Your seniors at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai helped you with their notes. Now they're helping you with their placement interview questions. 🙏
Round: Test Experience: Aptitude and interview. After test around 60 were shortlisted and of them around 35 were made final offers . Tips: I had joined TIME classes for preparation of CAT and the guidance and study material provided by them was really good for preparing for the aptitude. After the CAT, TIME held mock GD sessions which were really great and in my opinion everyone should go through these kinds of mock GDs before any actual GD to get an exposure to GD and various kinds of GD topics.
Round: HR Interview Experience: To start with, the interviewer asked me to introduce myself and then they asked questions based on the projects in my resume after these questions they asked me that you are a good civil engineer then why do you want to change your field and come to IT. Some questions based on object oriented programming were asked to test the computer knowledge and they asked me to solve a puzzle also that I don't find worth mentioning here as I think most of us can solve that. Overall the experience of my first job interview was good and I really enjoyed it.
General Tips: Good aptitude and analytical skills and basic knowledge of computer. College Name: IIT BOMBAY
Round: Resume Shortlist Experience: With the help of seniors and friends
Round: Group Discussion Experience: GD and Interview. In GD 5 per got selected after GD and 13 persons were interviewed after 3 GDs. Seven were made final offers. The GD topic was An MBA degree is not necessary in business.
Round: HR Interview Experience: The interview started with the question tell me about yourself and your family background. After that they came to my resume and asked about my seminar and some other course projects and they asked me some general Civil Engineering questions like what is a benchmark and how to test a brick in the field and what are the effects of a porous brick.
General Tips: Good communication skills and a good knowledge of your field. Be confident College Name: IIT BOMBAY
Round: Resume Shortlist Experience: With help from seniors resumes. I did not attend PPTs. I didn't think too much about the job, since it was a backup option for me.
Round: HR Interview Experience: The McKinsey website. Individually, though I suppose preparing in groups will be better. Written test, follo wed by interviews of the shortlisted people. 12-13 poeople were recruited finally.
Skill Tips: A senior told me this, and it actually worked.. when you're done with the interview, a simple Thank You, have a nice day goes a long way. College Name: IIT BOMBAY
Round: Resume Shortlist Experience: Mc Kinsey workshop was a little helpful. Tips: Better read the website of the company for 30-40 mins before the interview instead of attending the the ppt of a company that you don't even know is going to shortlist you or not.
Round: Other Interview Experience: Written test -----------------------------------------------------? interviews (2)
50 ppl than 25 and 12 final offers
Why not others in this field?

Puzzles and guesstimates
If someone wants to appear for this company, what all should he/she ideally prepare?
Round: Resume Shortlist Experience: Firstly, I sat down and prepared an excel sheet of possible resume points and listed the qualities, strengths and weaknesses (if any) reflected by them. Then started writing the resume so as to highlight the ones I want to stress upon. A large help at this time was the MIT workbook available on the net. In addition, I got it reviewed from seniors and batchmates to see if possible changes can be made. I made 2 resumes, one for consulting/ FMCG companies and the other for analytics firms. Yes, I attended PPT's of most companies I was interested in. PPT's are a nice way of taking cues as to what kind of people the company is looking for and the kind of people working there. At times, they also help differentiate between companies of the same domain and to see which one suits you best. I mostly talked to seniors and batchmates working in the companies I was applying to about choosing jobs.
Round: HR Interview Experience: MIT workbook, a list of HR questions called HLPQ, Be Prepared. First I was given a HR case about what I would do incase someone in my team lead to the failure to achieve a task. After that I was asked to find out the reason why a retail coffee chain is losing profitability. Since I had prepared cases for Cap One, I found the case simple. Judging by the amount of information I was being given, I got the feeling he was just looking at how I went about looking at various facets of the problem rather than solving it. He seemed satisfied with my questions. After that I was asked some basic HR and resume questions. I was also asked a puzzle (the one with 3 doors where you are asked whether you should change your decision.)
Round: Puzzle Interview Experience: For puzzles, I mostly did those on techinterview.com. Ditto with puzzles, its important to give it multiple tries rather than looking at the solution. This interview just had one puzzle on basic probability. I was explained the perils of feigning ignorance if I knew the puzzle. I had not heard it and said so confidently. I think the key in such a situation is to be truthful and say that you have heard the puzzle if that is the case. In addition, writing down the equations and thinking loud is a must. Although I made a few mistakes, I was able to rectify the same with some prodding from the interviewer.I was then asked a few questions on Genetic algorithms since I had done my seminar on the same, This interview has 2 puzzles. One very simple one of time and work. The other was one framing a linear programming problem which I could not solve. Then I was asked some HR questions like Why Inductis, Why not CAT, Would you say that you are a team player and Describe an instance where you lead a team to accomplish a task.
Round: Case Study Interview Experience: For case interviews, groups are the way to go, and the focus should be on doing the case rather than reading it
Round: Test Experience: Inductis had a written test after which around 40 people were shortlisted. Atter 2 rounds of interviews a list of 15 was released.
Round: Puzzle Interview Experience: This interview was with the India head who had given the PPT. We had to go over 4-5 puzzles since each time I said that I had heard the same. Then I was asked to solve the last one even though I had heard it. It was one of the techinterview.org puzzles on 100 people and sharing of bounty. I was able to solve the same. Then I was asked questions about my strengths, weaknesses and also what my friends would say about me. On the whole I think except for the third interview I did a good job and thought I would make it through. I liked the interview process a lot especially the fact that everyone had to meet all the 4 people. As luck would have it I made it through, finishing the ordeal of wearing formal clothes and making rounds of the placement office. Tips: Puzzles, Puzzles and more puzzles. Some basic case studies and probability. Mostly, CAT preparation and a good maths background should suffice. For HR, preparing questions from HLPQ and Be prepared should be enough.
General Tips: Key Learning from these experiences was that only if you are cool and confident will you make it through. Also, making ahabit of thinking loud and writing down approach to cases/puzzles is very important.I think pre placement preparation helps a lot. I should have concentrated on cases and puzzles a bit more. In addition, Ishould have thought about what profile suited me best beforehand. As it happened I almost made it to a job which I wasnot sure I wanted since I was shortlisted in another company. As it turned out, I did not make it to both. I believe beingunsure about whether I wanted that job affected my performance College Name: IIT BOMBAY

Round: Resume Shortlist Experience: Pre-Placement talks - Yes & it helped me a lot in deciding the field in which I want to make my carrier.
Round: Group Discussion Experience: First there was a GD, among 35 people, from whom they choose 8 people for PI. We were 5 people in my group for GD. They left us to decide the topic for GD. We have to decide the topic in 2 minutes. The next 10 minutes was for actual GD & finally last 3 minutes to write the minutes of our GD on a paper.
Round: Other Interview Experience: Then there was first round of PI, from which they finalized 5 people. Then there was telephonic interview (only for two students, including me), but they were not satisfied by it so they went for 2nd round of PI. They gave final offers to only 2 people, including me.
Skill Tips: Don't forget to bring your eyes, ears & mouth to GD/PI. Eyes, to see other person/interviewer in the eye. Ears, to listen what the other person is saying & mouth to speak what you think is the best reply. College Name: IIT BOMBAY

Round: Resume Shortlist Experience: I went to the resume writing workshop of Mckinsey. Got some useful tips from there. Referred to the resumes of few seniors. Also it's a good point to show the resume to some good seniors after having finalized it.
Round: HR Interview Experience: Prepared sample answers for the typical HR questions. I was asked a situation where I had to take some instantaneous decision on the spot. Was then asked a situation where I had to plan my work. Was then asked why Capone.
Round: Puzzle Interview Experience: Many companies ask puzzles, etc in the interviews so its always a good idea to try them before hand. Many good sites are available on googling for interview puzzles.
Round: Case Study Interview Experience: Case study. Simple calculation based case. No assumptions etc required. Don’t remember the question though. But the question could be easily cracked with simple application of maths. One should always ask the interviewer before making any assumptions. Also there's no need to panic. One should carefully listen to the hints.
Round: Case Study Interview Experience: Asked loads of cases. First was to calculate the market for a pair of female shoes in Mumbai. You are expected to ask for all the data i.e price, type of shoes etc. Then was asked to find the revenue of Barista in Mumbai, market for Laptops in India, all the things you would tell to Walmart planning to set up retail outlet in India, if you were their Consultant, market for washing machines in India in 2009. The HR questions they asked were to elaborate on an academic as well as a non academic project, the advantages and disadvantages of working in teams.
Round: Resume Shortlist Experience: Resume inputs from batch mates & more importantly from seniors. Fine tuning the resume with inputs especially from seniors or batch mates who are already working helped a lot.
Round: Test Experience: Shortlisting based on test
Round: HR Interview Experience: 2-4 rounds of interviews. 2nd round again was a mix of business case studies and HR questions
Round: Case Study Interview Experience: 1st round had 2 Estimation Case studies along with some HR questions. For example, Calculate no. of cold drinks sold in India in a given year.
General Tips: For students going for Non-Tech companies, neglecting HR questions can be a big mistake (Not particularly sure how important. itis for Tech companies).Tell me about yourself seems to be the most innocent questions of all, but can prove to be a big pain ifleft for Impromptu. As far as case studies go, solve at least 5 different types of case in your group to get a feel for it.
