Work culture and flexibility of work timing is awesome in TCS. Easy to find projects ..lot of onsite opportunities.

Dislikes

TCS is not a company for fresher's as the growth rate is very slow and pay as well. Don't expect don't much hike. Join the company as experienced Candidate for long service.

The best thing about TCS is the job security it offers. You can be pretty much secure about your job and work without the worry of loosing a job. Some very good seniors and peer also help you and support you throughout though they are less in number. Work life balance is good, you can easily have a personal life while working for the organization, rest depends on the project you are in but over all work is not too much. The worst part about the organization is the career growth and learning opportunities they offer you. Your personal ambitions are kept on the back seat and you may not be given appropriate training which you want. Your work is not decided based on what you are good at rather it is decided based on their requirements which many a times lead to improper resource management and even ruining one's career<mark style="background-color: #fff5e4;">. Also in recent times the compensation has been terrible with highest hike being given around 7%</mark>. Also the work culture mostly in tcs is to avoid or transfer the work to the others like passing the ball. Since 2014 TCS has improved its training options by providing subscriptions to SafariBooksOnline, Lynda and TCS internal platforms like Fresco play(also has T factor calculation measuring the breadth and depth of associate knowledge on various courses), TCS skillsoft, etc. Subscriptions to entertainment options are also provided like Magzster etc. Also, TCS provides good onsite opportunities for Indians as well unlike many other non-Indian competitors of similar service-based companies which are based in India where they try to give onsite only for few months...Read More

The notice period in TCS India is too high (3 months). This is made so high to reduce attrition rather than to ensure continuity of business by providing Knowledge Transfer(KT). If the company does not like an associate then it can terminate him by giving 3 months basic salary(not full-time salary) even if the employee wants to stay there and receive full-time salary during those 3 months</mark>. But if an associate has resigned from the company and wants to buyout the notice period then he needs prior approval from TCS When Bands(ratings) are given during H2(Oct-Mar) then people who do certifications obviously get better ratings. But some people who do extra activities(like IPMS, reminder emails about L&D, CML, etc) get better ratings rather than people who deliver quality work and better customer satisfaction because there is no differentiation between people who do average work and people who do good work (and take responsibility for the code they deliver)...Read More

Timings are sometimes rigid. When there is not much workload but still manager expects the Employee to stay in office for 9.5 hrs per day. But when workload is high and associate has spent more than 9.5hrs per day then manager will not try to compensate.

Good place to settle after couple of career jumps. Not ideal as a first company as the technical scope is limited and need to outperform lots of ppl to stand apart.

Dislikes

Appraisal and salary hike is very low compared to other companies of same standards. Last year max hike was 8% while other companies has their lowest hike percentage in two digits.
