The Enterprise Risk management & Risk Oversight organization within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all processes and geographies at American Express.

The Director, Enterprise Risk Management CoE, will be part of the GRC organization and will report to the Co-lead of International ERM based out of India. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the Enterprise Compliance Risk Governance Program for all safety and soundness areas of regulations. The incumbent will also help support the risk identification, risk aggregation and escalation across international businesses. The risk universe s scope would include but not limited to Credit Risk, Operational Risk, Market Risk, Liquidity & Funding Risks , Conduct Risk, Reputational risk, Business and Strategic risk. The incumbent will lead a team of risk professionals in India and will be responsible for monitoring regulatory activities across international and also identifying, measuring, monitoring, and reporting on enterprise risks. We are seeking an experienced leader to be a part of this exciting journey.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop Enterprise Compliance Risk Governance Program for international for safety and soundness areas of law

Partner with other Risk Oversight teams, Global Counsel Office, Compliance teams to ensure AXP has a robust program for ongoing compliance in international

Develop risk tolerance limits, and establish risk appetite metrics and escalation thresholds for all major risk types

Identify emerging risks in accordance with the risk appetite program and regulatory changes

Establish policies, practices, and other control mechanisms to manage key enterprise risks

Monitor and report on international legal entities aggregate risk profile, initiating appropriate actions to ensure adherence to risk appetite

Support the creation of dashboards and other reporting tools and provide regular updates to applicable legal entity boards and GRC and international leadership

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience and Background:

7+ years of leadership experience in risk management, compliance, audit, controllership or a similar role.

Strong business and risk acumen with a control perspective.

Strong analytical ability to connect disparate risks with the ability to measure them

Strong understanding of regulatory nuances and banking industry.

Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.

Advanced degree in business, engineering, economics or a related field is preferred

Leadership Skills :

• Proven leader who can build, inspire, and coach a team with a passion for risk and business.
• Excellent relationship and influence management skills with the ability to build productive relationships across teams and levels of seniority.
• Self-confident with a strong sense of integrity and the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged.
• Proactive in identifying issues, delivering and escalating key findings, and advising on recommended solutions to correct issues or mitigate risks.
• Ability to communicate risk observations to colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
