Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Went through lots of resume and started working on resume early (Aug). Looked in lots of international formats and style. Don't write too much in Resume.. just put the necessary and impactful information. Try to edit ur resume again and again .. I had took help from my friends who are currently working in corporate.

Round: Test
Experience: Their were three round in Tata Motors 1. Test, 2. Technical Interview, 3.HR Interview.   As for metallurgy, they dint bring any specific test. We appeared in Mechanical background test. It consist of three section..technical, apti and English .. try to solve as many question as possible ;. And it is not a bad idea to make guess; They shortlist candidate on basis of resume and test... if a person have work experience or internship in good company then it will be a added advantage;.. they generally stress on work ex..   They have stringent criteria for + 60% from 10th& And no backlock;   In first round they selected 30 students from about 80  and in second round they selected 9 from 30 .. as time was main constrain they dint called us for HR.. so finally 9 got final offer..

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: No GD in Tata motor.. only direct interview some of the interview question was. Introduce yourself then talk abut internship and project  Asked me how my project is related to automobile industries and asked some examples (funda maro..)then they asked me what are the favorites subject and area.. why this company.. whats your future plans, they were continuously asking abut Ph.D plans or MBA  what do u know abut this company(to prepare for this kind of question it is better to get idea abut the company from website..) asked some technical question regarding stress, stain  ceramics, composites and polymer  interview lasted for about 35/40 min  be relax. Panel was very cooperative..   Before the selection process begins .. they ask us to fill a company form .be very cautious while filling it they asked 3-4 detail question..like why this company.. career dream.. and so on. They used to ask this question in interview .. so be prepared for  If someone wants to appear for this com

General Tips: If you have good credentials and nicely written resume then most probably they will shortlist you.. and try to perform good in written test. Get some basic idea in your field and prepare HR question well. And be confidant!!!!

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I prepared my resume on what little things I had done in IIT. Though I wrote all I had done in sports before IIT. I wrote my projects well which got me into a techno management job. I did not write anything false. From friends experiences, I would advice people to do the same. Interviewers see through something that is not genuine.

Round: Test
Experience: There were 4 levels . First 2 were tests. Then a 1 to 1 ½ hrs long tech interview. Then a HR interview of ½ hrs. Some 40 odd sat for the first test and some 20 were selected for the second test. After the second test 8 were selected.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: 4 were selected after the technical interview. 3 ppl were made final offers after the last interview. The technical interview was tough. I was asked basic questions from all the four streams of aerospace engineering (propulsion, structures, aerodynamics and dynamics and control). One or two questions about the first three streams were asked. Then the last stream being my specialization I was asked questions in depth of the field. He also asked me how I keep track of recent happenings in aerospace field. (Was asked the reason for the failure of Columbia). The HR interview was kind of a stress interview. I was tested on my passion for working in aerospace field. The basic HR questions too were asked.
Tips: They ask too many question from core. So if you are not interested please do not appear.

General Tips: Overall, any particular mistake that you committed during the whole process?   None. But yes do prepare for tests better if u have low CPI.  Be comfortably dressed (in formals obs.) and do not use much hand movements during the interview.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Aptitude and interview. After test around 60 were shortlisted and of them around 35 were made final offers .
Tips: I had joined TIME classes for preparation of CAT and the guidance and study material provided by them was really good for preparing for the aptitude. After the CAT, TIME held mock GD sessions which were really great and in my opinion everyone should go through these kinds of mock GDs before any actual GD to get an exposure to GD and various kinds of GD topics.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: To start with, the interviewer asked me to introduce myself and then they asked questions based on the projects in my resume after these questions they asked me that you are a good civil engineer then why do you want to change your field and come to IT. Some questions based on object oriented programming were asked to test the computer knowledge and they asked me to solve a puzzle also that I don't find worth mentioning here as I think most of us can solve that. Overall the experience of my first job interview was good and I really enjoyed it.

General Tips: Good aptitude and analytical skills and basic knowledge of computer.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Firstly, I sat down and prepared an excel sheet of possible resume points and listed the qualities, strengths and weaknesses (if any) reflected by them. Then started writing the resume so as to highlight the ones I want to stress upon. A large help at this time was the MIT workbook available on the net. In addition, I got it reviewed from seniors and batchmates to see if possible changes can be made. I made 2 resumes, one for consulting/ FMCG companies and the other for analytics firms. Yes, I attended PPT's of most companies I was interested in. PPT's are a nice way of taking cues as to what kind of people the company is looking for and the kind of people working there. At times, they also help differentiate between companies of the same domain and to see which one suits you best. I mostly talked to seniors and batchmates working in the companies I was applying to about choosing jobs.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: MIT workbook, a list of HR questions called HLPQ, Be Prepared. First I was given a HR case about what I would do incase someone in my team lead to the failure to achieve a task. After that I was asked to find out the reason why a retail coffee chain is losing profitability. Since I had prepared cases for Cap One, I found the case simple. Judging by the amount of information I was being given, I got the feeling he was just looking at how I went about looking at various facets of the problem rather than solving it. He seemed satisfied with my questions. After that I was asked some basic HR and resume questions. I was also asked a puzzle (the one with 3 doors where you are asked whether you should change your decision.)

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: For puzzles, I mostly did those on techinterview.com. Ditto with puzzles, its important to give it multiple tries rather than looking at the solution. This interview just had one puzzle on basic probability. I was explained the perils of feigning ignorance if I knew the puzzle. I had not heard it and said so confidently. I think the key in such a situation is to be truthful and say that you have heard the puzzle if that is the case. In addition, writing down the equations and thinking loud is a must. Although I made a few mistakes, I was able to rectify the same with some prodding from the interviewer.I was then asked a few questions on Genetic algorithms since I had done my seminar on the same, This interview has 2 puzzles. One very simple one of time and work. The other was one framing a linear programming problem which I could not solve. Then I was asked some HR questions like Why Inductis, Why not CAT, Would you say that you are a team player and Describe an instance where you lead a team to accomplish a task.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: For case interviews, groups are the way to go, and the focus should be on doing the case rather than reading it

Round: Test
Experience: Inductis had a written test after which around 40 people were shortlisted. Atter 2 rounds of interviews a list of 15 was released.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: This interview was with the India head who had given the PPT. We had to go over 4-5 puzzles since each time I said that I had heard the same. Then I was asked to solve the last one even though I had heard it. It was one of the techinterview.org puzzles on 100 people and sharing of bounty. I was able to solve the same. Then I was asked questions about my strengths, weaknesses and also what my friends would say about me. On the whole I think except for the third interview I did a good job and thought I would make it through. I liked the interview process a lot especially the fact that everyone had to meet all the 4 people. As luck would have it I made it through, finishing the ordeal of wearing formal clothes and making rounds of the placement office.
Tips: Puzzles, Puzzles and more puzzles. Some basic case studies and probability. Mostly, CAT preparation and a good maths background should suffice. For HR, preparing questions from HLPQ and Be prepared should be enough.

General Tips: Key Learning from these experiences was that only if you are cool and confident will you make it through. Also, making ahabit of thinking loud and writing down approach to cases/puzzles is very important.I think pre placement preparation helps a lot. I should have concentrated on cases and puzzles a bit more. In addition, Ishould have thought about what profile suited me best beforehand. As it happened I almost made it to a job which I wasnot sure I wanted since I was shortlisted in another company. As it turned out, I did not make it to both. I believe beingunsure about whether I wanted that job affected my performance
