We are seeking ahighly motivated Food Packaging Applications Scientist with a strong backgroundin material science (Ph.D.in Chemistry and Biology) to join our R&D team. The ideal candidatewill have deep knowledge in the evolution of novel materials, experience withsuccessful scale-up processes, and a robust understanding of structure-propertyrelationships in packaging applications. This role will focus on developing andscaling new material structures for food packaging applications, enhancingprocessing techniques, and integrating additive manufacturing into packagingsolutions.
The key outcomes expected from one in thisrole would be:
1.Materials Development & Scale-Up:
Lead research and developmentefforts in creating new materials and structures for food packagingapplications with a focus on sustainability and performance.
Drive successful scale-up ofmaterials from lab-scale innovations to commercial production.
Explore new and alternativematerials, including bio-based, biodegradable, and recyclable options, thatalign with food packaging standards and environmental concerns.
Conduct extensive research onthe structure-property relationships of materials, surface interactions innovel structure creations, prototype generation of novel structures and ensuringthey meet the necessary performance, food safety and quality standards.
Use advanced characterizationtechniques to evaluate the mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties ofpackaging materials.
Creation of novel materialstructures with high barrier properties, shelf life, product safety, and homecompostability for food packaging.
3. PerformanceStudies and Product Establishment:
Work with business developmentteam to test and standardize material structures for specified packagingcategory
Work closely with processingengineers to optimize material processing techniques for during packagingperformance trials and ensuring seamless transition using novel materialstructures
Collaborate with manufacturingteams to integrate new materials into existing production lines or additivemanufacturing technologies
Facilitate with otherconverting partners (printing/slitting/custom packaging) to provide packagingsolutions to brand owners
4. End of Life Studies
Understanding of end-of-life concepts for flexible food packaging
Work with customers on sustainable partnerships to establish thecircularity and regenerative solutions
Involve in end-of-life regulatory compliances to ensure productmarketisation
5.Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration:
Collaborate withcross-functional teams, including chemists, biologists, engineers, and productdesigners, to drive innovation in packaging materials.
Work closely with regulatoryand quality assurance teams to ensure materials meet global food safetyregulations and compliance standards.
Work with finance and logisticteams to ensure timely supply of materials to customers satisfaction
6.Market and Application Insight:
Understand market trends andcustomer needs in compostable/ home compostable food packaging to give state offeedback to material and applicationdevelopment.
Conduct market research andcompetitor analysis to ensure the companypackaging solutions remaincompetitive and innovative
Pro-active and able to convinceteam and customers on the emerging trends and our solutions leading toaggressive business growth
What you will bring to the table:
Ph.D. in MaterialScience with a focus on Chemistry and Biology.
Deep understanding of materialscience, applications, and characterization techniques.
Proven experience in developingand scaling new materials for industrial applications, preferably in foodpackaging.
Strong knowledge ofstructure-property relationships for packaging materials, including mechanical,thermal, and chemical properties.
Hands-on experience withprocessing techniques, ability to collaborate with manufacturing or vendor teamsfor scale-up, customer focussed packing demonstration and standardization, andassisting customers during packaging establishment.
Ability to work incross-disciplinary teams and lead projects from concept to commercialization.
Strong analytical skills andability to perform detailed research and technical documentation
Experience in bio-based,biodegradable, or recyclable material for food packaging applications.
Familiarity with global foodsafety regulations and standards for packaging materials.
Knowledge of sustainabilitypractices and environmental impact assessments for materials.
