Round 1 - Technical

(4 Questions)

  • Q1. Ansys contact formulation: Lagrange, Penalty, Augmented lagrange
  • Q2. Why do shell elements have rotational DOF?
  • Ans.

Shell elements have rotational DOF to capture bending and twisting behavior.

    • Rotational DOF allow shell elements to model the bending and twisting behavior of structures.

    • Without rotational DOF, shell elements would only be able to capture translational movements.

    • Rotational DOF enable accurate representation of complex geometries and loading conditions.

    • For example, in a thin-walled structure like an aircraft wing, rotati...

  • Q3. Difference between isotropic and kinematic hardening? What does translation of yield surface mean?
  • Ans.

Isotropic hardening refers to the change in yield stress due to plastic deformation, while kinematic hardening refers to the change in yield stress due to cyclic loading. Translation of yield surface refers to the shift of the yield surface in stress space.

    • Isotropic hardening is associated with the change in yield stress due to plastic deformation.

    • Kinematic hardening is associated with the change in yield stress due to...
