Amazon is the worst company to work for. Highly political environment. People without working are surviving and getting good hikes but people who actually works harder are thrown out of organisation via politics and pip. PIP is one of the terrible process manager uses to create any case against their teammates and throw them out of company. There is no work life balance, even there is no work-life harmony though. I got to work on high scale system and discuss with cross vertical teams and it was very healthy experience. Lot you can learn on the entire lifecycle of the product. Probably one of best places for SDE experience.

Though they call it properly defined process. Their are loop holes, which managers (L6) and skip managers (L7) tend to use. In my case their was no major issues apart from initial adapting to the amazon culture like Document writing. During my initial days of document writing was not as per the standard, which I did agree upon and Ihad improved since then. The time I had been asked to leave was when Amazon also been laying off, some of the folks were removed part PIP process which Amazon usually does 10% of the employees every year (which may not be the same every year though). The way I was pinned was some thing that wasn't some thing anyone should undergo. My first manager who was also asked to leave had informed me that Managers are been asked to give a list of bottom 3 of every team and in my out of 9 people only 2 were above 6 months ( why people over 6 months will be looked ? that is the minimum period employee should be part of organization before being considered for evaluation ) and they are tenured like (2+ years) where in I just crossed 6 months. Meanwhile the manager who informed left and new manager joined, now the new manager only weekly calls never called out anything specific on my performance, later post successful delivery of the product very fine day manager as conveyed that I will be put into focus (In general, you will not be informed that you will put into focus, but he did so that It could help me find job ) and as per amazon policy you will be assigned and you could come out of it, but in my case I was told there is no point in fighting the focus. Finally I decided accept and leave. I had this experience with Amazon prime video (India) Bangalore. I had to specify the division not all people in Amazon are bad, My friend who is also Manager in Amazon, had helped on of the candidate get out of PIP. Hope it finds most of you helpful. Be agile and have frequent connect with people, unlike my situation where I didn't have frequent connect due to covid period and of course my tenure was lesser had played a part.
