Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Round 1: MCQs: tech + apti

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Round 2: Interviews; (a) Tech (b) HR

General Tips: It was a Good experience! Tech questions asked were not very difficult, nor too easy, exactly how an interview should be. They were chilled out but smart people. They didn't believe in stress interview, etc. but their questions were direct and logical.
Skill Tips: Don't go for books for last minute brush up. First go through the codes, (456,800). Also, for environmental- the lab manual! Books and Shri Hari notes would be too much for last hours, but the lab manuals have all the necessary and important procedures, and also limits of various pollutants/minerals as specified by the codes. Very helpful for last minute work. Sitaram sir's notes for soil mech should be sufficient. All these done, 1st round should be a cakewalk. Also, there is no harm in saying "I don't know", (not for all the questions of course!). Don't try to give round-about or approximate answers in tech interview. That is not appreciated. They don't expect you to know everything they ask. Just be polite and say "I don't know", but mention that you'll make it a point to learn and understand those topics before you join the company. (Limit State Design for SteelStructures is a big example. We're taught Working Stress, which is now obsolete except for bridge design. Just say that you were not taught, and that you'll read it on your own before you join!)

Tips: For getting into Alstom, you need to have good academic performance. Atleast try to be in top 40 of your branch.

Round: Test
Experience: The test was conducted on CoCubes. The Aptitude section included Quantitative ,verbal and LR. Technical section was purely on Btech syllabus.
Tips: You need to have a good command on your aptitude as in the technical section, you'll get random questions from different subjects.
Duration: 1 hour
Total Questions: 60

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: I lead the discussion, conducting it smoothly, I concluded.
Tips: Listen to the instructions carefully and follow them strictly. We were told to interact in a sober way and not to interrupt others. I started the discussion, and waited for everyone to speak before speaking up the second point.
Duration: 15 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The company focused on Design & Development, mainly focused on projects that I have done. I being a part of SAE Collegiate club, have told about my project.Surprisingly, All 45 min - 1 hour of my interview was about this project of mine. Having a good understanding of my project, I nailed the interview!. It was visible clearly on the interviewers face that he was impressed.
I had also managed and lead various activities in my college which further added as an advantage to my presentation.
Tips: When you have some good projects, then that creates a very positive reflection of you. But you should answer each and every question asked to you in the context otherwise it will have a equally bad impact!
I have removed few other projects of mine the previous night. So it's not about the numbers, but about the understanding of the single project in depth.

Round: HR Interview
Tips: Having clarity of thoughts and good knowledge about the company will help you clear this round.
