I wanted to give my opinion on the interview process at Groupon for the role of Customer service representative. I badly wanted a job, that too during such unprecedent times. Even me and my family were affected by COVID and was already in a great personal turmoil. That is when I got to know about this role at Groupon.
The first round was telephonic, post that I was asked to give my English test. Then i got to know that I had scored well and my profile has been processed to the manager round. The whole process got over in 2 days, and I was told that I had cleared the interview and was asked to await my offer letter. The submission of the required documents was also done. I was really happy that I got through and the whole interview process was smooth to be honest.
My DOJ is now nearing, but the recruiter, as I await my offer letter, asked me to wait for a while.
This is when, all of a sudden I received a call from the company yesterday, saying that, there is now a change in the business direction, my typing speed was below 38 WPM, and I'm supposed to get a cutoff score in each of the segments in that English test, which I was told that I had cleared previously. This, they said, now means that I'm no longer qualified for the role.
How is that a person be rejected post the whole interview process, having submitted the documents and been told he/she had cleared the test and asked to wait for the offer letter? This absurd, pathetic and not at all transparent interview process took me aback.
Such a woeful interview process, that too for an entry level role, in a company of Groupon's stature is shocking. They aren't looking for people, they just need typewriters to do the job instead. Maybe, the role should be renamed as "Typewriter service representative".
I would hardly recommend anyone to go work at Groupon, no matter the role. Looking at people, during such chaotic times, desperate, looking for jobs being treated this way is inhumane and sick....Read More
