Network Monitoring Specialist

Network Monitoring:

• Continuously monitor the performance, availability, and security of network systems, identifying issues and taking appropriate corrective actions.
• Utilize advanced monitoring tools such as Nagios, SolarWinds, PRTG, or Wireshark to oversee network health, bandwidth, latency, and potential disruptions.

Incident Management & Troubleshooting:

• Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues, including hardware, software, and configuration problems.
• Perform root cause analysis for network-related incidents and implement preventive measures to reduce recurrence.

Performance Optimization:

• Analyze network traffic and performance data to identify potential bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, or underutilized resources.
• Collaborate with network engineers to optimize network configurations, ensuring maximum efficiency and uptime.

Security Monitoring:

• Implement and monitor security protocols to prevent unauthorized access, intrusions, and other security breaches.
• Regularly update firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other security mechanisms to safeguard the network infrastructure.

Reporting & Documentation:

• Generate and maintain detailed reports on network performance, incidents, and optimization recommendations.
• Maintain accurate documentation for all network monitoring procedures, troubleshooting steps, and configurations.

Collaboration & Support:

• Collaborate with IT teams, network engineers, and system administrators to ensure smooth integration of network infrastructure with other systems.
• Provide support for network-related tasks during new installations, upgrades, or troubleshooting activities.

Compliance & Best Practices:

• Ensure compliance with internal and external security policies, industry standards, and best practices for network management.
• Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in networking and security.

Networking Protocols & Technologies:

• Strong knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, HTTP, and SNMP.
• Familiarity with routing and switching technologies (e. g. , VLAN, OSPF, BGP, and MPLS).
• Experience in configuring and maintaining routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.

Network Monitoring Tools:

• Expertise in network monitoring platforms like Nagios, SolarWinds, Wireshark, or PRTG.
• Proficient in setting up alerts, thresholds, and monitoring KPIs for network performance.

Security Management:

• Understanding of network security technologies including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and encryption techniques.
• Experience in implementing security measures to safeguard the network environment.

Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:

• Advanced troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyze and resolve network issues using various tools and methodologies.
• Knowledge of diagnostic tools and techniques for network performance analysis and optimization.

Scripting & Automation (Optional):

• Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell to automate network monitoring tasks.

Soft Skills:

• Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical teams.
• Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.

Education:

• Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or Certified Network Professional (CNP) are highly preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum of 2-5 years of hands-on experience in network monitoring, management, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with large-scale network infrastructure in a corporate or enterprise environment is highly desirable.

Certifications (Preferred):

• CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent network-related certifications.
• Certifications in network security such as CISSP, CISM, or CEH would be advantageous.
