In these troubled times, Job Security is the first thing that comes to the mind. You get paid a fixed amount on a fixed date. That’s the biggest hook the company has. Also, I won’t deny that, there are a few bad apples- but in general, this is one of the cleanest organisations I’ve ever seen.

I can overlook everything- if, and only if the work life balance was good. I do agree that in today's corporate world, there are going to be fires now and then- but at the ground level, at least till initial 15-20 years of your career- you’re worked like a slave. Trust me. You’re frowned upon institutionally, if you try to have a separate life outside your office. It doesn’t matter what your productivity is. What matters how many hours you’re burning the lamp. It doesn’t help if you’re a smart worker and can finish your job and go home. Dumb workers are appreciated, because they are putting in more hours. Everyone will say smart working’s the way to go- but at ground level it won’t matter. You’ll have to sacrifice your life and dedicate yourself to office and office only. State Bank of India is excellent as employer in Indian context. The Bank handles their business with most efficient hands. State Bank has the largest banking network in the country. Always there are chances of being posted in tough places. Usually work-pressure is very high. Functional system in SBI is structured. Bringing any change there becomes a time-consuming process. Due to the nature of job there is always a thin feeling of job-insecurity throughout the career.

Having joined as P.O. in 1980, I have worked in North Eastern states and in West Bengal. I felt great to be a part of the efficient work-force of the bank. In SBI product innovations are excellent. There are always challenges in the job.
