Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: We were asked to reach the venue for testing at 6 in the evening. As per usual the regular pattern, we were given our codes for the portal for the online test. The first section was the Quantitative Aptitude and the second section was the English Grammar. Each section was of 30 minutes each. Although there was no time limit that was being showed on the portal for completing the test, we were to keep in mind that we only had 30 minutes and had to pace ourselves accordingly.
Tips: For Quantitative Aptitude - The questions were easy, but in these kind of tests, speed is what matters, and therefore practice is the key. Practice, practice and practice.
English - This section was rather tricky and required focused attention as most of the options to the questions seemed very similar. So, focus.

No one really knows which company might give what weight-age to the section and that ultimately decides the shortlist onto the next rounds. So try to sharpen your skills in both Aptitude and English.

Interview Questions

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: 30 questions in 30 minutes for aptitude section and 50 questions in 30 minutes for technical section.sectional cutoff was there. questions were easy; especially in technical section no calculation was required. questions were mostly from machine design, heat and mass transfer, metallurgy and few questions from other subjects like SOM, KOM, thermodynamics, industrial(basic). Aptitude section was comprised of quantitative(time and distance, mixtures, etc), verbal reasoning(antonyms, synonyms, etc), logical reasoning(pattern identification, odd one out, etc.).

Tips: Practice from indiabix as many questions were directly from there. mechanical handbook for GATE will also be useful.
Duration: 1 hour
Total Questions: 80

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: first he asked me about my family background and then came directly to my projects. i have not done any internships but i did four projects during my academics, all of them were on automobiles. he asked my role in the projects, what i did, how i did, problems i faced during my projects etc. then he came to my AOI, and asked me some questions which i have mentioned above. all they wanted to know was that whether i know what i have mentioned in the resume(projects, AOI).
Tips: keep good knowledge of your projects and your AOI(area of interest). if you have done co-curricular activities(like participation in SAE events, projects etc.) it will be a plus point.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: in this round they wanted to check whether i am really interested in the job or not. i had told him earlier that i want to work in RnD job profile. so he told me that i would be doing job in maintainance department then why do you want to join our company, here i justified my point(may be that's why i got selected).
Tips: be honest and confident

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Resumes of the interested students were sent to the company and then they shortlisted the students for the written round.
Tips: Your resume should be at most two pages long and should contain everything about you but it must be to the point. You must be thorough with every line that is written in your resume. It's just a basic criteria which is generally met by everybody.

Round: Test
Experience: The paper consisted of objective aptitude questions. The main area of focus should be probability and combinatorics since it requires more practice than the rest of the topics.
Tips: You should brush up your aptitude skills because every company that you sit in for has a section of it in the written or online test. You must not neglect it in any cost. Although the basic aptitude skill of every student is good, but what matters during the test is the speed and accuracy and that only comes with practice. The higher the marks you get in this section, the better are your chances to score higher than your fellow peers. Although the marks in the test are not the sole criteria for the result, but it does play an important role in your selection.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Questions: 45

Round: Guesstimate Interview
Experience: This was the first round of four interviews that I altogether faced. The above three questions were asked to me serially. But before that, I had been asked to give a brief introduction of me. I had solved all three of them. The first question didn't take much time. Since I am not that interested in solving puzzles, I took some time in solving the second question but eventually I did it. The third question is a guesstimate. I started solving it with the inputs being given by the interviewer and I moved closer and closer to a realistic range as per the data inputs that were given to me.
Tips: The practice that I did for aptitude helped me in solving the first question. That's why putting in a little effort in improving your aptitude skills will ultimately help you. The puzzle questions can be found on the internet and you just have to go through them once. After a while, you will be well acquainted with them and you won't face any problem in solving them. And for the guesstimate, the best option you have is Google. Surf the internet and you will get loads of them and how to approach them. They are the questions that are used to check how you approach a problem.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: This was my second round in which I was asked only two question and both were puzzles. I could answer both but my approach in the second question was wrong first. The interviewer made me clear and then asked me to answer. After the questions, we had a conversation on my doubts regarding the work and the company.
Tips: The puzzles as I already said can be practiced from the internet. But the most important point is you need to clearly understand the question before answering them. The second question was a conventional one but with a twist, which actually checks how attentive you are. So you need to hear and understand the questions properly. In case you do not understand in the first go, ask your interviewer to pardon again.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: The third interview consisted of a simple probability question and a case study. The case was a Cement Company in India that was losing its market share and I had to describe the reasons considering the constraints were given to me.
Tips: You can easily get the examples of case study problems along with the ways of solving them, on the internet. The most important thing is you need to think out of the box of all the possibilities to analyze the case from an unconventional domain.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This round was taken by two persons simultaneously. There was one puzzle asked and the rest of the interview went on with general HR questions and answers.
Tips: HR rounds are the easiest of all in the interviews of technical companies. You only need to prove what you say. There must be no contrast in what you speak and what you think at that point of time. At no instance of the interview you must contradict yourself.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The interviewer looked interested in the Resume and asked each and every Project that I wrote in it. The way he shook my hand after the interview was over, I knew I have cleared this Round.
Tips: If you have done your project yourself, no worries. If you have borrowed the project kindly study it thoroughly.

Round: Behavioural Interview
Experience: Before Leaving I told the interviewer: "Hope to see you soon" just to have his reaction and know if I have cleared this round.
Tips: He was looking how well can I fit in the companies environment. Be on your toes, and don't give a casual attitude.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Best Interview which I gave, the interviewer was pretty much impressed by my personality. When asked to areas of improvement he told me that technically I have not taken any wrong step throughout my academics though he told me that despite of my ideas for managing the team where good, I lacked in the way how I communicated those Ideas with the Team Members
Tips: Always ask for your feedback once the interview is finished. Try to get what all things you are missing. Keep a smiling face irrespective of the result, if you get upset by rejections and it reflects on your face how can anyone hope that you can hold yourself together in tough times.
