  • Ans.

The ratio of transformer is the ratio of the number of turns in the primary winding to the number of turns in the secondary winding.

    • The ratio of transformer is also known as turns ratio.

    • It determines how much the voltage is stepped up or down in a transformer.

    • For example, a transformer with a turns ratio of 1:2 will double the voltage from the primary to the secondary winding.

  • Ans.

The value of 11kv DO FUSE rating is typically around 200A to 400A.

    • The value of 11kv DO FUSE rating is usually between 200A to 400A.

    • This rating determines the maximum current that the fuse can safely handle without blowing.

    • It is important to select the correct fuse rating based on the application and load requirements.

Experience: Inconsequential

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: My PI was taken by Dr. Rajamani (he is my HOD now) who is very sound technically and is well known in the electrical field (look him up).

Skill Tips: If you are interested in Reliance Energy, note that Rinfra is currently expanding in a big way in the EPC business (power plants etc), so if you are technically very good and are not planning on PG, then it is a very good option. Not many are given the EPC business work though... so you could be sent to Mumbai discom for doing not so exciting work... my friend who had the same GPA as I had was given complaint management related work, which was less stressful. well he used it well to get his PG done so he came out on top in the end. I am in the EPC business and I am struggling to get my PG on track... so make a wise choice.

Interview Questionnaire

4 Questions

  • Q1. Explain the parameters of transmission line ?
  • Ans.

Parameters of transmission line include resistance, inductance, capacitance, and conductance.

    • Resistance: opposition to the flow of current

    • Inductance: ability to store energy in a magnetic field

    • Capacitance: ability to store energy in an electric field

    • Conductance: ability to conduct electric current

    • Examples: coaxial cable, waveguide, twisted pair cable

  • Q2. What is Hysteresis curve ?
  • Ans.

Hysteresis curve is a graphical representation of the relationship between magnetic field strength and magnetization of a material.

    • It shows the lag between the magnetic field and the magnetization of a material.

    • It is used to study the magnetic properties of materials.

    • It is commonly used in the design of magnetic circuits and devices.

    • Examples include transformer cores, magnetic storage devices, and electric motors.

  • Q3. Why and which type of transformer do we use to reduce power loss during transmission?
  • Ans.

We use step-up transformers to reduce power loss during transmission by increasing voltage and decreasing current.

    • Step-up transformers increase voltage and decrease current, which reduces power loss during transmission.

    • This is because power loss is proportional to the square of the current, so reducing current reduces power loss.

    • For example, power is transmitted over long distances at high voltages (e.g. 500 kV) to red...

  • Q4. Explain Power Factor?
  • Ans.

Power factor is the ratio of real power to apparent power in an AC circuit.

    • Power factor is a measure of how efficiently electrical power is being used.

    • It ranges from 0 to 1, with 1 being the most efficient.

    • A low power factor can result in higher energy costs and equipment damage.

    • Capacitors can be used to improve power factor.

    • Power factor is important in industries where large amounts of electrical power are used.
