Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Written test- Two papers consisting of General Aptitude and Branch Specific Questions. I found the latter to be a comparatively tough paper.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: It was quite short (approximately 15 to 20 minutes). The interviewer asked questions related to a form which everyone was required to fill before going for the interview. This form also contained a question asking one to list three subjects. The interviewer generally asks questions based on these. Also, I faced two or three questions related to the PPT.

General Tips: It was not as tough as I imagined it to be; in fact, quite simple compared to the day long grind, which students from other branches face.
Skill Tips: General Revision of Subjects should be just fine. Listen attentively to the PPT. Explain your answers in simple terms, do not use high-level mathematics.

Interview Preparation Tips

General Tips: A Stone Is Broken By The Last Stroke Of Hammer. This Doesn't Mean That The First Stroke Is Useless. I started preparing for placement when 7th sem started. Got rejected by many companies but kept on preparing. Finally got placed at the end of 7th sem. Whatever I studied from beginning till end helped me. Overall I can’t explain my experience. You have to feel it when your time will come.
Skill Tips: Read basics of Compressors, Turbines, Pumps, Thermodynamic cycles. Most of the questions were from these subjects. Beside that, they asked some general questions from other subjects.e.g.- Difference between 2-stroke and 4-stroke IC engine, Tolerance grade, relative humidity etc. Be thorough with your industrial training because most of the time interviews starts with questions from your industrial training.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Apti followed by technical test 1hr each.
Duration: 60 minutes

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Shorlisted candidates were called for interview.

General Tips: HR interview was the toughest. Rapid fire questions - will let you no time to think. Unless you answer them carefully & wisely they will find a way to pull your legs. Do not get depressed if you are rejected. It is definitely not that others are better than you- only luck was on their side. Every company that registers will bring you ample opportunity to manifest your learning in this college, you will realize that the wait was worth it only on the day you get placed.
Skill Tips: Think smart and do your best in the test, do not badger yourself with tough & complex questions. Be thorough with basic concepts especially the elementary things. Interview questions will cover diverse topics from various fields. They do not expect you to be an expert in everything, but you will have to know basics for example- I was asked working of an IC engine, Eddy current phenomena and how its employed as testing method, wrought vs cast products, etc. If you do not know something, be frank and say it loud and clear.

Interview Preparation Tips

General Tips: The technical paper is not that easy (But it doesn't matter much since it's all relative). This is the basic tip for any interview- try to keep the interviewer in the subject that you know about it. A lot depends on the HR person. Just be frank with him. Give 'to the point' answers. The whole process took two days and in the end I was satisfied. The interviews were easy to handle, compared to many other companies that I had sat for.
Skill Tips: It is important to have some basic technical knowledge when you are sitting for a core company. If you have done your project in a core subject, please be thorough with that. As for people from EEE, important topics that RIL asked questions on: Machines- Induction motors, Synchronous Machines, Transformers. Also try to understand the basic concepts of DCMachines. Just basic understanding of these subjects as taught in class is enough.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Core- 30 questions + aptitude- 20 questions . There was negative marking.
Tips: 1) The aptitude part of the paper was similar to CAT, although it was much easier.
2) The core part had questions mainly from DOME , turbomachines and Hydraulics.
Duration: 50 minutes

Round: Interview
Experience: It was fully core. Basically it was all from turbomachines and DoME.

Although there was no separate HR round, few questions such as why reliance, how do you see yourself after three years were asked.

Skill Tips: Fifteen days before the placement is sufficient if one targets only core. However, if one targets non-core, then starting early would definitely help.
A candidate must ensure analysis of CGPA Vs Percentage of people placed in core, so that junta could have clear target and prepare accordingly.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Reliance had an aptitude test which was one of the easiest. I got shortlisted for the interview which had two rounds.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: A quick skim through my departmental courses before the interview and my industrial trip during the third year helped a lot in answering those questions.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: It lasted for 15 minutes maximum.

Skills: Metallurgy, Metal Casting
College Name: IIT KANPUR
Motivation: According to me, it is really important at the first stage to identify the sector that one wants to pursue and then target that sector and then work towards it. One must set realistic goals and one must be prepared for the worst case scenario.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: the test had aptitude and technical sections in equal parts. the aptitude part was very easy, you have to score almost full in this section if you are from IITs. The technical part was also easy, but you have to get your basics right to score well in the test.Once you got through the test round, you have great chances of getting the job.During my placement, they selected people who scored above 90%.
Tips: In the technical round, all the topics will be covered, so you should be clear with your basics in all the topics.I had to put special attention on topics such as pumps since it was not taught for us.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: If you have an above average CGPA, they try really hard to eliminate you in the technical round, so brace yourself and be ready for it.If you are an average pointer, you will find it relatively easy, you will get through the round provided you don't show your stupidity.
Mine was a stress interview right from the start, they didn't agree upon whatever I said. In fact at one point one of the interviewer turned towards another and just said "yeh kuch bhi boltha hai yaar". At the end I got through. I attribute my success to the tolerance and patience I showed during the interview.Whatever they say try not to give up and try to answer their questions in a crisp manner.
They asked questions about my projects as well as questions on application of chemical engineering in the industry.
Tips: I attribute my success to the tolerance and patience I showed during the interview.Whatever they say try not to give up and try to answer their questions in a crisp manner.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: All the candidates who got through the technical round got the jobs.So as you can understand the HR round is "Naam ke vasthe" atleast during my placement.

General Tips: Especially for this company people need not bother about their communication skills. If you just can communicate your ideas in english that's suffice.
Skill Tips: If you aim for Reliance, preparing for GATE really helps you.
Skills: chemical engineering basics, stress handling ability
College Name: IIT MADRAS
Motivation: Wanted to do work in core chemical engineering. And in reliance, since it has the largest petroleum refinery in Asia you will have great learning oppurtunity.
Funny Moments: In my first round of interview, they really tried to stress me out. At one point in the interview they looked as if they were not interested in whatever I say and one of the interviewer tried to show that intent by telling the other interviewer "Yeh kuch bhi boltha hai yaar"(He is bullshitting). But since I knew that I was not bullshitting, I didn't yield to the stress and answered all the questions patiently.
In the HR round, since there was a point about chemistry Olympiad, they asked me a question on chemistry. I didn't really know the answer but I tried to answer it. The interviewer was a chemistry graduate and she got visibly angry at my effort of answering. She yelled at me and created an impression I screwed it up.But at the end she suddenly burst into a laugh and told that I got the job.Happy ending atleast :)

Interview Preparation Tips

Skill Tips: Average academic record (CGPA > 7) will be good. They didn’t look much at extra-academic involvement. Good understanding of concepts of electrical machines and in general, departmental subjects. Projects and internships would be discussed in detail during the interview but only if they are in the areas of electrical machines, power electronics or power systems. The interviewer will then mostly ask questions related to those topics. In my case, the internships were in a totally different field and therefore were not much looked at.
