5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: CGPA criteria
Experience: Students having CGPA more than the average of our Mechanical batch were shortlisted in this round.average of our mechanical batch was 7.67.
Tips: take your semester examinations seriously.atleast try to keep your cgpa more than average of your class.

Round: Test
Experience: there was around total 110 -125 question in this round.around 60-75 question from aptitude ,reasoning and english.and around 50 questions were from technical.we had to solve this within duration of 1 hour 45 minutes.
aptitude was quite easy and in technical, questions were from som,ic,themro,md,materials,fluidmachinary,fm. some questions were theoritical and some were very easy formula based questions.
40 student were shortlisted after this test
Tips: maintain speed throughout the written .dont get stuck on difficult one they are inserted intentionally.have a look at previous year ies and gate questions(theoritical) before written. made easy handbook for mechanical engineering is also quite helpful.
Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes

Round: psychometric test
Experience: this was totally new experience for us people.and this test was also eliminating round.in this test there was not any right option or wrong option for question.this test was meant to check your behaviour & personality trait.and some situational questions were also there.time period was 30 minute .21 student were shortlisted out of 40 after this round.fortunatly i managed to crack this round.
Tips: be honest through out this test.dnt try to give answer ideally.

Round: (Techniacal+HR interview)
Experience: 1)tell us about yourself,summer training and family background.
2)tell us about your Automobile Project(hybrid vehicle challange 16)
3)what are the various types of hybrid vehicles?
4)tell me 5 examples of hybrid vehicles.
5)what was your role in team ?
6)what were design considerations in calculation of suspension?
7)why there is difference between front ride frequency and rear ride frequency?and how much should it be ideally?
8)what is pitching,rolling ,yawing,bounce and jounce.?
9)what are your strengths?
10)which area you need to improve in you and how you are improving it?
11)what do you want to do in your life?
12)why mechanical engineering.?
i was interviewed on 27th december 2016. 6 people including me were selected out of 21.everyone was selected for R&D profile.

Tips: i was interviewed through video conferencing .its difficult to convince HR people on screen .try to be yourself and be clear and one more thing 1st question "tell us about yourself " is going to decide the direction of your interview.try to keep smile upon your face throughout the interview.

Round: Call FOR interview
Experience: Based upon GATE 2015 score they called us for interview in Dehradun.
Interviews were started in June.

Gate score weightage is 60 %
Academic Qualification Weightage 20 % bachelor degree and 5 % higher education.
Interview 15 %
Total 100 %
Tips: They give full 20 % to all ( according to a RTI ) in Academic Qualification
Thus GATE Score is a major punch.
Also interview plays good role for those having average ranks.


Round: Other Interview
Experience: Interview comprises both of HR and Technical Questions.
I answered all questions very quickly, hence they were quite impressed.
I was the last candidate to be interviewed on that day.
I tried to bring happy moments while answering HR questions which made the last moments of my interview light and humurous.
Tips: Answer with confidence and keep a smile on your face.

General Tips: Already mentioned.
Skill Tips: Learn about company details.

Note: " u should have a provisional degree" or "undertaking by college officials mentioning ur passing along with final cgpa mentioned" as lot of candidates were not allowed to give interview without it.

Candidates belonging to Drilling were asked a few questions in current affairs.

Dress properly.

Keep a smile on ur face to show u r enjoying being interviewed

Funny Moments: When they asked me about my strengths I took a little pause before answering so they were like "u r creating ur strengths"

Round: Test
Experience: The test comprised of questions of Aptitude and English. The test was a very basic level test.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: As i entered the interview room, i was asked to answer these three questions in order.
During the interview, most of the questions were related to my project and training and some questions were related to public transport systems and traffic management as all my projects were related to Transportation Engineering.
The interview was very cool. The HR was very friendly. It was more of general kind of discussion. During my interview, Neither once did i feel stressed. The HR's make the interview very comfortable for you.
Tips: 1. Confidence is must. You should be confident in whatever answers you give. They are not looking for very good technical background. they just check how confident you are with your work.
2. Interview can happen in any language. so don't bother even if you are not very good with English.
3. You set the domain of your interview. so first speak about those things which you want to highlight and which provides you a strong background.

General Tips: Be confident during your interview. Always answer Boldly. Don't have fear of English. they recruit to perform technical work and not showcase your communication skills.
Skill Tips: Always be Confident!!
Confidence is the only key.
Also have a thorough knowledge of your training and projects.

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Resume was shortlisted on the basis of pointers.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: They presented our group with a case and asked everyone to justify their stand on it.
Tips: Be clear in your mind why you are choosing a side and give concise and logical reasons behind it.
Try to speak first but only if you are well prepared with your points.
Don't debate.
Duration: 15 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Basic knowledge of my subjects and project helped.
Tips: Be confident.
Prepare 1 or 2 subjects of your choice.


Round: HR Interview
Experience: The interview was very good, answering honestly and justifying myself with logic helped.
Tips: Be calm and confident.
Think before you speak, don't be in too much of a hurry.

General Tips: Prepare for frequently asked questions beforehand.
Be confident and calm, smile often.

Skill Tips: Research the company beforehand and know about it.

Round: Test
Experience: The selection for interview was on the basis of GATE 2015 rank and i had AIR 73 so i easily got in to the interview round and after all that mattered was your rank and knowledge about highway designing.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The people interviewing you are very experienced and you can't bluff them so whatever you speak must be correct
Tips: You should be ready for any type of question related to highway designing as they are the chief authority and the people interviewing you have atleast more or less experience of 30+ years in that field.

Round: Test
Experience: It was fairly easy, if you are a CAT aspirant then its a cake walk for you. But it was simple for many students without CAT background.
Tips: Practice some questions from R.S. Agrawal or other aptitude books.
Duration: 60 minutes minutes
Total Questions: aptitude

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: it was quite an intensive round as the questions were asked at a brisk phase, also it also had some questions of HR too, like why should we hire you, how your are better than your competitors, etc. The interview panel was very experienced and one should also be aware of the work they are going to do there. Overall be honest what you answer.
Tips: If you have good command over the subjects in Computer Science and have done some good projects then your chances are good. Good communication skills are required, so practice on your technical skills.

General Tips: Strong technical skills.
Skill Tips: Just be yourself and try to have sound technical skills.
