4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Written q/s: was subjective, some coding q/s based on string manipulation and bits; language choice was given.
A subjective q/s on data storage was asked.
They shortlisted about 35 persons from this round

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: THERE WERE 2 ROUNDS OF TECHNICAL INTERVIEW
Tips: First Interview: Taken by a single interviewer; and asked q/s regarding databases:
- normalization
- Foreign keys
- Procedures, cursors etc
- Subject of interest: I had networking in mind; so I were asked questions on encryption, and protocols to use, to connect to databases across networks
- ER Diagram
- Data storage and hashing
They shortlisted 6 hereSecond Interview: Three recruiters together asked in depth q/s here. They gruelled me on Indexing, and how did I use that in my last sem project: basically, they look at your cv here and ask q/s based on what you have written. some more programs based on trees, and B Trees (I didn't know coding for B Trees; but they seemed satisfied even if you knew what B Tree is, and adding/deleting nodes)

Round: HR Interview
Tips: HR : that was general; one tip: don't contradict your own statements in HR rounds; and they are very good to make you do that. Finally 5 were selected.Interviews wasn't very tough; it was actually tougher to get to Mesra from Patna wink emoticonAll the best! Wiling to see some of you here

3 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: I went in for this company thinking that this would be my back-up option, but I was in for a huge surprise!
The test conducted was the weirdest one I have ever given, completely unexpected. It was mainly on English and Logical Reasoning, with about 4 questions from Data Interpretation. Compared to the paper set for the previous batch, it was tough.
Anyway, after being selected for the interview (surprise surprise)

Round: HR Interview
Experience: They asked me 2 basic questions-
1. What is your main goal in life?
2. How do you plan to achieve this through Cognizant?
Tips: I knew that all I had to portray was confidence. My advice - when you walk into ur interview, be bold, go shake hands with the guy, not many people expect it (this i realised during cognizant placement process). But yeah, don't speak crap, keep in mind that whatever you say makes sense.
When you talk about your goals, don't keep the interviewer in a loop, make your points clear and short. It shows that you know what you want and that you're focused. And whatever questions he asks, answer them! Don't say - 'Oh, I don't know'. For example: If he asks you the last book you read, don't say 'I don't read books' or 'I don't remember', it creates a negative effect. They want to see ur social side too! They need to see you have good communication skills. Hence, you need to reply back, even if u say it was some text book or some comic book. You need to show ur interested in talking to them. And don't get bummed out if u can't answer one or two questions, keep the confidence alive! And keep smiling smile emoticonPS - My personal advice to all core branch students - Please go for mass recruiters and reach the 85% barrier asap! It really helps other students alot! Don't ever consider any company beneath you!All the best smile emoticon

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: I went for this company, thinking I will surely get placed, but the written test was really a surprise package.
it consisted mainly of English, logical reasoning and data interpretation...test was really very tuff.Lost all hopes of getting selected..
early morning I got the news dat I was thru the test..surprise....
I was pretty confident for the interview.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Went on for interview, shake hands wid my interviewer..
first question he asked me was "do you know coding"
I said "no sir,I only have the theoretical knowledge"
nxt he asked "whats your favorite subject???"
my answer was networking,he asked me about the OSI layers...
interviewer had asked me only two questions..when you answer,do not beat around the bush, tell them directly what you know,or what you do not know...
Tips: Keep your confidence up,even if you don know the ans..regarding the HR side, they asked me about my hobbies...keep in my mind, before telling them about your hobbies, be prepared to ans questions related to them,ex:when i said basket ball,he asked me name who's your fav basket ball player"....alas keep smiling no matter whatever the situation may be.smile emoticon

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Written Consists of:
a. Aptitude (20 questions) 20 mins
b. OOPs (10 questions) 10 mins
c. C/Java/C# (20 questions) 20 mins
d. DBMS (10 questions) 10 mins
Tips: Cutoff was around 30 I think, and I got 31

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: GDs(2 Rounds)
Technical : Topics like : Entity, Overloading vs Overriding

Round: Technical Interview
Tips: Technical Interview : 2 programs were asked one from multi-threading and if I remember correctly an in-order traversal of trees. Some questions from OS and DBMS , String Manipulation and SQL queries

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Education system of BIT , Worst thing you’ve done in your life HR Interview : Why do you want to join misys ? What do you about the company? What other offers I had, and why was I leaving them. Lastly he told me to ask 5 questions
Tips: Lastly for any company I would suggest - go in with a clear mind, do not get bogged down by the burden of placements. Once you step into the corporate world there are going to be ample opportunities. Be true to yourself, never expect more than the effort you give in, and you will not be disappointed. Get your concepts cleared , try to teach people what you’ve learned. Believe me once you’ve taught a topic a couple of times you will never forget it. Your CGPA will only help you clear the Minimum Eligibility, after that all that matters is how much you have actually understood the subject. Try to concentrate on (C/Java , OS , DBMS , Data Structures) not just in the 7th semesters but from the very beginning. Be clear on your final year project, but most importantly CHILL and RELAX, Campus placements are not the end or beginning… If you have it in you, you will surely do well.Debanik Lahiri (2k8 batch)

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The process consisted of two rounds - first, Written Test and second, Interview (Technical and HR).Round 1: The written test had 75 questions and we were allotted 80 minutes for the same. There were four sections: Verbal, Analytical, Attention to Detail and Technical (C and Data Structures).First, there was the verbal section. Basically, questions on articles, synonyms and antonyms were asked. Two passages were also given and related questions were asked. The analytical section included questions from quant (set theory, data sufficiency, cubes, etc.) and Logical Reasoning.
The third section was the easiest and did not require any special preparation. From a group of patterns, we had to determine if they were alike or different.
The fourth was the technical section and had 5 questions each from C and DS. This was the toughest section.Time management is absolutely important. There were sectional cutoffs and so we had to clear each section.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Round 2: It was the PI round. First, we had the technical interview. Various questions on C and Data Structures were asked. I was also asked why being in EEE, I was interested in joining Verizon. Then I was asked to write a C program.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Next, we had the HR interview. Here, the usual questions mentioned above  were asked. Some of them were:Also, questions from what I had written in my CV were asked. On the whole, the interview went quite well. And finally, I was selected

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Round 1: Online aptitude test-50 marks(65 minutes).3 sections:
1. English-Passage based . Read once with attention and u can answer d questions fairly easily.
2. Quant: basically questions on sets and Venn diagrams.
3. Data interpretation and few more logical questions were there.
RS Aggarwal-verbal reasoning and quant is sufficient if u practice it well. Search for previous papers of HEADSTRONG on net, (this should actually be done for any company) u will get an idea of d kind of questions that are asked. Don’t stick to a question for long.
Tips: Around 80-85% students cleared it. Its easy to get through but ur score counts a lot.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Round 2: GD
Groups of 10 were made. Simple topics were given. Our topic was “is fashion important?”. u can put up ur points either for or against but make sure u don’t contradict ur own statement. stick to ur side. Don’t wait for a chance to be given. Speak as early as u can and don’t get out of d discussion if u have spoken once.try and be involved till d end.
4-5 were selected from each group.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Round 3: PI
I had 2 interviewers in my panel. Initially I was told to introduce myself and talk about my family background. Then questions related to project and training. This is very important. Then they asked me if I like to solve puzzles. I replied that I love to. I hardly understood d puzzle dat dey gave and showed my failed yet sincere efforts. Then HR questions like y to join this company, what do u expect from d company ,r u satisfied with d package, etc. Given the chance to ask questions I asked them to share their experience of d company.
Finally 7 were selected from patna campus, one of them being me.

4 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: So the process started at 6 AM in the morning with a written test. The paper consisted of 5 sections ,viz. Quant ,Reasoning,English, and two technical papers containing c,c++,dbms,ds,software engineering (No Negative marking).Time is an important factor to be kept in mind.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: The second phase consisted of GD in which I kept a neutral and diplomatic view on the topic. One small tip..Don't ever look at the HR people while presenting your views, rather think as if they are not present there.Don't be too agressive and wait for your turn to speak

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Then came the interview part.It consisted of HR and technical interview. The HR questions were all predictive in nature like...strength and weakness....where do you see yourself after 5 years..blah blah blah. One small tip...When asked about your weakness..try to to put your strength as weakness...I think you got what i am trying to say....
Tips: As I was from Non CS/IT background...so the technical interview was not much of trouble..Just drag them to your expertise area and beat them with your self fabricated logics...In my case they started with C and DBMS but i made them enter to my comfort zone.In a nutshell..simply command on any one of your favourite subjects like microprocessor, digital electronics,etc.....and rely on your LUCK....BEST OF LUCK
