Job Description

  • Gartner is searching for an India-based Director to join our global Peer and Practitioner Research team
  • This opportunity gives researchers and leaders an exposure to the full range of Tech Service Provider (TSP) organizations leadership-level strategic and management topics
  • The Director will be responsible for (a) setting and communicating the vision, strategy, and value proposition of the team with global leadership, (b) managing a team of managers and researchers who are investigating, analyzing and writing on critical issues facing senior leaders in leading global tech organizations and (b) innovating and scaling content delivery models to accelerate content creation, helping our clients navigate their most pressing concerns of the day
  • This involves working reviewing with the research team on a wide range of written deliverables and producing research providing strategic and actionable advice for top executives, while breaking down complex topics into an easily digestible and consumable format
  • Being part of this team will provide you with opportunities to support discussions among various industry leaders, identify and design tools and frameworks to support clients in critical processes, and help organizations transform the way they operate
  • The Director must be intellectually curious and have the desire to quickly develop generalist knowledge
  • The role is a key feeder to careers reaching the highest levels of the firm
What you will do:
  • Lead a team (~8+ associates including TMs) through effective coaching / continuous performance feedback, managing performance at all levels and hiring, developing, and retaining top talent.
  • Lead a research team through Gartners proprietary research process including hypothesis generation, primary and secondary research, and root cause analysis to identify best-in-class solutions.
  • Build and own all relationships with TSP stakeholders globally, to seamlessly drive research initiatives. This includes working with stakeholders across BUs and senior practice leaders to develop operational plans, discuss strategic directions and incorporate ongoing improvements.
  • Learn and execute Gartners proven methodology for conducting world-class research that helps identify best practice solutions to many of todays biggest business challenges.
  • Provide thought leadership to the research team to interpret, collect, analyze, and structure information from top executives that are actionable, applicable (not academic), and aligned with their workflows.
  • Lead initiatives for on-going improvements, innovation, quality improvement, reporting metrics and ideas on supporting the broader TSP practice and RA business. Continuously and collaboratively prioritize efforts against areas of highest business impact.
  • Drive timely delivery of a regular calendar of research deliverables including whitepapers, presentations, client-shared materials, case studies and best practice documents .
  • Ensure the quality of deliverables by undertaking regular checks of the researchers work by reviewing documents, listening into/shadowing discussions with stakeholders and SMEs.
  • Motivate, coach, facilitate, problem solve, address people-related issues, and be actively involved in the day-to-day activities of the team.

  • A Effective Deliverer who can navigate ambiguity to effectively deliver sustainable business evolution which has been built through collaboration. Is able to take others on the journey as successes are delivered.
  • A Flexible Leader who is able to work outside strict job description parameters and ability to think creatively about how to provide highest levels of effectiveness, service and business outcomes.
Preferred experience:
  • Masters (Management, Economics, Sociology, Political Science, MBA etc) or PhD degrees in fields such as management, social science, sociology etc
  • 9 + years of research and/or management consulting experience
  • At least 2 years of experience managing research projects end-to-end.
  • At least 3 years of experience in leading and managing a team of researchers.
  • Prior experience of managing TMs
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and relay ideas, engage clients and work in global teams.
