Interview Questionnaire

3 Questions

  • Q1. Bending moment and shear force diagram at different location of a indeterminate structure
  • Ans.

Bending moment and shear force diagrams show internal forces in a structure.

    • Bending moment diagram shows variation of bending moment along the length of the structure.

    • Shear force diagram shows variation of shear force along the length of the structure.

    • Indeterminate structures require solving equations of equilibrium to determine internal forces.

    • Internal forces can be used to design structural members and ensure safety.

  • Q2. Tension and compression members in Truss for different support conditions
  • Ans.

Tension and compression members in truss vary based on support conditions.

    • In a truss with pinned supports, tension members are at the top and compression members are at the bottom.

    • In a truss with fixed supports, tension and compression members are reversed.

    • In a cantilever truss, the tension and compression members are on opposite sides of the support.

    • The type of support greatly affects the forces in the truss members.

  • Answered by AI
  • Q3. Tension and compression face in frame structure, retaining wall for different loading etc
  • Ans.

Tension and compression are important considerations in frame structures and retaining walls for different loading scenarios.

    • Tension occurs when a force pulls on a material, while compression occurs when a force pushes on a material.

    • In frame structures, tension and compression forces are distributed throughout the structure to maintain stability.

    • Retaining walls must be designed to withstand both tension and compression...

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Only technical will be asked and that also only from structural engineering.
Tips: Get hold of IS 456 and IS 800. This is very important to clear the written exam.

Round: Interview
Experience: Around 60 minute long interview
Tips: In technical interview only subjective structural engineering questions will be asked. Questions might seem lengthy but they won't be. They will check your fundamentals. So if you are not able to do it, at least explain the procedure.

Round: Interview
Experience: Around 30 minute long interview
Tips: In the HR they will try to judge whether you really want to be an structural engineer. If you prove that then your HR is fine.

General Tips: This was the only company I prepared for. I was also preparing little bit for GATE exam. So that helped me a little. If you really wanna get placed in this Company, you better be prepared in the structural engineering only. They will ask only the technical questions. No matter what is your CGPA, you have to perform in their written test and interview (both technical and HR). They take one of the most rigorous interviews. Main work of the company is in steel structure design. So take notice of that.
Skills: Structural Engineering
College Name: IIT Roorkee
Motivation: From the very begining I wanted to be a structural engineer. Although I wasn't a very good student and didn't had a great CGPA. When I saw the website and later the ppt of the company, I had this feeling that this is the company for me. So for the first time, I studied for the placement.

  • Q5. Deflection diagram for frames
  • Ans.

Deflection diagram for frames shows the displacement of each point along the frame under load.

    • Deflection diagrams are used to visualize how a frame deforms under load.

    • They show the displacement of each point along the frame in response to applied loads.

    • The shape of the deflection diagram can help engineers analyze the structural integrity of the frame.

    • Common types of deflection diagrams include bending moment diagrams

  • Q6. Bending moment diagram for frames
  • Ans.

Bending moment diagram shows variation of bending moment along the length of a frame.

    • Bending moment diagram helps in analyzing the internal forces in a frame.

    • It is plotted with distance along the frame on x-axis and bending moment on y-axis.

    • Points of zero bending moment indicate locations of maximum bending moment.

    • The diagram can be used to determine the critical sections of a frame.

(3 Questions)

  • Q1. Identify forces in given truss structure.
  • Ans.

Forces in a truss structure can be identified by analyzing the external loads and internal member forces.

    • External loads such as weight, wind, and seismic forces create tension and compression forces in the truss members.

    • Internal member forces can be calculated using the method of joints or method of sections.

    • Examples of forces include axial, shear, and bending forces.

    • The forces must be balanced for the truss to remain
