Job Description:

The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing project schedules using project management tools such as MS Project or equivalent software. The role focuses on ensuring that project timelines are realistic, attainable, and aligned with project goals. The Planning Engineer collaborates with project teams to track progress, manage resources, and mitigate potential risks that could impact project completion. This role is crucial for delivering projects on time and within budget, ensuring effective project coordination and communication among all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:


Project Planning & Scheduling:

  • Develop detailed project schedules using MS Project or equivalent software, outlining all phases, activities, and milestones.
  • Collaborate with PMC, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define the scope, timeline, and resource allocation for each project.
  • Ensure that individual package project schedules align with main schedule, resource availability, and budgetary constraints.
  • Create and update progress reports to monitor project advancement and identify potential delays.

  • Progress Monitoring:
  • Track the progress of projects against the original schedule, identifying and addressing any deviations or delays.
  • Analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) such as work completion rates and resource utilization to ensure the project remains on track.
  • Provide regular progress updates to management, including project status, key risks, and potential solutions.

  • Resource Management:
  • Allocate and optimize resources, such as labour, materials, and equipment, to meet project goals efficiently.
  • Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and supplies.

  • Risk Management & Mitigation:
  • Identify risks that could impact project timelines, such as equipment failures, material shortages, or manpower constraints.
  • Work with project managers to develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimize the impact on project schedules.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Act as the central point of contact for project scheduling information, ensuring effective communication between PMC, project teams, contractors, and subcontractor.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate activities and ensure that interdependencies are managed effectively.
  • Conduct regular meetings with stakeholders to review schedule progress and address any challenges or bottlenecks.
  • Change Management:
  • Evaluate the impact of changes in project scope, design, or execution on the overall project timeline.
  • Update schedules to reflect approved changes and communicate these changes to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure that schedule adjustments do not compromise the projects overall objectives, budget, or quality standards.
  1. Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of project schedules, including baseline plans, progress updates, and schedule revisions.
  • Generate weekly and monthly reports on project status, highlighting progress, delays, and potential risks.
  • Prepare detailed reports to management, including recommendations for improving project timelines.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
    • Certifications in project management (such as PMP) are a plus.
  • Experience:
    • 8-10 years of experience in project planning and scheduling, ideally within construction, distillery, oil and gas or related industry.
    • Proven expertise in using MS Project or equivalent project management software for planning, scheduling, and tracking project progress.
    • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and principles, including resource allocation, risk management, and scheduling techniques.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent software.
    • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop accurate project schedules.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with project teams and stakeholders.
    • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
    • Problem-solving skills, with a focus on finding creative solutions to schedule, resolve conflicts and project delays.
    • Strong understanding of project financials, cost control, and resource optimization.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing project requirements and timelines.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Willing to relocate to project site.
