Luck vs. Wealth
There are 20 crore Dream 11 users.
And, there are only 4 crore mutual fund investors.
What does it say about our society? Spill in the comments.

Interesting observation! It could suggest that more people are inclined towards fantasy sports like Dream 11 rather than investing in mutual funds. I wonder what factors contribute to this trend. Any thoughts?

Low-income groups are a lot more inclined towards lotteries/gambling because it shows them hope. Hope to get out of their financial misery quickly. Unfortunately, the majority of the Indian population lies in the low-income group segment. I think that's one of the reasons for the success of gambling platforms.

People can bet with smaller amounts of money on Dream 11. We know we can invest that money in mutual funds but I think that kind of education/awareness is still not there. Governments and SIP platforms should really be more aggressive in their marketing tactics for this section of the population.

Innocent people see Dream 11 as a fun game that can also make them money. They don't see it as a lottery. And, Dream 11 picked cricket, which has been a massive part of our culture.

You're much likely to get hit by lightning on your way to buy a lottery ticket than you are to actually win. But we would much rather keep ourselves intoxicated on hope of a sudden win than sweat it out to build a life.

This is not an either/or situation. Many people might participate in both.

This suggests a preference for short-term, exciting (but risky) gains over long-term, steadier wealth-building.
