Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I took help from my friends to prepare my resume. Also inputs from my seniors were very fruitful. Yes, I attended all the Pre-Placement talks. I think these PPT’s are very important as they give the insight of the company and help you set your priorities.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The selection procedure for P&G includes one written test and then 2 rounds of HR interviews. After the test around 40 candidates were shortlisted and at the end 6 were made final offers. Walk us through the GDs/Interviews of this company. The questions that you were asked and other details that you may remember would be of great help. (You may not write the answers you gave). Questions asked in the Interviews
• Tell me about yourself, your family background.
• Describe a time when you were leading and influencing the direction of a project or task to deliver significant
results
• Describe a situation when you faced a difficult problem and you were able to solve it.( details of the context, the
action you took and the results that were achieved)
• Provide an example when you approached your work with a mindset of having limited resources or time. ( details
of the context, the action you took and the results that were achieved)
• Describe a situation when you changed your decision after being influenced by others.
• Describe any innovative idea given by you and to what extent has it been implemented.
• Do you have any teaching experience, if yes then describe it.
• Describe a situation where you have carry forwarded the work of your predecessor and to what extent have you
been successful in completing it.

General Tips: First and foremost go through the site of the company. One should prepare thoroughly the for the HR interview. Also one should be consistent right from the beginning of the Selection procedure of the i.e written test, questionnaire and both round of interviews

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: Shortlist was based on the test performance (CAT based) and resume. Round 1: Two interviews (back to back). The first interviewer gave me a puzzle on probability. I tried my hand for 15 mins but couldn’t figure out. That was the whole interview (I later figured out that the puzzle involved probability distribution functions!). The second interview was a puzzle + HR interview. I was grilled upon some points from my CV and was tested upon my team gelling skills. A case(topic) “Should India go for nuclear energy” was discussed.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Round 2: Two interviews (back to back). Both the interviews were aimed at testing analytical skills though puzzles (most of the puzzles were repeated, it’s a better idea to be honest). A few HR questions on the basis of feedback from previous interviews were asked
Tips: The interviewer was quite impressed by my analytical skills but he doubted my skills to work in a team. The mistake I committed was not able to portray my thoughts clearly.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The process of selection included a written aptitude test (DI based), followed by an online psychometric test.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: There were 2 case interviews and a HR interview Interview 1: Case Study on home loans. I was asked to consider all the sources of revenue and expenses of a firm involved in home loans. The second part involved calculating the default rate the firm can afford. The interviewer was quite helpful and gave me hints by saying ‘are u sure?’, ‘u can look at the calculations again, the numbers seem too out of the way.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Interview 2: HR. The interviewer had a collection of the answers of the online psychometric test of every candidate. Situational cases based on the replies were constructed and grilled upon. A few general questions “Why CapOne?” etc were also asked

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: Interview 3: Case Interview, The first 2 interviews were absolute crack so I was immediately called for the third and final interview. It was a case on Pizza (the second favorite topic of CapOne). I was asked to analyze a scheme in which Pizza Hut is considering the option of giving 30% discount to customers to which it is unable to deliver in time (30 minutes) instead of the free pizza (100% discount) option. The revenues and market size in both cases was calculated. The profits for both cases and break even point was calculated (on the basis of the no of customers that the firm can afford to lose to have the same overall profit in the second case.) The interviewer was looking for the term ‘profitability’ to explain the results obtained through calculations. That was a take away. After the interview, the interviewer (who was an IIMA alumni) discussed (for 15 mins) the scheduling process of the placement cell and suggested the dream job funda as is followed in IIMs.

General Tips: The first 2 interviews went amazing. The key idea being good practice and following case study tips (think
aloud, organize your thoughts properly etc.). I messed up the last part of the second case interview and that made the difference, I kept revolving round the point and confused the interviewer. Prepare well, don’t get over confident. The process of resume short listing might sound weird to a few, but one should never compare himself to others. Don’t stress yourself too hard, don’t get disheartened. Reach the venue at least 15-20 mins before the interview. Ensure that your formals, shoes, copies of CV etc. are in place a day before the interview. And most importantly stay cool headed!

1 Interview Round

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The short list for the interview bas based entirely on the test performance (included questions on quant, DI, finance and market awareness as well). The first interview was focused on general HR and resume based questions. Interest in finance was looked for. The second interview was with the CEO, GMC. The interview was moreover an interactive talk. A typical question I remember is “How do you spend your Sundays?”

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: The key to resume preparation is by highlighting what you have done in various areas YOU have worked in (rather than what the project/ position was). If you are writing about a project, you need to emphasize upon the work that you did in that project. The results need to be emphasized upon. Use of strong words like ‘studied’, ‘analyzed’ creates good impact. While mentioning about your positions of responsibility you need to portray your skill set that was developed and the value addition the position gave to you. Numbers if available should be used and points should be crisp and concise. A resume gives an interviewee the direction, stress more on the topics you on which you want your interview to be focused upon. Apart from the resume writing workshop by McKinsey, I showed my resume to a lot of people who gave their inputs and helped me improve upon the content. I attended most of the PPTs. PPTs are eye-openers, they give a very good picture of the company. PPTs were usually good and worth attending. After 50 PPTs one hardly remembers what was told in which PPT, so it is advisable to take notes during a PPT (which most students don’t do). This helps a lot during interview preparation .I spoke to a few seniors and collected their job XPs. This was helpful in letting me decide which job I want to go in.

Round: Group Activity
Experience: Pru was a day 7 company, the first round was resume based short listing (40 out of 385 were short listed). The next round was GDs. 2 each were selected from 4 GDs (group of 10 in each GD). Of the 8 people interviewed, 2 were made final offers. There was only one interview which lasted for 15 minutes.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: The GD topic was ‘Vegetarian is a crap’. The GD tested basic GD skills, of communication and working in a group. Noting down points helped in summarizing. I avoided the usual donts of posture and eye-contact with the panel. Everyone was asked to summarise at the end (not a conclusion), the key being discussing even the irrelevant points as well and not adding your own view points that were never discussed during the GD!

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The interview was the most weird of interviews. The panel was being extra informal. It started with ‘what are you doing here at this point of time? Why don’t you enjoy your time elsewhere in the campus?’ The other typical questions being ‘It’s a hectic job to shortlist 40 people from 300 odd CVs, how would you do that if you would have been in our position? Lets try something different, lets all stand and have the interview’. This was followed by a few HR questions, strengths, weaknesses (they asked me to quote an incident on some strength). Then came a small case study to estimate the no of pianos in Bombay. They wanted all the different approaches possible. I could cite 3 different approaches for the same and that was more than expected. The interview ended with a few questions from my side.

General Tips: Stay cool headed! That’s the first key for a Pru interview (for any interview for that matter of fact). The key to crack the GD is avoid the usual donts. Practice a few cases and guesstimates apart from typical HR questions. Always prepare a few questions that you want to ask the company people, that shows your interest in the company. Be confident

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I listed down my achievements and key projects undertaken and then prioritized them in order of importance. I read the Be prepared material of batch 2006 and also saw a few resumes of senior students to understand the structure of an ideal resume. I attended pre-placement talks. I got a brief idea of the various profiles the companies offered and the basic knowledge about the companies. I did not talk to anyone about choosing between jobs/companies but was clear of my priorities. I was most inclined towards joining a finance firm, then a core and the least towards a software

Round: Test
Experience: At first stage they conducted a 3 minute test. It checked your calculation speed. 85 people were selected for the 2nd
stage. In 2nd stage they conducted a one hour aptitude test. 33 people were selected for the 3rd stage.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: At 3rd stage a half an hour interview was taken of each candidate. 11 people were selected for the fourth stage. At fourth stage again a 25 minutes interview was taken. Finally 3 people were made final offers. In the first interview I was first asked about the academic projects that I had undertaken. Since I had written about a project Related to foreign exchange I was asked about every minute detail in it and some general economic basics like impact of inflation on interest rates etc. Then I was asked some HR questions such as: Why would you join a finance firm inspite of having a technical background? What do you know about our company? what are your strengths? Then I was given a case study to estimate the number of black cars in Calcutta. If someone wants to appear for this company, what all should he/she ideally prepare? He/she should build his aptitude and good calculation skills. He/she should also be clear about what the company is all about. He/she should be clear about every point written in his/her resume

General Tips: One must be in an impressive formal attire but also comfortable. In spite of the nervousness inside one must keep calm which ultimately will keep your performance at its peak as excessive zeal may lead one into wrong direction.
Skill Tips: -I was a regular reader of editorials of newspapers like The Hindu, Hindustan Times, Times of India.
I prepared for the CAT exam which was of great use to me in clearing the aptitude tests of various companies. I read the Beprepared material of batch 2006 which helped me to prepare and have the right mindset required for an interview. For test preparation I think practicing the CAT exam based questions individually is of great help to build one’s aptitude for the tests. For GD, preparation in groups with a variety of topics is of great help. For interviews too preparation in groups for different types of HR questions makes one keep a track of how clear his viewpoints are and the regular inputs or feedback from other members improves one’s ability to perform well in an interview.

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Help from seniors' resumes. Templates searched on google. Pre-Placement Talks help in knowing about the company, the job profile, the work culture and one can decide depending upon one's interests whether one wants to join that company or not.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: For puzzles : www.techinterview.org

Round: HR Interview
Experience: They asked me about how serious I was regarding joining the company. They asked me if I had given GRE and whether I was apping in parallel. I was honest and told them that I was. Honesty pays. They asked me if I know anything about the company. Frankly, the only thing I knew then was the job profile and the fact that I can do it and enjoy it. Here too I was honest. Then they asked me to summarize the interview that I just gave in 1 sentence. The key here is to stay positive. Even if something doesn't seem to be going in your favor, try to take it on a positive note.
Tips: Your tech fundaes should be clear (especially for the fixed income group). For HR, atleast, read the company's website

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: General fundae regarding technology in computers. They asked me to describe my internship project at Webaroo. They asked me alternative / better ways to do some of the things that I was describing. They also asked me questions related to concepts in Java like Class-loading etc.

Skill Tips: Dress smart. Keep your clothes ironed and shoes polished the day before itself. Do not be rude to the interviewers. Keep a positive energy

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I looked at the various resumes of our seniors and I liked a particular one used by my senior. I just made all my resume point wise. I had made it a point to know all my resume points to elaborate well on any topic. I had 2 resumes. One of them was for non technical jobs like schisms and other wise was for managerial and financial jobs. Since I had a low cpi, I dint target the technical jobs. I read a lot from the newspaper and magazines. I also used to read about the markets and economy to increase my general awareness. It really gives you a lot of confidence to know about the political and other situation, just in case those topics come into picture.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: I was asked to do 2 case studies related to real estate. All I did was think logically and proceed. Also I gave a lot of attention to their comments and tried to incorporate her suggestion. This way I not only corrected myself, I also left an impression of thinking at the moment. I also defied some of the suggestions given to me by them but not without giving reasons. This I did to suggest that though I was ready to listen to them , I would not do something without logic. I think talking logically and cheerfully makes them quiet happy.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: I was a lucky person to be selected in my first interview and also I had just 1 and a half day to do that. But for whatever time I had I read a lot about the company and the divison I would be working with. I had missed its ppt but hearing that also helps you. I had prepared for the many general questions of hr like, ell me about Yourself, your interest or your passion. They might ask u about your role model and your future goals. You should cover those areas well but should not say anything without a thought. I did not prepare in a group but it was a nice thing to prepare yourself alone or with someone and then have your friend interview you.

Skill Tips: Ya they should know about the working of the company. Secondly they should know about the work that is expected from them and should try to show those qualities through their answers and their thinking. A really good explanation to show an interest in their job can also help them. I don't know much on this front because I dint got interviewed in any other company.
