Company is technically strong in principles of Transport Modelling, and UK lead office lets bangalore office take the lead on alot of the work, which is good, because bangalore gets to control the budget and hours estimates. Work culture is good, and you don't feel the boxed hierarchy in some competing companies.

there is no clear cut slab for salary structure for different grades. as a result two people with the same years of experience might be at extremely different salaries, creating lot of disparity in the team. Despite calls to be transparent with the salary slabs, this is never taken seriously. As a result good engineers will move on to other companies even for a marginal hike, just because in a new environment they may feel relatively at a comparable salary with their counterparts. In other competing companies, the lead office decides the salaries and recruitment, here at Arcadis because it is the local office technical director who calls the shots, a Senior candidate who is already at a very high salary in a competing company can be offered even more just to come and get into this team, if we are not finding other Senior candidates...Read More

Got Rejected In an Interview, Just Because I Didn’t Answer a Personal Question

So, I got invited for this interview, and they told me to be there at 9 AM. Of course, I get there early, like 8:30, because I don't want to be late. But then I end up waiting for 1.5 hours. Seriously, they didn't even acknowledge me until 10. Then this HR lady calls me in, and she's totally unprofessional. She's like, on her phone, making personal calls while I'm sitting right there. And then she starts asking me these really weird questions, like what my nickname is, and what my dad does for a living. It got really uncomfortable when she started pressing for details about where my dad works. I mean, what does that have to do with anything? So I politely told her I didn't want to answer, and she actually said, "Then we can't continue this interview." I was honestly shocked. But instead of arguing, I just stood up and said, “Alright then.” And walked out. I left feeling pissed. Not only did they waste an hour of my time, but the HR rep was also rude and unprofessional..
