Key skills for the job
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer(Rotary) specializing in rotary equipment for the chemical and fertilizer industry. The ideal candidate will have 6-8 years of experience in designing, analyzing, and optimizing rotary machines such as pumps, compressors, blowers, turbines, and other rotating equipment. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the development of high-performance and reliable equipment tailored to industry-specific applications.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Rotary Equipment Design: Design, develop, and optimize rotary equipment like pumps, turbines, compressors, and mixers. Conduct mechanical analysis (stress, fatigue, vibration) and thermal analysis to ensure reliability and durability.
Create detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, and specifications for manufacturing.
2. Project Management: Lead design projects from concept to implementation, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion. o Collaborate with process, electrical, and instrumentation engineers to integrate mechanical designs with system requirements.
3. Technical Analysis: o Perform finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to analyze the performance and efficiency of rotary systems. o Evaluate and select materials suitable for chemical and high-temperature environments, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
4. Troubleshooting & Optimization: o Provide technical support for troubleshooting rotary equipment failures, proposing modifications or upgrades for performance improvement. Investigate mechanical failures and recommend corrective measures to minimize downtime in critical plant operations.
5. Industry Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI, etc.).
Develop and maintain documentation for compliance audits, including design calculations, test procedures, and reports.
6. Vendor Management: Collaborate with external suppliers and vendors to source rotary components, review their designs, and ensure alignment with project requirements.
Conduct technical evaluations of bids and vendor performance for quality assurance.
7. Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest advancements in rotary machinery and incorporate best practices into the design process. Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in the design and operation of rotary equipment to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance safety.
Qualifications: • Bachelors or masters degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
6-8 years of experience in the design and development of rotary equipment, preferably within the chemical or fertilizer industry.
• Proficient in using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) and design analysis tools (ANSYS, COMSOL, etc.).
• Hands-on experience with FEA and CFD analysis techniques.
Strong knowledge of materials engineering, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as ASME, API, and ANSI.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and innovative approach.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Skills:
• Experience in working with high-temperature, corrosive, or abrasive environments typical to chemical and fertilizer plants.
• Knowledge of rotating machinery condition monitoring techniques and tools.
• Familiarity with reliability engineering and maintenance strategies (e.g., RCM, TPM)
