Role Overview Description
A) Product Development: Partner the leadership team by building and deploying technology products that achieve the long term goals of the Company The focus product domains are:
â Enhance customer experience through digitisation
â Payments integration into the app leveraging Open Banking
â Inventory management and in-stock management
â Depot operations optimization
B) Technology Architecture: Design and implement the technical architecture for the Company. The considerations for this architecture should encompass the following:
â Programming platform for front end and middle layers
â Database platforms
â Deployment environment - cloud vs on-prem vs hybrid
â CI/CD process
â Middleware and integration standards
â Data pipelines for reporting, business intelligence and analytics
The right balance between agility, functionality and total cost of ownership should be a key consideration for the above.
C) Change Management: Provide sound technical leadership in all aspects of our business from concept to deployment and adoption. Communicate with employees, stakeholders and customers to ensure our company''s technologies are used appropriately. Strategic thinking and strong business acumen are essential in this role. We expect you to be well-versed in current technological trends and familiar with a variety of business concepts. You should be able to clearly articulate thoughts and communicate technical verbiage to non-technical individuals.
D) Manage the customer app and total digital journey: The wholesale industry is historically archaic with minimal disruption. We have embarked on a journey of technological change by implementing a new back office system that enables us to take payments through Open Banking (we have received an Approved Payments Institution licence from the FCA). We have also created an app that enhances the customer experience by allowing them to search for products in depot, view invoices and make payments through the app. Beyond managing the current app, the aim would be to use an omni channel approach to continuously drive innovation and improve customer experience
E) Co-Manage the Development Team: Work with the Director of Product & Tech in London to manage the team of ~15. This includes front-end, back-end, UX/UI, Project Managers etc.

Requirements and Skills:
â BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; MBA or other relevant graduate degree is a plus
â 10+ years of experience as a CTO, Director of Technology or similar leadership role
â Experience in retail / wholesale sector desirable but not required
â Managerial and leadership skills
â Knowledge of technological trends to build strategy
â Understanding of budgets and business-planning
â Excellent communication skills
â Leadership abilities with proven experience building teams
Experience that would be good to have:
â Build a tech and product team grounds up
â Leading a product organization
â Software development and engineering in complex environments
â Experience cloud native architecture a plus
â Mobile product development critical
Engagement Type: Direct-hire with the client
