OpenStack Specialist

OpenStack Deployment and Management:

• Deploy and configure OpenStack components including Nova, Neutron, Swift, Cinder, Horizon, and Keystone.
• Perform installation, configuration, and upgrade tasks for OpenStack environments.
• Ensure high availability and redundancy for OpenStack services.

Troubleshooting and Support:

• Provide expert-level troubleshooting and support for OpenStack-related issues across various environments.
• Monitor OpenStack services and infrastructure for performance and resolve any operational issues that arise.
• Identify and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and system failures.

Cloud Architecture:

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable and fault-tolerant cloud infrastructure.
• Work with teams to design and improve architecture solutions on OpenStack for business requirements.

Automation and Scripting:

• Develop automation scripts using tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef to streamline and optimize OpenStack management.
• Implement Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes and tools in the cloud environment.

Collaboration and Documentation:

• Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to implement cloud solutions.
• Maintain documentation related to OpenStack configurations, troubleshooting guides, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Security and Compliance:

• Ensure the OpenStack environment adheres to security best practices.
• Implement security protocols and manage identity and access controls in OpenStack.

Performance Tuning:

• Regularly assess system performance and make recommendations for improvement.
• Optimize the OpenStack environment for better performance and cost-effectiveness.

Core Technical Skills:

• Expertise in OpenStack installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix-based operating systems.
• Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (KVM, VMware, etc. ) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP).
• Familiarity with cloud orchestration tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Chef.

Programming and Scripting:

• Proficient in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or Shell.
• Experience with automation tools and frameworks.

Cloud Management and Monitoring:

• Familiarity with cloud monitoring tools and log management (e. g. , Nagios, Prometheus, Grafana).
• Experience with cloud provisioning and management platforms such as OpenStack Horizon or CLI.

Security Best Practices:

• Knowledge of security protocols, identity management, and access control mechanisms.
• Understanding of best practices for cloud security, including network security and vulnerability assessments.

Collaboration and Documentation:

• Strong communication skills for coordinating with various teams.
• Experience writing technical documentation and manuals.

Education:

• A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A Masters degree is a plus.

Experience:

• 3-7 years of experience working with OpenStack or similar cloud platforms.
• Proven experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining OpenStack-based solutions.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure management and performance tuning.

Certifications:

• OpenStack Certified Administrator (CCA) or similar certifications are highly desirable.
• Cloud certifications such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud are a plus.
