Q. What is the difference between a 2-stroke and a 4-stroke engine?
Ans.

2 stroke engines have a simpler design and produce more power, while 4 stroke engines are more fuel efficient and have lower emissions.

  • 2 stroke engines have a power stroke in every revolution, while 4 stroke engines have a power stroke every other revolution.

  • 2 stroke engines do not have valves, while 4 stroke engines have intake and exhaust valves.

  • 2 stroke engines require a mixture of oil and fuel, while 4 stroke ...

Q. Three ants are positioned at the corners of a triangle. What is the probability that they will not collide if they randomly choose a direction to move along the sides of the triangle?
Ans.

The probability that ants at 3 corners of a triangle do not collide depends on their paths and speeds.

  • The probability can be calculated by considering the paths and speeds of the ants.

  • If the ants move in straight lines and at the same speed, the probability is 1/3.

  • If the ants move randomly and independently, the probability is difficult to determine without more information.

  • Factors like the size of the triangle, t...

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Just a resume shortlist. So, can't do much about it. But CG do matters. All those who got shortlisted were above 8
Tips: CG 8+ and highlight the qualities they need.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: It was a mix of technical and HR questions. Keep calm and try to answer to your best. Ask them the questions again and again if you don't understand at the first time.
Tips: Prepare the questions from glassdoor and have an idea about e-commerce and the profile you are applying for.

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: This one was a mix of puzzles and HR questions. Again, try to show the fit into their work conditions. They expect you to work for 11 hrs a day.
Tips: Have a general idea about puzzles, etc. You can try "heard on the street"

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: It was puzzles + HR + core. Didn't expect the core part, but be prepared. Anything could be asked
Tips: Glassdoor, puzzles from internet, CV and partial core knowledge

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Didn't expect core. Alas, be prepared for everything. They were testing me how good I was at what I did in college for 4 years.
Tips: Be yourself. If you don't know something tell them and be prepared to tell them why you don't know. I didn't know about condensers, as I forgot. Told and explained him. Lastly, be confident.

General Tips: Prepare CV, HR and puzzles. These will be helpful throughout the placement season. Sort out which areas you want to apply and put in all the effort you could in the final sem. Don't even think you can do something in the last month(November), it will be too hectic because of BTP, endsems and company tests. Prepare well in advance and have a timetable and follow it strictly. Also, exhaustive preparation for CAT do helps in the tests for most of the companies.
Skills: Compatibility With Company, Analyzing And Problem Solving Skills, Adaptability, Puzzle Solving Capability, Management Of People And Situations, Core Mechanical Concepts
College Name: IIT Kharagpur
Motivation: It was basically a role where I would be working in teams and doing hands-on work. That was my only motive for applying.
Funny Moments: My mobile was vibrating in between the interview. I somehow managed to cut the call. :P

In first round they asked me 2 coding questions where he asked me to code as close as possible to the actual one.

  • Q1.

Ninja and Sorted Array Merging Problem

Ninja is tasked with merging two given sorted integer arrays ARR1 and ARR2 of sizes 'M' and 'N', respectively, such that the merged result is a single sorted array w...

  • Ans.

Merge two sorted arrays into one sorted array in place.

    • Use two pointers to compare elements from both arrays and place them in the correct position in ARR1.

    • Start from the end of ARR1 and compare elements from both arrays, placing the larger element at the end of ARR1.

    • Continue this process until all elements from ARR2 are merged into ARR1.

  • Ans.

Find the smallest distance between two words in a document for multiple queries.

    • Iterate through the document array to find the indices of the two words in each query.

    • Calculate the absolute difference between the indices to get the distance.

    • If a word from the query is not present in the document, return the length of the document array.

    • Repeat the process for each query and output the smallest distance for each.

  • Ans.

The problem involves finding the number of distinct ways to climb to the Nth stair by taking one or two steps at a time.

    • Use dynamic programming to solve the problem efficiently.

    • The number of ways to reach the Nth stair is the sum of the number of ways to reach the (N-1)th stair and the (N-2)th stair.

    • Handle base cases for N=0 and N=1 separately.

    • Consider using modulo 10^9+7 to avoid overflow in calculations.
