Most senior leaders are PPT presenters but not engineers and doesn't have any engineering experience, they never coded in their career and are from service based companies with staffing knowledge and made Optum as a third grade staffing company. Few engineering leaders at Sr Director level they don't know what is an API, forget about Modernization & Cloud. To survive in that organization you just need to be nice with the manager just say"yes boss" and you need to be on their favorite group and I have seen experienced hard working people all fired and their credit given to manager's favorite people. If you write anything on the Surveys you will be threatened and first of all no use of surveys as US management never paid attention to it. Scrape for work. The teams are overstaffed, so politics is natural. Evenhough the salary is average, still looking at the deliverables it feels being overpaid. With a lot of hierarchy and bureaucracy, logic takes a backseat. Documentations are decent but some people are so incompetent that they will waste time by scheduling multiple calls to understand 2+2=4. Their mouths are too small to even spoon feed the complex problems. Still they get by. No one has end goal in mind so many tech discussions wander off point. Objective discussions and deep dives are rare. People are always busy for some reason. Higher management is not employee friendly. There are empty talks by leaders about wlb here, I don't think anyone really means it or they are too much disconnected from the working folks. Scheduled 1:1s are a chore and doesn't address actual issues. I suggest reach out to your work horses informally and most importantly observe their contributions. Insurance benefit is pretty dismal.
