If you want work life balance then HSBC Technology is the right place for you. The yearly 22 leaves are credited at the beginning of the year instead of earning each month. There are 3 statutory holidays and the rest of the 10 public holidays are also credited at the beginning of the year. There is flexibility in work timings too. In fact I have seen people buy land then supervise and build their own property on that land - thats the kind of flexibility you can leverage. 1. To start with - career progression will be next to none. The promotions are entirely based on your personal relationships with managers rather than performance. Infact your yearly performance appraisal itself will not depend much on your work performance. There will be hardly any projects with new technology to upgrade your skills. 2. You may get good ratings but you may not get bonuses or hikes as per your ratings. In short salaries/pay hikes/benefits are not normalised and highly irregular. Don't be fooled when HR's will say otherwise. Senior Consultant Specialist can be paid as low as 20L per anum to as high as 35-40L per annum in the same team/technology. Similarly consultant specialist may be paid higher than Senior Consultant Specialist - yes these things are normal in HSBC. 3. There is something called Internal Job Posting which facilitates internal movement of colleagues across service lines/department. The process is simple - you apply, appear for interview and if you pass you will be offered the job - the whole process supposedly should be highly confidential. I was in WPB and have seen first hand how this system is misused. Candidates will be interviewed for namesake. The positions were ultimately given to candidates who had good rapport with the concerned managers or relatives/friends with the managers. The reporting managers of the other candidates would be informed (informally) about their application - thereby impacting the year end appraisals. Believe me or not this happens regularly. 4. You will be given mandatory learnings on conflict of interest. However you will soon find out that husbands are promoting their wives within the department and no one even raising any conflict of interest issues.
