Interview Questions

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Level was pretty high in case of Quant. You not only need a lot of practice but also practice of some really good questions.
Other than quant all the other sections are easy and direct.
Duration: 60 minutes
Total Questions: 45

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: They give 10 mins to think about the topic and 20 mins for discussion. Main purpose is to check your communication skills so keep on discussing . Even if you can't think of any new point repeat your points
Duration: 20 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: There were many other questions other than this but what they were emphasizing was whether you have done any practical implementation of IT or the coding skills. Tell them about your projects and how you implemented the coding part. They are much interested in logic than syntax.
Since I'm from ECE these were the main things I talked about.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: It was much of an interactive session. They again asked about projects-nothing technical only some basic idea. Lasted hardly 10 mins.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: In this round they mainly explained the salary structure. This one too was of 10 mins.

General Tips: Even if you don't have excellent coding knowledge do appear for the company. They are not looking for same qualities in each candidate. You should be willing enough to learn.
Skills: Aptitude, Communication Skills, Basic Technical Knowledge-mainly emphasized on the implementation part.
College Name: NIT Bhopal

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Initial shortlisting by ABB for the written test was very strange. They selected top 10 from both ECE and Electrical .But from computer science and Mechanical they selected random guys for written test. I believe there was some middle range of pointers was selected for those 2 branches. There selection procedure was very lengthyInitially there was a written test conducted at our college by their executives. It was completely technical and no aptitude question was asked. So it was different for all branches

Round: Test
Experience: For ECE written consisted of mainly power electronics, Circuit Theory, Digital Electronics and Basics of electrical and Very few questions from communication. There written mainly consisted of the topics of engineering on which they have business verticals. The difficulty level was not much but the topics were very wide spread. To me it felt like that they have almost covered each semester of ECE in their written. For those who are preparing for GATE the written will be like piece of a cake. After the written result was announced on the basis of a national cutoff as they visited all the colleges on the same day. Then the candidates who cleared the written round were asked to report at their Faridabad Premises.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: After 1 week we went to their office. Where first and most difficult round was Technical interview. thorough questions were asked from technical point of view. It was expected as ABB is known as a technical company. The interviewer was showing deep interest in your resume and was scanning it very carefully. For me almost each line of my resume was discussed. Trainings were considered very important by them so there was a lot of questions asked regarding it also. On an average technical round lasted for 1 hour for every candidate. This was most crucial part as those who clear this round were allowed to appear in rest of the rounds till the end. Screening rate for this round was very low.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: After technical interview we had lunch. After lunch HR round started. There was a case study on a business concept which was followed by presentation for the same. For presentation there were no PPTs but a white chart was given along with different colors to each candidate and everyone was asked to do it in a way that they want. This was followed by a HR interview which was almost 1.5 hours for each candidate. All the questions were asked on your personal life and they will cover everything from your girlfriend to your college life. Only tip I can give you on this is be very true as there questions are very well connected.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Final round was a group discussion. In this a random topic was given and we were asked to discuss about it for 45 minutes. The topic for our group was greenhouse effect. Everybody was given equal chance to speak and express himself. After this the feedback was taken and that was the end of interviews after 8 consecutive hours. The thing I noticed is that they really give a lot of importance to both managerial and engineering skills. So its not that you should be very good in both but yeah you should know well.

The case study could be anything from a Credit card company running into losses, calculating Incentive Compensation for Sales representatives etc.

Interview Questions

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: They kept a minimum CGPA criterion of 6.5, which is not hefty at all.

Round: Test
Experience: The written is taken by AMCAT and is really easy, so it is important that you perform exceptionally well to make it into the next shortlist. Also, although the company people don't admit it, I'm sure that there is an upper cut-off, so keep that in mind too.
Tips: Don't worry! It's not that difficult to perform well in the test. Brush up your aptitude a little. Data Interpretation is usually easy. Take help of your MBA aspirant buddies to help you with the preparation.
Total Questions: 60

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: GD is a fish market! Everyone would want to speak, no matter if they really have the points or not. Show some leadership, and keep a calm head, speak when you're absolutely sure of what you're saying.
Tips: GD is supposed to be a very dilute filter. You will definitely make it through unless you perform exceptionally bad.
Duration: 15 minutes

Round: Problem Statement
Experience: The case study is pretty straightforward, and mostly simple math is involved. It would help a great deal if you practice a few case studies prior to this round.
Tips: During the interview, the main focus is not on how correctly you solved the case study, but rather on your approach. So make sure that you take the interviewer through a detailed path of how you approached the case study and reached conclusions.

Round: Behavioural Interview
Experience: In this interview, your entire resume would be scanned and questions and guesstimates would be asked based on that. So make sure that you write only what you know in your resume.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This interview is taken by one of the principals of the company. Now these are people with mounds of experience so don't even try to bluff them! It is a pretty straightforward and cool interview where they'll ask you about your family, hobbies, and other general things.
Tips: It is a myth that the interviewer decides the course of the interview. In fact, that is always in your hands. Focus the interview on your skills and golden areas, and try to avoid speaking about your shortcomings. The interview will automatically flow into that direction.

Skills: Logical Reasoning, Analytical Skills

Interview Questions

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There was no negative marking in test(but our seniors got the paper with negative marking so nothing can be predicted for future) but there was time limit so u have to maintain ur speed, once u move forward for next question u can not go back to previous question so u have to be careful which question u have to skip.questions were not very easy nor they were tough, mathematics questions were from 11 12 class not from the B.Tech course.
Tips: for aptitude questions plz go through all types of patterns(work, wages, profit loss, capital interest, principal interest, average.speed, distance, time ), u can get them in MADE EASY aptitude book, for technical go through all the subjects(machines, power system, analog, digital, instrumentation, networks, control system)because there was atleast one question from each subject although they were easy ,if u r preparing for GATE u just need remember the basic ,the can be solved on finger tips
Duration: 2 HR minutes
Total Questions: 120

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: topic was very easy so everyone was ready with the points, boys were speaking with dominating voice,u have to be very careful to get a chance to speak
Tips: search common GD topics on net and write ur own points for them, go through the GD on net so u can get an idea how to start the topic or else join any of the coaching for GD,dont speak much but when u speak be confident and speak simple language don't use complicated words
Duration: 15 minutes

Round: Other Interview
Experience: they asked me to speak about myself for 5 min they were very cool, they were continuously looking in my CV and questioning about what I have written in it(about my sport, schooling, brother,my family, childhood)for technical they asked me about sensors and as an ee student which instrument I will be using for measuring fuel level in the automobiles, they were very much impressed by my written test (as they said to me,so try to do it well)  they were very much cool and smiling all the time, with their body language I was able to make it out that they will select me
Tips: if u r a girl from non mechanical branch then ur chances of getting selected is quite more as compared with the boys of non mechanical branch(provided u also give them answer for their question confidently with good body language   ) , for boys if u want to clear ur interview prepare thoroughly with ur technical subjects

General Tips: give the written test of consultancy companies so u can have an idea of aptitude questions,if u clear the test of those companies and get selected for GD give 100% in the GD,if u get selected for next round interview and u dont want to join the company say no to them in the interview, but plz if u dont want to join a company just dont leave it because u want to wait for ur dream company ,the above trick will help u to get experience and gain confidence but be careful
Skill Tips: go through the campus placement papers on net
Skills: alertness, speed, acuracy
