Electrical Engineer

Job Description:

The Electrical Engineer with a distillery background will be responsible for installation, maintaining, and operating electrical systems within the distillery. This role involves overseeing the electrical infrastructure, ensuring equipment operates efficiently, troubleshooting issues, and implementing electrical safety standards. The Electrical Engineer will also collaborate with the production and maintenance teams to ensure smooth operations, minimize downtime, and improve energy efficiency in the distillery process.

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical System Design & Maintenance:

• Design, implement, and maintain electrical systems, including motors, control panels, power distribution, and instrumentation used in distillery operations.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults or malfunctions in distillery equipment to minimize production downtime.

• Process Optimization:
• Work closely with production and maintenance teams to ensure electrical systems are optimized for distillation, fermentation and other distillery processes.
• Implement energy-saving initiatives to reduce power consumption and enhance overall efficiency.

• Automation & Control Systems:

• Develop and manage the installation and programming of automation and control systems (PLCs, SCADA) that enhance process control and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot and repair control systems, ensuring seamless operation of distillery processes.
• Collaborate with automation engineers to integrate new technologies and maintain system upgrades.

Compliance & Safety:

• Ensure all electrical systems comply with local, national, and industry-specific safety regulations, including hazardous location classifications.
• Implement and enforce electrical safety procedures to protect equipment and personnel from hazards such as electrical shocks, arc flashes, and short circuits.
• Ensure proper documentation and adherence to compliance standards related to electrical systems in a distillery environment.

Equipment Installation & Commissioning:

• Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of new electrical equipment and systems in the distillery.
• Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure the correct specifications and installation procedures are followed for electrical components.

• Technical Documentation:
• Maintain detailed records of electrical designs, schematics, maintenance logs, and any modifications made to the electrical systems.
• Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation for compliance audits and future reference.

• Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving:
• Identify and resolve issues related to electrical equipment and systems, including process bottlenecks and equipment failures.
• Use diagnostic tools and techniques to locate the root cause of electrical problems and implement effective solutions.

Qualifications:

• Education:
• Bachelors degree in Electrical engineering.
• Additional certifications in industrial electrical systems, automation, or process control are an advantage.

• Experience:
• Min 10 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer in a manufacturing or industrial setting, preferably in distillery or similar process industries (brewery, food & beverage, chemical, etc.).

• Skills:
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, control systems (PLCs, SCADA), and process automation within a distillery or similar setting.
• Proficiency in electrical design software, AutoCAD, and other relevant electrical engineering tools.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly diagnose electrical issues.
• Knowledge of electrical safety standards and regulations, particularly in hazardous industrial environments.

Other Requirements:

• Hands-on experience with distillery or food & beverage processing equipment is highly desirable.
• Willing to locate to project site.
