Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: The selection process for post graduate students started with group discussion. The eligible students were divide into groups of 10 or 12. A general topic was given to be discussed (E.g. Role of women in society, computers kill creativity etc). At the end of the discussion, the representative of the company might ask some queries to a few of the students (two or three), based on their statements in the GD.
Tips: Do’s: Write down your points in a piece of paper. Speak them clearly when you get your chance. Try to make your points brief, clear and relevant.
Don’ts: Do not try to overdo things. Please keep in mind that you ought to give opportunities to other group members.

Round: Test
Experience: You will be given a form and will be asked to tick your qualities. Please do it honestly. This was not an elimination round. In fact this was not found relevant in the whole process of recruitment.

Round: Interview
Experience: There were two representatives of the company in the interview panel-one from technical section and the other from HR. The technical part of the interview was mostly based on the topic (There could be extra questions if your CGPA is low). A relevant topic could help (If the topic is relevant, mention it in your CV as well). The HR questions were very straightforward. They might ask certain things from your CV as well. The location preference was one prime concern for them. HERO MOTOCORP is setting up a new R&D division in Jaipur and so wanted people to be willing to go to Jaipur. So they were very keen to know if we had any problem in working at Jaipur.

General Tips: Though CGPA is not the prime criteria of HERO MOTOCORP, we were told that they were looking for an optimum combination of different parameters (they didn’t reveal the parameters). Project topic can help a lot, especially if it is of interest to the company. Being a good team man and good communicator would help as group discussion would be the first step in the recruitment process.
Skill Tips: Proficiency in CFD softwares could help

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Topics were based on current affairs. No specific preparation required. We were given a sheet of paper on which adjectives were written on both sides. On one side, we were asked to tick the adjectives which described us according to our friends. On the other side we had to tick the adjectives which we thought best described us. I have appeared in about 10 GDs so far (during UG and PG placements), and I was not rejected in any one of them. The thing which was common in all the GDs was that I initiated in most of them and during the GD, I wrote down the points spoken by each member on paper and during the conclusion I spoke about each and everyone’s point. This gave me an edge over all others.
Tips: Try to initiate the GD if possible. But if you are not able to do so, try to atleast conclude it. Based on my GD experience, the points you make are not very important. The only important thing is that you must “SPEAK”. These HR guys from core companies don’t know exactly how to conduct a GD. I have seen people clearing GD round only by shouting and making irrelevant points. A GD for an IIM is totally a different game but for core companies only speaking in a GD is enough.

Round: Psychometric Test
Experience: This was not an elimination round.
Tips: Mark as many adjectives as possible but be honest at the same time. Based on the adjectives I marked. I was asked to give some specific real life examples for proving the same in the interview. As I had been honest in marking the adjectives, this was a piece of cake for me.

Round: Interview
Experience: The R&D head, HR head and a representative of Law department took my interview. The Law Representative did not ask any questions. About half of the total questions were asked by the R&D head. He stressed only on the MTech project. The HR head asked questions based on the psychometric test. She asked to give me real life examples and explanations for the adjectives that I had marked. Based on my CV, questions were asked by both R&D and HR head. As I already knew about the requirements through my seniors in the company, I was able to shape my project according to their needs.
Tips: It is advisable to talk to any of the seniors in the firm beforehand to get an idea of the type of requirements in the company and prepare for the interview accordingly. You must be very well prepared with your MTech. project and you must know exactly what you are going to do. Speak about your project according to the requirement of the company even if it is very remotely related to the work of the company.

Skill Tips: Just 60% in class 10th, 12th and graduation is enough for getting shortlisted for the company. There is no requirement of any extraordinary profile. Based on my profile and interview experience, I believe at least one CAD software and knowledge of Finite Element Method is required for R&D job in Design Engineering in any automobile sector company. For aptitude test of any company, only basic R S Aggarwal book is enough. For technical test by core companies, a sound knowledge is required which cannot be achieved by overnight preparation. The technical questions are quite easy but the number of questions is very large compared to time given.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Everyone above the CGPA of 6.0 was asked to appear for the written test. The written test had question from quantitative analysis and verbal reasoning. We also had some questions from the core mechanical engineering subjects. These questions weren't very tough and could be answered if someone had an overall knowledge of the basics.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: After the written test students were shortlisted for the group discussion. Our group consisted of 7 candidates and we were given the flexibility to choose a topic of our own choice. Out of our group, 4 students were shortlisted for interviews. Overall, around 11 students were shortlisted for interviews.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: In my interview round, all the technical questions were related to my intern and project. Other than that there were HR Questions. They asked me other HR related questions like Tell me about yourself, your strengths and weakness. Also they asked me to describe why I was suitable for a company. Further they wanted to describe myself as a non-living being and then also explain what are the qualities required to be a leader.

Overall it was a good experience but a person should have in depth knowledge of his interns and projects to go past the interview.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: It was a good test overall. The Aptitude test consist of 20 questions of each Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability & Critical Reasoning, a total of 60 questions in 60 minutes. The Technical test consist of 30 questions in 30 minutes almost from all the topics. As I was from Industrial Engineering & Management Stream I faced some difficulties in solving the questions as the core mechanical subject are not to us in details at our college. Mostly the questions were from Machine Design(Shafts, Rivets, Keys) Strength of Materials (Bending Stresses in Beams, Columns & Struts), Heat Transfer, Production Technology, Material Science and IC Engines.
Tips: For Aptitude Tests, do regular practice of all the online questions on Ambition Box itself or indiabix.com or lofoya.com (best). The technical questions are based on your past 4 years of study. You must know the subjects in detail. And If you are from Industrial or Production Engineering, you have to cover almost all the core subjects of mechanical engineering.
Duration: 90 minutes
Total Questions: 60+30

Round: Problem Statement
Experience: It was a group discussion and this problem was given to a group of 9 persons. They gave some time to read the problem and after that we have to discuss among ourselves that what should be the best alternative. My friend started the discussion and after that I followed and takes the discussion forward. But after sometimes, the atmosphere heated up and everyone started ranting and no one was able to speak during that. Then in the last everyone was asked to write the best solutions in one line on the paper and the papers were exchanged and the solutions were interpreted by the panelists. The Overall experience was good as I was able to speak up my points in the starting and I got selected through.
Tips: Please let everyone speak in the discussion round. It's not like that whosoever speaks first gets selected. Everyone got the chance to speak in the end by the panelists. So don't panic and wait for your chance to speak and speak with confidence.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Written test (30 min & 50 questions which included- 25 core and 25 gen aptitude questions).
Duration: 30 minutes
Total Questions: 50

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Shortlisted candidates had a GD
Tips: Be prepared for anything. GD topics can be very different and generally one cannot be aware of all possible topics and be prepared. So confidence and clarity of thought during the GD is important.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: The candidates were further shortlisted for interview

General Tips: It was Challenging. Interview was a fun experience, it lasted for 5 minutes and I got the job while those with 45 min didn't. The only tech question was - define 'pressure'.

College Name: NIT SURATHKAL

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Round 1 consisted of a test (both aptitude & technical) & a psychometric analysis. The difficulty level was low and with a little bit of preparation of subjects such as Machine Design, SOM & manufacturing processes, it could be cracked.
Tips: Do read the books! Mainly SOM, manufacturing, Thermal Engg. (IC engine & automobile engg for automobile sector)

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Round 2 consisted of a GD alone. Our topic was “Smart cities is just a dream or could be a reality.” They were thoroughly judging the candidates in this round as the same HRs were taking PIs too. I would suggest to behave well and maintain the decorum of a GD. Most of my batch mates were shouting and none of them was listening, so I took control and urged them to speak serial wise. Then I gave some valid points supporting the future reality of smart cities.
Tips: Reading newspaper is a must. then watch videos on how to behave in a GD. Speak valid points and let other people speak.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Only one interview was held, which consisted both technical and a bit of HR. I was mainly asked about automobiles and their parts since I had mentioned about my project (Fabricated a Student F1 car) in my cv. Most of the questions were from my cv(about catia). Later the completely shifted to the management side and gave me situations of which I had to suggest solutions. For eg. I was asked what would I do being in charge of operations dept., If the workers under me refused to work siting poor raw material as reason.
I said, I’ll try to convince the workers to continue production, and will report the case of poor raw material to respective departments. In case they don’t take any action, I’ll report the issue to higher authorities.

Tips: Do read the books! Mainly SOM, manufacturing, Thermal Engg. (IC engine & automobile engg for automobile sector). Do read the Newspaper on daily basis for clearing GD rounds. And, improve your communication skills and feel confident.

Skills: Personality, Technical Questions, 1)communication skills, Management Skills
College Name: NIT Hamirpur
