I joined Deloitte as a contractor through a consultancy. At Deloitte, only 10% of the workforce are direct permanent employees, while the remaining 90% are hired as contractors. Unfortunately, contractors do not receive benefits such as family health insurance, food coupons, stack rankings, or salary hikes for up to one and a half years. From day one, there's a clear distinction between Full Time Employees (FTEs) and contractors. FTEs receive comprehensive benefits including health insurance, mobile phones, and other perks, whereas contractors are treated differently, often lacking job security.The use of the term 'contractors' feels dehumanizing; we are all professionals deserving of respect and fair treatment. Mistakes are inevitable as humans, yet the tolerance for performance dips seems much lower compared to industry standards. During a period of low performance, I was given only one month to improve, whereas elsewhere, employees typically receive 3-4 months to address performance metrics.My sudden termination came as a shock; I received an email notifying me of my termination, leaving me jobless for the past four months. The current job market challenges have made it difficult for me to meet financial commitments and support my family. My experience in the support department lacked security and opportunities for advancement.
