Working at SBI provides you ample oppurtunities to operate in multitude scenarios from Retail Branch Banking to SMEs and Commercial & Corporate Banking Fields. Further you have options to move into Treasury, Learning and Development(teaching), Forex or International Banking. In addition to this you can move abroad for working in foreign arms of SBI after clearing some internal exams and interviews. Coming to the Work Life Balance and from my experience shortage of staff is evident. If you are working in Retail Branches you will be expected to Book good Business in all business segments along with Cross Sellings or CVE as it is called in SBI to provide income to bank. Foremost aspect will be the due diligence and monitoring which you need to perform while rendering any type of Banking services to the customers. Work Life Balance in Retail Bank branches is better than most of the private players as per my opinion. On the front of Career Progression, SBI provide i think the fastest Career Progression to managers. Employees who joined as POs after clearing SBI POs exam hardly takes 10-12 years to become Chief Managers. Salary and Emoluments are also best in class in comparison to Private Players. When progressed to higher Level management positions then it lags behind the private players. In the end, I would say SBI is a brand working with which you get a well suited image in society as well as you are respected. Some people in Metro cities often mock SBIans for lunch breaks and not working but mark my words; the level of work a Branch Manager perform in SBI is unmatchable by other competitors Employess/Managers.
