The Sleep Company is committed to building seamless and high-performing digital experiences. We are looking for an SDE2 - Frontend Engineer to enhance our frontend development with expertise in component design and migration from traditional platforms to modern React-based architectures.

Position Overview

As an SDE2 - Frontend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing scalable, reusable, and high-performance React components. You will play a key role in migrating applications from traditional CMS or Shopify to a React-based headless architecture. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, a deep understanding of frontend best practices, and the ability to optimize applications for speed and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

React Development & Component Design:

• Design, build, and optimize reusable React.js components and frontend architecture.
• Implement best practices for performance optimization, UI responsiveness, and cross-browser compatibility.
• Work with state management libraries like Redux, Recoil, or Context API.

Migration & Headless Architecture:

• Lead Shopify, CMS, or PHP-based migrations to a React-based frontend.
• Implement and optimize headless eCommerce solutions.
• Work with API-driven approaches, integrating with GraphQL or RESTful APIs.

Collaboration & Best Practices:

• Work closely with backend developers, UI/UX teams, and product managers to ensure seamless integration.
• Maintain and enforce coding standards, component reusability, and modular design.
• Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers.

Performance Optimization & Deployment:

• Optimize frontend performance by minimizing bundle sizes, leveraging lazy loading, and using efficient rendering techniques.
• Work with CI/CD pipelines and frontend testing frameworks like Jest or Cypress.
• Ensure applications meet SEO, accessibility, and core web vitals standards.

Qualifications & Skills

Technical Skills:

• Strong expertise in React.js, Next.js (preferred), and modern frontend frameworks.
• Experience in component-driven architecture and UI state management (Redux, Recoil, or Context API).
• Deep understanding of JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, and Styled Components.
• Experience working with API integrations (RESTful, GraphQL, headless CMS).
• Familiarity with Shopify Hydrogen, Strapi, Contentful, or other headless CMS solutions is a plus.
• Exposure to backend concepts, Node.js, or PHP-based systems is beneficial.

Migration & Headless Expertise (Bonus):

• Hands-on experience migrating from PHP, Shopify, WordPress, or other CMS platforms to a React-based frontend.
• Strong knowledge of headless architecture, API-first development, and static site generation (SSG/ISR/SSR).

Additional Skills:

• Experience with frontend performance optimization (lazy loading, image optimization, code splitting, etc.).
• Familiarity with CI/CD processes, version control (Git), and deployment strategies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and lead frontend development initiatives.
