Round: Interview
Experience: Round 1: I was asked to list out the factors that make an ecommerce venture successful. This was followed by “Why would ecommerce be successful in India?” . My answers were elaborate and full of facts and data. I listed down the factors and discussed why each one of them was a vital component. Again, this was a two way discussion , with the interviewer giving his inputs wherever required. The interviewer seemed to be impressed and confirmed my selection for the next and final round.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: In this interview they asked me questions about how e-commerce works and how flipkart can strengthen its position in the market. The answers which I gave were very general with common sense coming into play. The interviewee was impressed my answers and selected me for the next round.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The next interview was an HR one and the panel grilled me on my resume. He also asked me questions about my
future goals, my strength and weaknesses etc. I was fully prepared for them and was very confident. Finally they offered me the job. The important point here was that one must be very much sure about the points written on his resume and should be to speak for 1-2 minutes about each sentence if asked for.

General Tips: Learnt from seniors and alumni what companies from different sector (Consulting, finance, core etc) looks for and prepared my resume accordingly. This also helped me to realize that my profile was weak for finance sector which requires a lot of preparation and hence I was less focused on this sector. Next I started preparing for aptitude test and practiced with the Career Launcher CAT test material (any coaching institute material would suffice). Next I started preparing for case studies through various books listed on SPO’s website. With the help of friends/wingmates I practiced different types of case studies in a proper interview like environment. Newspaper (economic times, hindu) reading were also an important part of my preparations, they kept me inform on various issues and they also gave me an idea of facts and figures essential for consulting firms. At the same time I also started preparing for HR interviews. After the results of various companies aptitude test were declared I fine tuned my preparations accordingly.

  • Q1. Basic situations questions like how do you manage people in work space and all?
  • Q2. CV questions may be there
  • Q3. Market size of electronics sold through all e-commerce websites together?
  • Ans.

The market size of electronics sold through all e-commerce websites is difficult to estimate accurately.

    • The market size of electronics sold through e-commerce websites is constantly changing due to the dynamic nature of the industry.

    • Factors such as the popularity of certain products, the emergence of new technologies, and changes in consumer behavior can all impact the market size.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Test was conducted through CoCubes Portal and there was no negative marking. Three sections has 20 questions each and there was no restriction on time for individual sections. I was confident about 50 questions and probably that was close to the cut-off for shortlist.
Tips: The questions are going to be easy. If you have prepared well for the CAT, it's not gonna be tough. Attempt Quantitative Analysis first and proceed with the other sections as per your convenience. There's no negative marking so make sure you attempt all the questions.
Duration: 60 minutes
Total Questions: 60

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: I started the GD, made 2-3 good points and concluded. The GD went ahead in a good direction and that's probably the reason 6-7 people of 10 were selected.
Tips: - Try to be a leader right from the beginning
- Make sure GD doesn't become a fish market else all the group members will end up with nothing
- Read about e-commerce regularly. Be aware of all the developments.
- After you have made your points, give opportunities to others who haven't been able to speak. Helps you a lot.
- Prepare in groups. It was a real game changer for me.
Duration: 15 minutes

Round: Guesstimate Interview
Experience: Didn't do it really well. Was stuck initially but came on the right track by the end.
Tips: This is one part where you need preparation. You MUST have an idea as to how to approach these type of questions. A cliche but yeah, answer isn't important, approach is. Ask your friends in IITs regarding books, especially from IIT B. Group studies help, believe it or not.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: My answers were a little short and I think I could have done better there.
Tips: Take your time to think. Think of the most practical answer as in what you really would have done had you been in that situation. Explain why did you do so. Out of the box suggestions may work but they have their own risks. Use them if you're confidant.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Flipkart had three profiles operations, analytics and coding. After the first shortlisting, they organized GD in the groups of ten. Moderator asked the candidates to speak one at a time. Finally 36 candidates were shortlisted for the interview.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The interviews were held based on the profile we chose and we were asked questions accordingly.

General Tips: 1. I was inclined in clearing CAT from my second year onwards.
2. I did a summer project in the second year and simultaneously joined Career Launcher.
3. I didn’t prepared much for the placements and was only focussed on CAT preparations during the seventh semester.
4. I did not give as much time in resume building as given by mates since I knew that I have nothing to mention about except my CPI.
5. CAT preparations helped me strengthen my aptitude and quant skills.
6. I was able to clear the tests of various companies just with my CAT knowledge.
7. I practised maths for entire month and was pretty confident in English and a week before the main exam, I did one or two mock papers daily.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: 200 people sat for the aptitude test, which was conducted after CGPA based shortlisting for people who had submitted CVs.
Tips: Presence of mind, decent communication skills, creativity are at most required. It’s a long test, and each section has a separate cutoff. Manage your time well.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: An interactively moderated GD Session on a general topic (We had ‘’Buy one get one free’’, ‘’I’’ and so on). Two people were chosen by the mod to conclude at the end.
Tips: Take initiative, and make sense when you speak. Don’t meander on be concise and choose your words wisely. A great way to get noticed in this round is to make NEW points, points which give a new direction to the discussion. Only acting as a moderator may not be the best idea. Bring new points to the table. Don’t be intimidated by others at the table. Don’t be loud and incoherent. Be courteous to the others. Remember that the aim is to contribute to a fruitful discussion, and not to debunk points put forward by the other guys.

Round: Interview
Tips: Be thorough with your CV, and be ready to defend against doubts raised about what you’ve written. You should have a basic idea about the company - you will be asked questions about the industry in general and Flipkart specifically.

Round: Interview
Tips: Be honest (atleast seem honest!) and be prepared for general HR questions. Don’t frame your CV in a way that shows that you might be aiming for an MBA (like mentioning a high GMAT score) or an MS/Ph.D (overloading with research projects and the like).

General Tips: Be prepared with some solid research on this growing company (atleast I hope it keeps growing by the time you’re reading this!), and some basic HR questions/puzzles. Know your CV well, and appear confident and relaxed (pretty general funda I know but don’t get stressed). There’s nothing very specific you can do to prepare, so just give it your best shot as yourself. All the best!
Skill Tips: CGPA was an initial cutoff. 7.75+ should be peace. Yes, extra-acads are definitely looked at. Be sure to list out your achievements when you mention a particular position/activity. Aptitude test requires basic CAT skills. No coding skills required for the Management Trainee profile. Decent internships will definitely help your case. You are asked questions on what your work was during the internships and how you achieved goals.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Type of questions and details: Normal aptitude questions. Usually cutoff goes around 50, so you can estimate that it is about speed and not your intelligence.
Duration: 60 minutes
Total Questions: 60

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: For group discussion they’ll ask recent topics, so a general knowledge of what’s happening and your ability to speak will take you through. There were 8 of us.
Tips: 1. Use moments of pause to deliver your ideas
2. It’s good to start the discussion and frame it, but it is not essential
3. Always put points, Flipkart doesn’t asks random topics so speaking absurd ideas will not be beneficial for you.
4. Always take note of what others are telling, they’ll ask you to conclude
5. If you’ll enter in an arguments, you are out of the discussion
6. Keep your nerves under control and deliver what you got
Duration: 30-60 minutes

Round: HR Interview
Experience: It was a Skype interview.
Tips: What went well for me was that I made some really good suggestions regarding the company like:
1. They should have live chat support
2. Option to try 2 items before buying 1 of them (in clothes and footwear)
3. No. of warehouses should be increased to assure faster delivery

General Tips: Read newspapers regularly (it really helps)
1. Don’t get into an argument in GD
2. Always speak points (casts good impression)
3. Speed is essential to qualify the test
4. Don’t panic and keep you nerves under control
5. In Case studies don’t jump to a conclusion immediately (ask them for
more and more information until you see you have considered all the
factors, then conclude)
6. Solve as many puzzles as possible so that the one you get in interview, you’ve solved already.
Skill Tips: Some MBA courses which have case studies might help. Doing probability and statistics is strongly recommended.

  • Q1. What would you suggest Kishore Biyani against us (Flipkart) to stay in competition?
  • Ans.

  • Ans.

The demand for TVs next year is uncertain. A good approach would be to conduct market research and analyze trends, while a bad approach would be to rely solely on intuition.

    • Good approach: Conduct market research to understand consumer preferences and trends

    • Good approach: Analyze past sales data and industry forecasts to predict demand

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Each and every one was given sufficient time to express their opinions but since there are more than 100 guys you are competing with, do try to make an impression somewhere on the mind of the recruiter.
Tips: Nothing specifically, similar to the cliche GDs that all the other firms take but the only point to be kept in mind in case of Flipkart is, from the list of 120 odd people it is gonna come down to 50. So, try to keep that in mind.
Duration: 15-20 minutes

Round: Guesstimate Interview
Experience: It was pretty chilled out, since they will try to help you all along. Difficulty level was okayish, nothing to be afraid of. Slight CV grilling and basic HR questions too were covered in this round. No monsters there.
Tips: Make use of the paper they give you. try to be as graphically illustrative as possible. Think out loud. Make them move along with you, hence if you get stuck up they will be able to help you instantly, saving you some time. Also, this will keep them involved and interested in you.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: I took a moment to jot down some points, no one in the the panel seemed to complain(I guess :P). I suggest 5-6 possible strategies and elaborated specifically. Not much counter questioning( Maybe they liked the answer or maybe the question was a meager formality :P)
Tips: Again, nothing to be afraid of. Not the consultancy type cases where framework building and segmentation is necessary. Here they will try to judge your business acumen rather than your 'Case In Point' MuggPower.

Skill Tips: "Keep yourself updated. If you are reading ET regularly and have a fair idea about the case analysis strategies, it will be walk through the cake."
Skills: Communication Skills, Business Sense
