It's a bag of mixed responsibilities. As in IISc, there are more than 50 departments, so the roles and responsibilities differ from department to department for the same post (i.e.TA), it majorly depends on the department that the kind of work they do. In some department, you may have to operate high end Lab equipments, in few it could be Website mangement and development, in few it could be something else. So, to sum up it's an all-round technical job regardless of the educational background you came from. You have to learn a lot and keep upgrading. And if you are on regular position (not contractual) then internal transfer may happen and then you have to adjust to the needs of the department you get transferred....Read More

Dislikes

There are no major cons, 1. It's hard to get residential quarters.(People are more than quarters) 2. Chances of Promotion on regular positions are narrow. 3. Salary in IISc is Level 5 under 7th CPC, but in most of the IITs it's Level 6 for the same post.

Professors are mostly well-qualified and very cooperative. Very fewer office politics. The campus ambience is amazing.

Administrative works are quite slow. It really needs to improve.

Competitive environment for research based studies. Advances technologies are made available to the researchers. Good communication between students and teachers. The campus is lush green and beautiful in every sense.

Dislikes

Though being the top rated institute in the country, still the labs use age old protocols that increase the duration of the projects. The facilities are not maintained nicely. Politics is there between labs.

Work Details

The project was quite interesting. I got to have hands on experience on molecular biology and biotechnology tools that enhanced my scientific skills. Though the beginning was little slow as I was learning and doing, but the teammates were very helpful.
