Interview Preparation Tips

Interview preparation tips for other job seekers - Shell doesn't offer you career.

It's a 3 year contract which doesn't necessarily mean you will be getting another role after 3 years. It's another struggle to get another role after 3 years.

A lot of lobbying occurs in new role application process. A lot of rossy rossy scenarios are shown. A lot of expenditure is made for employees but all such expenditures are to distract the employees from the reality that their careers are not safe while working with Shell.

Also company operations in India are not profitable. It's literally bleeding money. And new global management is driven by profitability. There is no stability in the mind of global management. They undermine the potential of Indian market. Just because business has not reached the break even sales , it will no longer be able to make profitability targets but global management are reluctant to invest more money to bear losses till break even point. Speaks about entrepreneurship decision woes in the organization.

Worst company to work for.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Online Aptitude test. I attempted the verbal section firstly, since I was more confident on that part. After I was done with it, I opted for the questions of my domain and lastly the quant. Speed and accuracy were the deciding factors in that test.
Duration: 45 minutes
Total Questions: 45

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: I had chosen to speak for the Sales and I was the first one to counter the person who spoke for R&D. Key was to let other's speak, listen carefully to your counterparts and have a positive body language throughout to make the moderator feel that you are very much a team person as well as you've your own standpoint.
Duration: 20 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Technical interview was conducted face to face with 2 interviewers.
Tips: Accept what you don't know but steer the interviewers to your strong points. You have to be clear on your favorite subjects or on the previous internships or trainings done. The person sitting opposite to you will try to puzzle you on your own answers. Try to be very clear on what you say.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: HR interview was over phone call. What I felt as to crack a interview, you don't have to be too clever.
Tips: Don't panic and keep your mind free of any expectations beforehand. That's all about my personal experience. :)

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There were totally 8 sections to the test. But they could be broadly put under 4 categories. Firstly all questions were compulsory to attempt and there was no negative marking. Aptitude: Basic quantitative math questions were asked. There was one simple programming question where one could code in C/Java in your local IDE and upload the code file. It was a DO or DIE question, either you get the question and proceed to the next questions of the test or the test gets stopped if the code is not successfully compiled within 5 attempts. This programming question, as was told was an important criteria to filter out candidates for the next round. There was a descriptive question asking about a recent team project done.
Tips: Achievements in sports and other extra curricular activities are valued. Mention them in the resume, if applicable.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: In this round, they look for the candidate's experience in coding in whatever language mentioned in the resume - I was asked to write some simple codes in c. I was also asked to explain some projects from the resume.
Tips: basic knowledge of data structures, resume preparation

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: In this round, the questions were mostly based on the resume and the projects done. Also, HR questions like What do you know about Schlumberger, How do you perform in a team, What makes you unique from the other candidates etc. were asked. They also ask if you have any questions from your side - Better to ask questions if you have one or if you can't think upon any specific question, ask them a doubt from whatever they have said(usually they say a lot about their company and principles before they ask you for questions)
