, close friends).

Round: HR Interview
Experience: There was an initial shortlist of about 25 and a waiting list of 20 based on resumes. After the first round of interviews (one interview each), about 10 candidates were short listed. After the second round of interviews (2 interviews each), 3 final offers were made. All interviews were both case study and HR. A few questions based on the resume, the normal HR questions and a couple of them. Interview revolved around the normal HR questions, then he asked me something about which Indian company do I admire the most and why. To be honest I wasn't really prepared for this one. Next was a case of sort. He asked me that if I was the director of IIT Bombay and it was a private institute, what steps I would take to generate funds and make it a profitable institution. I think my answer revolved around generating funds from alumni, getting research grants from big companies, raising fees but providing adequate loans and repayment options, allowing shops inside campus, raising funds through placements.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: The interviewer was asking everybody the same case, as he said he wanted to measure everybody on the same platform. I don't recall the case very precisely but since it was the same for everyone, I am sure somebody else must have written it in their interview experience.

Round: Behavioural Interview
Experience: The third interview started with questions like why consulting, which other companies did I appear for, how did I fare, what went wrong etc. They also wanted to know if I had appeared for CAT or GRE. Then we moved onto the other HR questions about my aspirations, immediate plans etc. The case that I got was particularly interesting. The case was how to increase the revenue of my dads manufacturing unit (my dad has a hosiery manufacturing unit) by 5 fold in 3 years. This was also easy since I had all the facts that I needed before I even started. I didn't have to ask the interviewer for any clarifications or dig for any facts. So I started with increasing working hours to 2 shifts of 8 hours each. Then I would increase exports by exporting to Europe and US by manufacturing in summers and for African and South American nations in winters. Australia would not be a market as all the raw material mostly comes from Australia and it would be hard to compete with the Australian domestic manufacturers. Then an year or so later, I would look to launch my own brands and work a franchise model as I didn't have much experience with the retail business. Launching my own brand would bring much better margins. I also discussed the possibility of attracting brands like GAP, ZARA, C&A yet not available in India and manufacturing for the domestic market. I also discussed the possibility of entering the other segments of garment market as I had the required contacts & reputation in the market. All I had to do was set up new manufacturing facilities. The case was again followed with a couple of HR questions.

General Tips: Take things more seriously than we tend to in IIT Bombay. Especially for those preparing for tech and i-banks, study hard..

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Objective had 15 questions in 30 minutes. Objective section was very easy.
Duration: 30 minutes minutes
Total Questions: 15

Round: Test
Experience: Subjective paper had 5 puzzles in 30 minutes. Subjective was good but not very tough. Thirty minutes were somehow not enough for five puzzles. I think they also considered resume while short listing.
Duration: 30 minutes minutes
Total Questions: 15

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: I was first asked about my resume, intern etc. followed by why not PhD. I was asked some simple puzzles from tech-interview.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: They asked me one case study. Then they asked me GS or opera. I told them it would be GS (I shouldn’t have told them about GS). Then they didn’t select me for second round.

College Name: IIT Kanpur

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The test had two parts, the first part consisted of 20 objective aptitude questions and the second part had 5 subjective questions, which were of moderate level of difficulty. 30 people were shortlisted for the final round of interviews.

Round: technical interview
Experience: The first interview was mostly related to my resume and the projects related to statistics that I had done during internships. He also asked me some questions related to regression analysis followed by a simple puzzle.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: The second interviewer asked me two- three puzzles and then we had some discussion related to my interest in data science.

Round: case study interview
Experience: In third interview he asked me two puzzles followed by a case. The interviewer was very helpful and he only wanted to see my approach.

Round: technical interview
Experience: The final interview was a telephonic interview with a senior analyst. He asked me some questions on my internship projects. I was also asked a guess estimate problem.

General Tips: Do’s and Don’ts :

Concentrate on at most two sectors because it is very difficult to prepare for more than two sectors. Also, do not write anything which you are not sure about in your resume because you may feel that it would be helpful for getting shortlisted but considering that your resume would drive your interviews so it is very necessary that you are confident about the things in your resume. Placement Experience (write in different section for different companies)

Final Tips :
Start preparation as early as you can. Decide what kind of work you would like to do and then decide what sectors you want to prepare for. Be in touch with the seniors who are working in the firms that you are targeting. Their advice would be very helpful. Also do some mock interviews in wing or attend the workshops conducted by SPO.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: When I reached the interview room of Opera, they informed me that they were impressed with my CV and I that had a good chance there.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: It was based on puzzles and machine learning questions. They told me that I had almost made it, and only a final formality round with a person from US was remaining. Between those interviews I got a call from GE saying that they are done with all the remaining candidates and if I didn’t reach there in 10 minutes, they’ll pack up and leave. I had to make a tough decision between continuing with a company that I had a good chance at or go for a company that I didn’t wish to join. I politely told them that I am busy with other companies and hence I won’t be able to come.

Round: telephonic interview
Experience: I had the 4th and the final telephonic round with Opera towards the end of Slot1, which was to judge whether I was really interested in working at Opera.
