there is free coffee and the salary comes on time.
There is nothing to like. It is a toxic, fraudulent, sad place to work for. They hire 'product managers' and make them do project management, analysis etc kind of work which is irrelevant to skills. there is no onboarding process. They don't explain expectations, roles, responsibilities etc. They don't even do goal setting. They will say you don't meet expectations without setting expectations - beware. You will have zero job security here. Good, smart, hard-working people have been fired by inexperienced, stupid managers. Ask the head of the department basic subject-related questions - you will see what they bring to the table (nothing). Your salary will be below the market rate. Bosses - managers & senior management have no idea what they are doing - so many wrong decisions by seniors, and juniors have to pay the price. The seniors, at least for the product team, never take responsibility and the team suffers. Some favourite employees misbehave with females, and the management does not take any action. Some people are allowed to work from home indefinitely while others must come to the office even during emergencies and illnesses. If you are not a bootlicker, you will suffer here. UK counterparts can enjoy long holidays without disturbance. But Indians must be available during leave, holidays, and weekends - East India Company left and Blenheim Chalcot took its place. Beware - well-qualified people from elite institutes (tier 1 B schools) were lured by this company - 90% of them declined the offer. I wonder why. There is a basic infrastructure shortage - no chairs, no pantry to sit and eat in peace. You ask for a chair and they lash out at you as if it's your fault there is no chair. It's fun though, a game of musical chairs every day. HR is useless and will definitely throw you under the bus. The good things about this place - Salary comes on time. Work life balance is great but due to a negative reason - there isn't much work to do in the first place, people are on bench for months at stretch. Some of your peers are smart and help you learn, but politics may stop this as people try to one up eachother.
1. Complete lack of structure - they are hiring at large scale without having any structure or processes in place. No onboarding, no process introduction, no expectation setting in a timely manner - many crucial things just don't exist. When the system (or lack of it) fails, the blame falls on people and they become scapegoats. 2. Lack of managers- what happens when 90+ fresh graduates are reporting to a single person, who is a first time manager? You guessed it - chaos. There are not enough managers and it cases tonnes of unresolved issues. 3. Since there are no processes, people can twist the situations as they want. Eg. No response from manager means you have to assume leave has been denied. 4. There is zero onboarding for new joiners and absolutely no support provided in early days. It's acceptable if the managers don't respond to your queries, but not if your work gets affected due to this. The impact of this on people's performance is obviously largely negative. 5. Some times, people don't get projects for months at stretch and being on the bench for a long time might not be a happy place for everyone. 6. A complete lack of culture as 99% of the workforce has been recently hired. People with unacceptable behaviours are tolerated because they keep pleasing the bosses and clients, but treat others like shit. 7. Remote work policies are extremely biased. Some folks are allowed to work remotely, but their reporting team has to strictly work from office, irrespective of circumstances or emergencies. 8. If you decide work here, keep applying to other jobs - because you will never know when you will lose your job. Worst thing about this place - terrible, terrible in terms of job security. Most important advice: If you are letting go of other job offer for this company - we urge you to reconsider - a stable, organized workplace is much better. One thing I appreciate about this place is the realization that I deserve better.
The company appeared prestigious at first glance but lacked ethics, had a partial work culture, and offered no job security. Despite joining after thorough research, it proved to be quite disturbing. Founded with few employees, it grew, promoting individuals with little to no knowledge to key positions. Unfortunately, this led to mismanagement and exploitation of privileges by leaders. Witnessing pregnant employees pressured to resign and relatives unfairly being promoted was distressing also asking managers to terminate employees simply because they were involved in workplace disagreements with their partners or relatives. I observed employees coerced into leaving disturbing and suicidal conversations among colleagues contemplating drastic action due to toxic management. Management seems overly interested in employees' personal lives, asking about their whereabouts, who they socialize with, and why they spend time with certain colleagues outside of work, asking us as managers to do the same. I like how they try to be cool but aren't.
Firstly you will like the environment & you will survive if you don't speak up. There no corporate culture here, its like a close friends running the whole business. The salary that you get on time doesn't reflect your hard work or the value you bring, it depends on how good you are at making your line manager give you the highest rating. (The more you boast about the work which you might not have done brings in more salary and respect). Everything that you expect from a proper product company is lacking here. The company headquarters is in London. Voila, get ready to be treated as peasants if someone from the UK visits the office. They'll be treated as lords, while employees from India are treated as use and throw. There is a separate wing called "The Admin" to specially take care of the people from the UK. Apart from the worst politics in the office, the company has a strict work-from-office policy (where you can't choose which office to work from), and the space is so small for the employees that you have to find a new place every single day (this is improving nowadays as they are firing people in huge batches). If you ask for Work From Home, they'll force you to take a leave. But people who have a good rapport with the so-called, Senior Leadership Team, they'll be granted weeks of Work From Home. The pantry won't even fit 1/5th of the employees, people should eat in batches as there is no space. Neither they increase office space nor do they grant permission for Work From Home. As a bonus, there is something called Quarterly Awards, god that must be a joke. I agree a few people get awards based on the value they create, but the majority of the awards go to the people who create that "I am working very hard" kind of impression with the Senior Team (They usually don't work, I know it because they could barely solve any problem that falls under their designation). There are people designated as Data Science Leads, who barely know anything technical. ClaudeAI/ChatGPT has become a weapon for these people who don't even know anything about Data Science but sit in the highest position in the hierarchy to dictate to the people on the lower hierarchy, the same sentences GPT gives you on any topic. They seem very knowledgeable, they speak of things that you've never heard but in reality, they lack everything. For the past 1 year, management has hired people who are clearly unfit for leadership roles and let them rule and judge the people who are under them. The management expects people to work on things outside of their domain, for example a data scientist would be expected to do software engineering, sometimes frontend engineering too. If you say no to the work, first you'll be offboarded from the working portfolio or project, eventually, you'll be fired from the company (I have seen this happen to my colleague) They fire people like hell, they'll ask someone in the middle of the day to leave with their laptop on their desk and not come to the office the next day. There is something called a notice period which they clearly violate. There is no chance for you to say anything against them. They announce the news of your firing as if they are doing an eternal favor for you. They send people to London, again those who have that "I am working very hard" kind of impression. Not those people who actually sit overtime to improve any feature in the product or the person who actually works weekends without any compensation. The Job of the leadership is to hire good people, who create intangible value for the company and the employees. Always remember, a person might have 26 Years of experience, but might not have that leadership qualities in him to drive the company to success or create value for the employees to train them. A person might just have 12 years of experience but can create a significant impact on the company. People here hire randomly without any proper capability check and culture check. I agree that there are a lot of people who have those capabilities and were hired based on them, but I feel none of them are at that leadership level which is very vital. God, there are a ton of things out there, that I can't list because I am exhausted of thinking these things. Some person in the C-level position has lashed out in the office for writing the "Accurate Bad" reviews on Ambition Box and Glassdoor. That's the state of this company, Period. The company is trying to transform into a Product Operating Model, as stated in the book Transformed by Marty Cagan. I strongly sense that this might not happen at all. Leadership is hired very badly. I know many others might have had a completely different experience, but this is truly what I have experienced. Also, there is a huge gender parity in the office, you know which gender is treated better than another, no need to mention. If someone from the Admin or Leadership is reading this, please replace the coffee machines with something better, we deserve some good coffee at least. Management 0/5 Culture... huh, no such entity exists, What else? Favouritism, Superb office politics, Don't know for what role they are hiring, ie. pilot hired for cabin crew's job.
