Working at SBI provides you ample oppurtunities to operate in multitude scenarios from Retail Branch Banking to SMEs and Commercial & Corporate Banking Fields. Further you have options to move into Treasury, Learning and Development(teaching), Forex or International Banking. In addition to this you can move abroad for working in foreign arms of SBI after clearing some internal exams and interviews. Coming to the Work Life Balance and from my experience shortage of staff is evident. If you are working in Retail Branches you will be expected to Book good Business in all business segments along with Cross Sellings or CVE as it is called in SBI to provide income to bank. Foremost aspect will be the due diligence and monitoring which you need to perform while rendering any type of Banking services to the customers. Work Life Balance in Retail Bank branches is better than most of the private players as per my opinion. On the front of Career Progression, SBI provide i think the fastest Career Progression to managers. Employees who joined as POs after clearing SBI POs exam hardly takes 10-12 years to become Chief Managers. Salary and Emoluments are also best in class in comparison to Private Players. When progressed to higher Level management positions then it lags behind the private players. In the end, I would say SBI is a brand working with which you get a well suited image in society as well as you are respected. Some people in Metro cities often mock SBIans for lunch breaks and not working but mark my words; the level of work a Branch Manager perform in SBI is unmatchable by other competitors Employess/Managers. Job security, reimbursement ranging from a concessional HL upto Rs 150 lakhs to a mug of Rs. 15. Bank takes care of each and every expense u make for either u or ur family. Then brand name is incredible, u don't have to hunt for business... It comes automatically.

1. TRANSFERS.. this is biggest flaw in SBI.. u just get settled at a place and u are due for transfer and that too could be a far flung area. 2. Work pressure.. it is increasing many folds day by day.. u are expected to work 7 days.. set aside you family and don't expect leaves 3. CROSS SELLING PRESSURE.. at this point, bank is alsohelpless as there is cut throat competition in market every other margin is almost Nil.. so bank is looking for commission business.. and there starts the problem... U do like 300% of your targets... But If u are not doing cross selling... It's futile... U will be nagged for this in every review meeting.....Read More

Being an Officer in SBI is the worst punishment any one could get. Horrible work life with unrealistic targets, pressure of selling useless insurance products; govt sponsored loans and schemes, fake gcc transactions targets, repeated and worthless tasks etc etc list of tortures is endless.
