Interview Preparation Tips

Round: HR Interview
Experience: If you manage to clear the technical round then its PDM round which is said to be most difficult to get the offer letter. The PDM round is usually taken by a senior delivery manager and he can ask you some technical as well hr questions. Please pay extra attention while replying to the

questions because they try to confuse you a lot. Some questions are like :-

a) Why you are leaving your current job?

b) Why you left your previous jobs?

c) Who else in the family? If you belong to business family, do you have plan to join the business later?

d) What are your expectations ?If you say good work, please note you are most probably going to get hired on bench and manager taking the interview is clueless about that. He might pretend that you will off course get the work of your choice but that totally your sheer luck.

e) Salary expectations? They generally offer a less hike but I have heard several stories like HR doesn't have proper communication of package offered by manager in PDM round. HR will get back to you with offer letter solely on their discretion (if you clear) and there you can negotiate as well. Don't emphasize much on package in PDM round because IBM Managers usually won't appreciate it because of policies and guidelines.

Induction

Once you accept the offer letter and join the IBM, they usually carry out the Induction program at Noida branch no matter what is your preferred location. If

you are moving from out of NCR they advice to take hotel or plan the stay. Induction is of about 5 days may not be continuous.

On Bench -Reporting Location

If you are on bench, you can go to any IBM office.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: HR Interview
Experience: I was little nervous and was eagerly waiting for my turn to come as I wanted to get out of this anxiety as soon as possible. After half an hour my name was announced and I was escorted by one Infosys official to one of the lecture halls where the interview was going on and he asked to me to sit outside until I am called inside. Waiting outside and praying to the almighty, I was preparing for my best. Making my formal dress proper every now and then and setting my hairs as they were too long. Finally, I was called inside. I took my credentials in the right hand and slowly opened the door and said, ‘May I come in, Sir’ with a little smile on my face. As he granted me permission, I went inside and saw that there was only one person inside who would take my interview. He was a man of about 45 wearing spectacles ad a long blue coat. He asked me to sit down. I took my seat. Then he took sheet of my application form and asked:
Sir: I have seen that email-address of the people reflect their personality. I think the same is in your case. Why have you chosen your email address as *****
Me: Sir, surfing net is one of my hobbies and whenever I do it, I do it with calm and relax mind. I enjoy surfing net and do not take any worries or tensions while doing it. That is why I have chosen it.
Then he gave me a sheet of paper to mark the attendance. I have to write my name, roll number and the time of interview there.
Sir: Please make your attendance on the sheet.
Everything was good but when it came to fill the time, I realized that I had forget to carry my watch. The second option was to take out my mobile phone from the pocket and see the time. I slowly took out the mobile from the pocket, but unfortunately I had switched it off before. I was helpless, but I applied a trick. The person who had given the interview before me had written the time as 5:45 pm. So, I made a guess that it would have been probably 5 minutes after his interview. So, I wrote 5:50 pm. As I handed over the sheet to him, he said that it is not 5:50 pm it is 6:05pm and he corrected that himself with his red pen. I apologized for that blunder. Then he asked for my resume. Looking into the resume questionnaire started again:

Sir: Your percentage has been going consistently down. You got 86% in 10th, 75% in 12th and 67.3% in engineering so far. What is the reason behind this?
Me: Sir, in case of matriculation and 12th we have confined syllabus and we have particular text books for the syllabus. We have to just stick to our text books for the final exams and get marks. But in case of engineering the concept is totally different. The syllabus is scattered and we have to search variety of books in order to get the complete syllabus. By all efforts we manage to find about 90% of the syllabus. Out of this 90% we are able to learn only 80% .Out of this 80% we are able to attempt only 70% in the exams and examiners are not so kind they will full marks. Out of these 70% we get 60% marks.
Hearing to this explanation of mine he smiled a bit.
Then he looked into my extra-curricular activities where I had mentioned, I am currently working as editor in India’s top ranked educational site www.indiastudychannel.com and acting as webmaster of www.himachalspider.com.
Then he continued:

Sir: What is this India Study Channel about? What all you do in this site?

Me: I said it is basically an educational site helping students all over India. I am working on this site basically to improve my writing skills. I love writing articles and I post my articles on this site.

Sir: Tell me the most recent article which you have written in this site.

At that moment as if everything vanished from my mind. I was not able to recall even single article of mine. After putting pressure for about 15 seconds, finally I recalled it.

Me: Sir, the most recent article which I had posted is with title Why are we all excited to know our future?

Sir: What all have you written in this article?

Me: Sir, I have explained in this article that these days we can see many people call themselves fortune tellers and dupe ordinary men. People sitting by the road side guarantee to tell the future for just few bucks. Does this make any sense? Can a person predict your future for just few bucks and make your life better. If it is so, then why isn’t he able to make his future prosperous? ……..
Sir: What is your role as a webmaster in Himachalspider?
Me: Sir, it is right now in the developing stage. I am trying to make it popular by posting good content. My basic aim is to make the best site which can provide every information searched on Google related to Himachal.
Sir: That is all Mr. Rohit. You can leave now.
Me: Thank you very much sir.
I left my seat and went outside. I internally felt that, I gave my best and it was good from my side. I was feeling very much confident then.
After two hours of calculation process, the results were announced and I was among the selected candidates. It was really a moment of great ecstasy to me and all my selected fellow friends. I am a Infosian now.

1 Interview Round

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: HR Interview
Experience: All the participants were at the site before time as no one can take risk of being late & losing the opportunity. But the strange thing was that the interviewers were not there on time. There may be some reason for that but they were about 1.5 hr late at the site. As they arrived at the site they directly came to the hall in which people were sitting & waiting for them. Immediately they announced that everybody had to pay Rs.1000 on the spot. They didn't tell any reason for that. Everybody was shocked hearing it & all were looking at them with confusion that that was first interview they were going to face where they had to pay for that. After about one minute the interviewers told that it was a joke to make the people wake up & smile in the early morning then they said that it is the first ability of an RJ to attract the people with their words. Then they started taking people one by one in the interview room.
As my name was announced I entered the room.
Me: May I come in sir?
He: yes please come in.
He: please have a seat.
Me: Thank you sir.
He: Your name please.
Me: My name is Krunal Patel, sir.
He: So Mr Krunal what do you do?
Me: Sir I am a Student of Pharmacy in the pharmacy institute in this city.
He: Tell me something about your college.
Me: (as I could see he was trying to get the things in a very different manner which we don't usually express in any interview).I said the one & only institute in the city situated on the bank of the river. Technology in the lap of nature. Its really good to be there. (I said as I could find proper in that situation there. It may be different for other.)
He: That's cool.
Me: Thank you sir.
He: Ok Krunal you are in a field which involves something like medicines, patients & here we are serving music to the public with some cool & light entertainment. Don't you think it is an odd combination for you?
Me: (A very tough situation for me to handle, I tried to make some Intermediate way instead of being specific.) Sir, I am interested in music. What I am doing now is what I had to select be default but now what I have opportunity to do what I am interested in. In fact I also know music. I am not that bad at singing. In 10th std I had taken music as optional subject.
He: (going more deep in my interest) What do you know about music, what type of music you know?
Me: Well I like any kind of music. I know classical also.
(Then we talked on classical music which was easy to handle)
He: What colour pent have you worn?

Me: (A sudden change in topic. Perhaps he was trying to get things in a 'Hatke' manner) Grey colour, sir.
He: Is it old or new?
Me: Its new, sir.
He: But its colour has become dull from front as well as back (I was wearing a monkey wash type of pent)
Me: It's a design & running fashion, sir

He: What have you paid for that?
Me: Rs 1500
He: Oh. Don't you think you have paid more for it? I mean look at my pent. Uniform colour, denim blue shade just for Rs 500.
Me: Hutke price for Hutke thing, sir. It's as simple as it is.
He: I am impressed. Ok tell me how am I?
Me: (again a very tough question for me I was confused. Should I say only the good thing or also say something which was not too impressible..?!?!) Sir, you are a person with good nature & have a smooth way of talking which doesn't make a person nervous & that's what a person is supposed to have to be at the stage where you are. But you have very short hair on your head. Little more long hair will give you better look. And you also have somewhat heavy body. Slimmer body will give even better look.
He: Oh. No body observed me like this before. I will definitely try to act upon your suggestion. Thank you so mush. It was nice talk with you.
Me: It's my pleasure, sir. Thank you so much sir.
With this I came to the end of my first interview. I didn't include name of my city, that multiplex, my college, river because I didn't think them to be important any more here. I don't know how I performed But at the end I could see satisfaction on the face of that person & I was happy. You are welcomed to tell me how I did there.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: HR Interview
Experience: One of the lady interviews threw the first question at me "Do you see that picture behind you? What common thing do you find in it?" I observed it carefully and answered that they were pictures of girl students. Then she further asked me about my views on "Girl Education". I was prepared for it and I answered all that common lines that "Girls are equal to boys....they should be given same education...Educational reforms should be made to supplement their education etc." Then I was asked what my favourite subject was, which I gleefully replied "Maths". The ball was thrown in the Maths' Interviewer's court. He asked me questions from "Polynomials". The questions were "What are the roots of a quadratic equation?" I answered with some hesitation but the answer was correct. Then was the tricky one "How many roots are there in a cubic equation?" I was confused but I randomly answered "Three", which was correct.
Then came the turn of the Geography instructor. Firstly she inquired about Geography being one of my favorite subjects or not. It was not but I courteously replied "Yes". Then she asked me a streak of questions which I had no clue about. The first one was "What are the different types of volcanoes?"; Then "Difference between U shaped and V shaped valley" and she had the globe in her hand and pinpointed to some place. Then she asked me "Which country is it?" I had no clue at all!!
Then came the turn of Physics instructor. He asked me about Quantization of charge and why do the Sky looks blue while the leaves look green?. I mugged up the first one but the second one was easy to answer.
Then again it came back to the general discussion. They asked me What I wanted to become after growing old? I replied "Engineer" which was counter-attacked by "Why not a doctor as your father is also a doctor"? I replied that I had no interest in Medicine and that Science and Maths amused me more.
Finally the last question was "Name some women/ girl children who have made their parents proud?". I replied "Kalpana Chawla, Sunita Williams, Indira Gandhi, Mayawati, Sania Mirza". The answer Mayawati made them laugh a lot.
So the interview commenced and terminated in a joyous mood. It was not so bad but I got 17/25. I failed to qualify for NTSE by a meagre 2 marks thanks to the seats reserved for SC,ST and OBC. I was an 8th class student at that time but the questions wee beyond 10th class. SST wretched my ship. But thank god they did not include English Literature as a subject. All is well that Ends Well and I hope that this was just the beginning of my journey.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: HR Interview
Experience: My Interview experience with Reliance BPO
Hi ,
This was the very first Interview experience of my life. I was doing my B-Tech at that time then I thought to join some BPO as a part time job and earn some money. So I registered with some consultants in Mohali then they sent me the interview details and on the day I reached with my resume and my document file.
The Experience was really good, as the lady (interviewer) seemed to be very much impressed from me and my qualifications and that too she was in a doubt whether I will surely join the BPO or not.
Here is the detail as far as I remember:-
I asked for the permission to come inside the room.
Got the same.
Me : Good Afternoon Mam
HR : Good Afternoon.
HR : Why are you applying for a BPO job, although you are a B-Tech with a very good academic score?
Me : I want to work and earn something. I think that having a job in hand before moving out of college is something different from others.
HR : Are you aware of the work culture of any BPO?
Me : Not Exactly.
HR : Will you be comfortable with the shifts?
Me: I said Yes, surely. Keeping in mind about the shifts, I appeaered for this interview.
(Then she asked some personal information about family background)
HR : You have excellent grades in your previous exams , why don't you try for software companies instead ?
Me : Mam, I am not yet eligible for those offers. If I will get chance in future, I will go for it.
HR : Do you mean that if you get an offer form some company you would not join us.
Me : Yes.
HR: Shall we proceed with your typing skill test?
Me: Sure Mam.
Then she gave me a note and asked me to type the same within a minute. I passed that test successfully. She was impressed again.
HR: Salary Expectations?
Me: 10,000 minimum.
She said I am offering you 8,000. But I negotiated with her and then at last we both agreed with 9,000. She discussed the details with me and she handed over me the offer letter.
HR: Hope to see you soon at workplace.
HR : Thank You . You may leave now.
Me : Thank You very much Mam for your time.

General Tips: It is not difficult to get into the BPO just show them that you are confident and fluent in speaking English.

3 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: I have reached the venue 30 minutes early to avoid last minute rush. It was a consultancy, hiring partner of HP. Some of the candidates were already waiting in the lobby. I registered my name with security guard and started waiting for my turn.

First round in HP is a written test. I found it myself little convenient because i was well prepared. Finally written test had begun and it was divided into 5 parts

A. General Maths

B. Logical Reasoning

C. Accountancy

D. English

E. Email writing.

The written test went smooth for me. Except in the Logical Reasoning section,i performed well in other sections. Logical Reasoning was a tricky section.

General Maths section to some extent was based on the basics of High School. One can do well if he remembers the basics. Accountancy section also had basic questions which we have learned at our First year Pre-University level. Then the English section. It was filled with grammar questions. Eventually Email Writing. The one who do well in the English section will also do well in the Email section. Because both these sections are two faces of a coin. In this section recruiters mainly check out our sentence construction abilities and certain email etiquette. This is the end of first round.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: I was waiting to know the results of a first round. Those were really tensed moments. After 30 minutes HR coordinator came to us and announced the names of the candidates those who were cleared the first round. I was one amongst them.

We were informed that second round was going to be the HR round and HR executive from the HP company itself was coming to take the interview. The HR came and started the interview. After 4 candidates my turn came. I was little nervous. I entered the room. Here is the conversation.

I: Good Afternoon Ma'am.

HR: Good Afternoon. Take your seat please.

I: Thank you.

HR: Well, you are MR. Hemanth. am i right ?

I: Yes Ma'am.

HR: How are you Hemanth ?

I: I am fine, thank you. How about you ma'am ?

HR: Oh. I am fine too, thanks.

HR: Fine, tell me something about you. your family, your educational background, etc..

I: I introduced myself to her and briefed about family, education and interests.

HR: Fair enough.

HR: Do you know anything about BPO ?

I: Yes ma'am. It is a acronym for Business Process Outsourcing. The advanced countries in the Europe, especially United States, came up with this idea to over come the shortage of skilled human resource in their country. Their focus was mainly on India because they knew India is a pool of skilled and cheap laborers. In fact, right now i am in the process of getting a job just because of this BPO.

HR: Good.

HR. Do you know what HP does ? what is its major functional areas ?

I: Yes ma'am. Founded in 1939 by two young Stanford Graduates, Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, it is now a major technology company. HP's products range from printers to computer monitors; scanners to enterprise software; mobile phone to laptop and many more. It operates in number of business verticals such as; imaging & printing group, enterprise software, servers & storage and recently into financial services.

HR: Good. Well articulated.

I: Thank you ma'am.

HR: You can wait outside. We will announce the result soon.

I: Sure. Nice to meet you.

HR. Nice to meet you too.

Here comes the end of second round. It was precise and lasted for just 8 minutes. Results were announced and i was delighted to know that i was through. They gave me the third and final round details. It was scheduled next day in the HP company itself.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The road for HP was half traveled. It was Operations round that day. We were informed earlier that operation manager from the respective teams would be taking the interview.

I have reached the company 20 minutes early and gave my resume to the HR coordinator. After 30 minutes the HR called my name. I entered the manager's cabin with unknown uneasiness. Here is the conversation.

I: Good Afternoon sir.

Manager: Good Afternoon. Well, Hemanth relax yourself and be cool.

I: Okay thank you sir.

Manager: (He glanced at my resume) Fine, today i will be asking you questions based on Accountancy. Before that i want you to introduce yourself.

I: Definitely sir. I introduced myself with all details regarding education, family and hobbies.

Manager. Well. Tell me the golden rules of accounting ?

I: Sure. For real account; Debit what comes in and Credit what goes out. For personal account; Debit the receiver and Credit the giver. For nominal account; Debit all expenses and losses and Credit all incomes and gains.

Manager: Fine. What is Prepaid Expenses ?

I: The expenses which we pay before they are due for the payment are Prepaid expenses. It is an asset.

Manager: Good. What is contingent liabilities.

I: The liabilities which may or may not occur. Those are called contingent liabilities.

Manager: which side of the balance sheet does closing stock come ? And under what category ?

I: It comes in the credit side of the balance sheet and it comes under Trading and Profit & Loss account.

Manager: Good. What is Depreciation ? How to calculate it ?

I: Depreciation is a process wherein the value of the asset will be decreasing gradually due to ware & tare and usage. We have various methods to calculate depreciation such as, straight line method, diminishing value method etc.

Manager: Fine. Hmm, tell me the journal entry for purchase returns ?

I: Cash account debit

Seller account credit.

Manager: Pretty well Hemanth. It was nice talking to you. We will get back to you within two or three days over a phone or by an email.

I: Okay. Thank you so much sir. Have a nice day.

Manager: You too.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: HR Interview
Experience: I would like to share my interview experience for the post of Technical Support Executive with Sutherland Global Services a leading company in BPO industry. It is my first interview experience when I was out of college.
I was interviewed when I went to a campus interview in an Engineering college near my hometown.
First, the HR involved in the recruitment process called the candidates in groups of 4, gave a common topic and asked each person to speak for a few minutes about the topic. Her primary focus was on verbal communication skills with no mother tongue accent in Speech.
When she announced the name of the candidates selected for the next round, I was overjoyed to see that I was one among the very few people who cleared the initial screening.
Then she put me on phone to attend a technical round of interview which is as follows.
Me: Hello
Interviewer: Hi. Tell me about yourself?
Me: Told about me, my qualification, percentage of marks etc.
Interviewer: Can you explain me the components of a Computer
Me: CPU, Motherboard, RAM, Hard disc, SMPS, Drives
Interviewer: What is an Operating System?
Me: It is a Software interface between the hardware and the User.
Interviewer: In which of the operating systems you have a working knowledge?
Me: Windows XP, DOS, 98
Interviewer: Which is the Primary memory of a computer?Me: RAM
Interviewer: Which is the secondary memory of a computer?
Me: Hard disk drive
Interviewer: Which part would you check first when you have a problem in display?
Me: First will check the monitor, if it is working fine then the VGA and RAM
Interviewer: What is a SMPS?
Me: It stands for Switch mode power supply. It is used to convert an unregulated power supply to regulated supply.
Interviewer: What would you do to increase the display quality of your PC?
Me: Add a VGA card to the system.
Interviewer: Where would you connect that?
Me: To the PCI slot in the mother board.
Interviewer: What is NIC?
Me: Network Interface Card
Interviewer: What is the use of that?
Me: It is used to connect a computer to a Network.
Interviewer: Good, It was nice Speaking with you. Please hand over the phone to the HR.
Me: Sure. Thank you.
After an hour the HR said that I am shortlisted and I need to come to Chennai for another round of interview.
In Chennai I was asked to undergo an online test which consisted on questions in Aptitude, analytical reasoning, logical reasoning and English Grammar and I cleared that too. Finally I cleared the HR round and got my offer letter for an annual payout of Rs. 1,70,000 along with lot of other incentives and benefits. However I did not prefer to join as I learnt from my seniors that the work culture was not good and they have long working hours without breaks.

General Tips: A general advice for people aspiring a carrier in BPO sector is, try to have at least a fair communication skill with at least conversational ability with no accent of regional language in it.

Soon acouple of them started verifying our documents and certificates, one by one.The actual interview started some time later. Those who had their documentsverified were called first. With bated breath, everyone started waiting fortheir turns. Because of the apparent nervousness in the air, we were hardlyspeaking to each other. Some of the candidates were even referring their books.A few of us had to go outside, to getduplicatecopies of ourtestimonials and certificates. The board members were very particular about thedocuments. They were checking each and every relevant document and details withminutest care. They were ensuring that in each of our semesters we had scoredmore than 70% marks. Date of birth and character certificates were beingchecked too.The agonizingwaitThe interviews were each lasting 30 minutes or so. That was making us moretensed. I was wondering how I will survive for 30 long minutes with theinterview board. But then I assured myself that it's not the end of the world.Whatever happens, I will sustain and I will strive to give mybest. Thishelped me in keeping my cool and patiently wait for my turn to come. At last, after hours of waiting, my turn was about to come. It was 2:30 p.m. and we hadnot taken our lunch. Right at that moment, the board decided that everyone willgo for lunch and return by 3 p.m. It was not to my liking. I was eager tofinish the interview first. Moreover, since my turn was next, I was instructedto finish my lunch at the earliest. We were given lunch coupons, but they werenot meant to be used in the same hotel. The coupons were for some restaurantlocated outside the hotel premise. I hurried towards the restaurant. But had towait for my order to materialize. I simply gobbled up the food and rushed backfor the interview. Without giving me any further time, they simply shoved meinside the room, where my fate was finally going to be decided.
