Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Everyone was given two minutes of time to speak. It was more of an extempore rather than a group discussion. We were given the freedom to choose a topic among ourselves, failing to do so a topic was given by the Chair. The group strength was of 15 students each.
Tips: It is better to outperform in group discussion and get noticed. It makes you half selected. Try to touch technical, social and economical aspects of the given topic. A prior preparation on current trending topics will help you push further.
Duration: 10 Min minutes

Round: Behavioural Interview
Experience: Questions relating to your interest in the field were asked. The theme was based on why you want to join con India. Basic Tech Questions on Projects and Internship. The panel consisted of 10 Members.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: The shortlist was based on your resume. I just mentioned all the curricular and extra curricular activities i have taken part in till date.
Tips: Stress the points where you have taken some initiatives to drive the education for all the young brains and your previous teaching experiences.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The interview lasted for about 30 minutes. As i am interested in teaching Chemistry, some questions related to my clarity in subject were asked. Also things such as previous teaching experiences, interest in education sector and communication skills were tested .
Tips: Make sure that you mention all the points related to your passion for promoting education in your CV. The interviewer was very friendly. Just open up and speak.

Round: Presentation
Experience: Some students were selected from the 1st round of interviews. In this round, you have to give a lecture for about 10 mins on any topic of your interest in Chemistry to all the shortlisted candidates and the panel which came for the interview, followed by questions related to your lecture. I wasn't aware of this round till i entered the room and haven't got some time to prepare. I gave a brief introduction of all the topics in Chemistry and why chemistry shouldnot be percieved as some alien subject. The panel was pretty impressed by my presentation and wished me soon after the round was over.
Tips: Choose a topic which you are comfortable with. For the next 10 mins, the hall is yours. :)

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Few students were selected for HR interview (Final round). Some basic questions about strength's and weaknesses, family background were asked.
Tips: Keep it cool and frank. :)

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Resumes are shorlisted based on GPA of 8.5 for Computer Science and Mathematics and Computing and 9.0 for Electronics and Electrical Engineering Students.

Round: Test
Experience: Questions were individually timed, and were a blend of very simple, interesting and tough questions. Most of them are based on Probability and Random Processes or Combinatorics. Some of them would be solvable by geometrical techniques, some by reduction and some by mere brute force!
Tips: I would recommend revising probability and permutations and combinations. If really interested, a book on Algorithmic Puzzles by Levitin and Levitin might help.
Duration: 120 minutes

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: The interview rounds consist of 6-7 telephonic interviews (on your mobile, so try to have a good connection) from different WQ offices around the world. Also, they start sharp at the time allotted (in my case, they started at 4 AM and I was late!), so be sure to be ready at the time.

Each round is of about 25 mins, with a 3 min chat about resume and the rest on puzzles/questions. About 2-3 puzzles can be asked during that time. The problems are algorithmic puzzles of the same kind but slightly tougher than those in the test. I recall one question that was solvable by application of Markov Chains, another was a variation of the Binary Search Algorithm.

There is no HR round!
Tips: The questions are tough, but you need to remember they are tough for everyone. The interviewer is more interested in your approach than your solution. So, keep talking to him while you attempt to work out the solution. He would keep providing you hints and help to get through those problems. Also, there are some very simple questions thrown in between tough questions, try to not get those wrong.

General Tips: Be conversant in algorithms and quantitative analysis.
Skills: Algorithms And Data Structures, Algorithmic Approach To Problem Solving, Quantitative Aptitude, Quant+Math
College Name: IIT Kharagpur
Motivation: Good work (if interested in mathematics and algorithms), opportunity to learn, good money
Funny Moments: I was late on morning of December 1, but since WQ had telephonic interview, the first interviewer called me when I was still cycling to the placement center in my institute. So, I had to park my cycle in the middle of the road. And my first interview was with me sitting on the ground near my hall in Kharagpur.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Coding round was done on hackerrank .

1. Given two numbers a and b, find kth digit from right of  a^b. (Naïve method will only help you to pass half of the test cases)

2. Second question was based on reducing a given expression in its smallest form and printing lexicographically smaller expression.

3. You are provided with n and m values which denote the rows and columns. Rajesh starts at top most cell (0, 0).  He will not visit the visited cell.

a. He moves to the point towards his right

b. If he cannot move one point to the right, he rotates right and then takes the path to the right

c. If after performing 4 rotate operations, if he cannot move then he would stop

Print the number of cells visited by him.

Sample 1:

3 3

Output: 9

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: There were 62 people who were called for GDs, the shortlisting criteria was CGPA > 6.5, it seems everyone was called whoever applied. Accordingly groups were made, 9 people/group, prior to me there were 3 groups, even for them topics were general : Media, Corruption not aware of last one. GDs were being held early morning; so, many people didn't turn up and few were placed in prior companies; so, later groups were formed in number < than required, 9 people/group.
In my group there were 6 people; 2 mins. were given to prepare & 6 mins. to debate/discuss as per topic. 6 mins. because we were 6 people in the group earlier groups were given 9 mins. as they were 9 people, basically 1 min/person. Language was not the barrier you can speak in any language you are comfortable with: English, Hindi or Hinglish.
I started the discussion in English with a quote, regarding technology. Everyone else started supporting the positive aspects of Social_Media, so it became more of discussion rather than being a debate, with time it ended peacefully. I was the one who concluded it, because I spoke a lot, reason being others didn't speak much. It was piece of cake for me, because I have cleared GDs of few other companies whom I was shortlisted.
Tips: Don't worry about the language, they don't have any fixed points for English/Hindi/Hinglish. They check your confident, be confident and speak related to your topic. Taking initiatives in beginning/ending of GDs rewards you with extra points. Begin if you have clear cut idea about the topic, don't let anyone cut your point in the beginning only. Don't be nervous and don't raise voice against your fellow people, it can lead to direct rejection. If you can't speak much, atleast make sure you speak 2-3 points, good points, because as time passes by people are done with their points, so points starts repeating, at that instant think out of the box; quotes related to your topic may help.
Duration: 6 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: I was one of the 9 people who were shortlisted from 34 students who turned up for GDs, rest being absent or placed in earlier companies. The interview was good, because after being rejected in interviews of earlier companies, 5 being the number in my case, atleast you get to know your résumé in detail. They asked me many things from my résumé and few things related to Strength of Materials (easy GATE questions); I could answer them.
Tips: The questions are simple, you just need to think little bit and speak your mind out. Read basic things related to your specialization and if your specialization is not Mechanical System Design, then please read few basic things related to it. I read DESIGN basics because my specialization was not Mechanical System Design; I was from Thermal Science & Engineering, don't worry about it, we are NO LESS than them.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Describing oneself is the best part of an interview, you brag about yourself and why won't you? you have kept your efforts to reach there. After appearing for many interviews got to know being diplomat works, but being you is what matters. Never lie to yourself, they can see it from your face. Even if you lie, then follow this: “If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.” ― Adolf Hitler. In my interview I did both, was diplomat at places and was me in other. Had a smiling face and confidence in oneself. I got lucky, because there was one opening for my specialization and I was the only one from my specialization. In the end they gave me an option to chose between Design and Testing, I just said if I would be in likes with Design I would have taken admission in best IITs (B,D,M,K or KGP), my GATE rank was very good; Instead, I would go for testing profile. They just said one thing, you do what you like, that's good.
Tips: Believe in yourself and be you. Don't fear if you have to lie, lie with confidence, in this world who doesn't ? Know about company before you make strong decisions, like as I said choosing between Design/Testing? I asked my senior working in Escorts Agri Machinery, he said you can chose anything after training, that's why I chose Testing, because there were good no. of students competing for Design seat and I had no chance to stand among them. Be smart ! Be You ! Don't forget: One Day, One Company & One You, its a Big Plan it will happen. Keep Working. Hope, it Helps. All the Best !

General Tips: Be confident and don't worry about the competition, prepare well and believe you are the best. Don't be nervous after seeing the interviewer, be who you are.
Skill Tips: Any language you speak, speak with confidence. Answer everything with a confidence, even if its wrong.
Skills: Verbal Communication Skills, Confidence
College Name: IIT Kharagpur
Motivation: It was core engineering job, R&D profile, it best suited me.
Funny Moments: After few minutes of talk: HR said you talk like an Entrepreneur, we were thinking of absorbing you in Hydraulics & Transmission Profile, but you even suit in Product Manager Profile, we are confused which profile to select you 'IN'. It was LOL moment.

6 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The tests are held using the platform of Cocubes. First section has HR questions such as "why Axtria?" and other stuff. I don't think its really necessary and I presume that nobody looks at it. The sections 2, 3 and 4 are fairly easy. But since the test is easy, you should also keep this in mind that the cutoff might be high. The coding section had basic question of C, C++ and Java. Don't worry even if you don't know java. All in all, the questions are very "do-able" and one should easily crack them.
Tips: I'd advice aspirants to go through the concepts of OOPs; just a brief glance at it, not necessarily mastering it. There's no negative marking, so try attempting all the questions. Also the test is of 2 hours with 60 minutes for sections 2, 3 and 4.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: The GD round is quite simple. A group is formed of 8-10 people. Everyone gets a chance to speak, unless it's your bad day with a cartoon character in the same group with you.
One person didn't really want, but was forced to appear for the selection process. So from the very beginning, he was trying for a "suicide". So there was a bit of negation in arguments which might have killed us all. But the interviewers really want everyone to put up their points and gave equal opportunities.
Before proceeding with your points, each of us had to introduce ourselves and then put up our points. There was a lot of desperation in my GD, so there were moments when people were actually arguing. So one really had to grab their chance when speaking.
The other groups had topics like, "Social media in daily life", "Pros and cons of using Cloud", etc. Their GD was very methodical, everyone speaking turn by turn and in the end anyone was asked to conclude the session.
In the end, about 2 people are eliminated, so in order to fail, you really have to suck at public speaking. Otherwise, take it for granted that you're going through for the next round.
Tips: I'd suggest people to have a go at number 3 or 4, once you've gauged the nature of the discussion. Try to put up all your points very briefly, giving an example or two. Don't negate other people's arguments and agree with people who's thoughts are in line with yours. Even if you want to negate others, do it very subtly. Try to be involved as much as possible. Be the best listener, moderate the GD when you're not active and when you're speaking, be very confident.
Duration: 10-12 minutes

Round: Guesstimate Interview
Experience: Since I did not have any background in analytics, the interviewer had to ask me other questions. At first she asked me about statistics, which I was not really confident about. At this point, I was almost certain to crash out. But luckily, the next question she asked me was the above guesstimate. This being one of my stronger skills, was quite OK for me, and I handled this question well enough. The interviewer was quite impressed with my approach and was smiling as if advertising for Colgate, at the end of the interview. This instilled some confidence in me, that I was going through, at least for this round. But this was, as one would say, lady luck, saving me. Other candidates, who had a background in analytics, were asked only about their previous internships (not too technical).
Tips: If you have a background in analytics, then just go through all your projects. If you do not have any such skills, then brush up your guesstimates. Other person who was like me, was asked to estimate the time after which a boiler needed maintenance (he was from Mechanical). Another guy was asked how would one determine that a person is fraud or not; if he withdrew about 10K in first three months and then 50K in the 4th month, from his credit card. So case-study and guesstimates are a must if you don't have analytics on your CV.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: There was a panel of 3 interviewers. Other candidates (analytics guys) were simply asked to convince them that they would work for the company for the foresee-able future. I, on the other hand, was asked to convince them, why I am the guy for Axtria. I had to defend myself, for having internships in different backgrounds and how would I be suitable for analytics. Then they asked me that since I had worked in an logistics company, why did not I go for my own start-up. Again I said a few things, which was basically running around, why do I want to work for Axtria. Luckily, I managed to convince them in the end. But still I did not have that good a feeling about this round. When asked about higher studies, I told them that I had plans but not in the near future.
Tips: This one was pretty dependent on how you'd defend your CV. But otherwise, it should be a very simple experience for analytics guys. Axtria goes for elimination rather than selection in its process. So unless you really suck at giving interviews, you can give yourself a fair chance of getting selected. Also, since they have a 3 month long training period, it is not really necessary that you have analytics on you CV. But for a guy like me, you have to be very convincing about yourself and make them believe that Axtria and you are a match made in heaven.

General Tips: If you're confident with conversing in English and are convincing enough, it shouldn't be really difficult. Also, the conversion rate is about 0.5 i.e. half of the shortlisted people are going to get selected. So there's no need to be nervous.
Skills: Data Analysis, Probability And Statistics, Guesstimation Cases
College Name: IIT Kharagpur
Funny Moments: After selection was complete, a girl asked: Sir, do we have to work on Sundays?

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: The entire process was very fair. They make a priority list on the basis of the resumes. They don't take much heed about your POR's. All they are looking for is some relevant work experience and/or courses and/or coding skills in the resume.
Tips: Case Study is a big plus. Other professional courses related to stats such as Actuary can help you become one of the top priorities.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: Firstly, I was asked to introduce myself. Then on the basis of the introduction he asked me to summarize one of the case study events that I have participated in. Interviewer made up a new case out of it and asked me a few more questions. One more case was asked which I was able to answer comfortably.
Tips: Don't get over excited. Be 100% genuine and confident.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: This round was a combination of Case Study + Guesstimate + Puzzle, duration 50 minutes. Firstly, a case study, which required some knowledge of operations, was given. Then the wallet problem followed by 2 puzzles were asked.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Just a resume shortlist. So, can't do much about it. But CG do matters. All those who got shortlisted were above 8
Tips: CG 8+ and highlight the qualities they need.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: It was a mix of technical and HR questions. Keep calm and try to answer to your best. Ask them the questions again and again if you don't understand at the first time.
Tips: Prepare the questions from glassdoor and have an idea about e-commerce and the profile you are applying for.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: This one was a mix of puzzles and HR questions. Again, try to show the fit into their work conditions. They expect you to work for 11 hrs a day.
Tips: Have a general idea about puzzles, etc. You can try "heard on the street"

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: It was puzzles + HR + core. Didn't expect the core part, but be prepared. Anything could be asked
Tips: Glassdoor, puzzles from internet, CV and partial core knowledge

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Didn't expect core. Alas, be prepared for everything. They were testing me how good I was at what I did in college for 4 years.
Tips: Be yourself. If you don't know something tell them and be prepared to tell them why you don't know. I didn't know about condensers, as I forgot. Told and explained him. Lastly, be confident.

General Tips: Prepare CV, HR and puzzles. These will be helpful throughout the placement season. Sort out which areas you want to apply and put in all the effort you could in the final sem. Don't even think you can do something in the last month(November), it will be too hectic because of BTP, endsems and company tests. Prepare well in advance and have a timetable and follow it strictly. Also, exhaustive preparation for CAT do helps in the tests for most of the companies.
Skills: Compatibility With Company, Analyzing And Problem Solving Skills, Adaptability, Puzzle Solving Capability, Management Of People And Situations, Core Mechanical Concepts
College Name: IIT Kharagpur
Motivation: It was basically a role where I would be working in teams and doing hands-on work. That was my only motive for applying.
Funny Moments: My mobile was vibrating in between the interview. I somehow managed to cut the call. :P
