American Express always encourage a work-life balance culture, whether you are hired as FTE or contractor for the organization. It gives an ample amount of opportunities to grow which is impecible for any tenured or a fresher employee.

Dislikes

I guess apart from limited access to system for contractors is the only restriction which doesn't allow contractors to learn more about internal domain knowledge

Work life balance depends on the projects in Technology and hence many times, it becomes bad, appraisals are mostly in higher single digits or lower double digits maximum. Promotions are usually given based on favouritism.

My team leader pressured me so much in terms for going out for dinners lunches etc and when I started avoiding he made sure that my performance chart was good enough to not to shift me to anyother team as I kept on apply internally..moreover when i reached out to the HR for harrassment complaint she took his side even when I provided evidence. Work culture at Amex is amazing. Senior leadership is easily approachable.

One thing I dislike about is the promotion aspect as I feel the chances of promotion is less at amex.

Learning curve is good, Gbt Product is complex and interesting. C-suite management has clear vision and well defined roadmap.

Managerial roles from India geolocation ill/under trained, usually they are promoted to manager role for reasons - They have product knowledge as they would spent 10+ years in org. Seriously lacking work ethics and standards. My higher up manager was literally unable to meet the higher up expectations and would add undue pressure and treat team members not less than master/slave approach. So one should have great emotional intelligence to work with ill trained managers in Amexgbt. The problem with amex is that many department are understaffed and they don't hire people resulting into employees cannot take leaves or has to work more hours to show there productivity

Amazing company to work with. Monetary benefits are really good. Insurance and yearly appraisals are greatly appreciated. Perks are good and play crucial role in employee’s motivation. If you are lucky you will get good managers and work journey would be smooth and promising. Amex is a wonderful company and people in higher management i.e. above band 40 are employee centric.

Work culture of every management is different. Few are really appreciating their team members and few will micromanage and do not support. Few teams do not recognise their employee’s effort. Favouritism will be easily seen. If you make good relationship with manager then good work will come to you and you will be appreciated on regular basis. You will get chance to be in meetings with higher management and that increases visibility.If no good terms with management then they will suppress your good work and no recognition for your extraordinary performance in RnRs. After-all your rating is in their hands. Goal’s rating is under employee’s control but Leadership rating is under your manager’s control. Managers can intentionally ruin rating as they dislike that particular. They wont let to take internal movement. I dislike toxic managers like Vikas Malhotra - who promotes only favoritism. He tends to recognize colleagues based on personal preferences rather than their talents and capabilities. He promotes only those who praise him, while the rest of us suffer under his leadership. This environment is not conducive to growth or collaboration, and I believe it impacts team morale negatively.

Workload is way too much. Even they want you to be like robots who work as per the breaks assigned by them and if you dont they penalise you. I guess when we are working somewhere we should have the freedom to take break on our own time. Not as per how company decides or sets it. Basically they are treating you like a school kid.
