Sutherland - COBOL Developer - Life & Annuity Insurance Domain (7-9 yrs)

Job Description :

- Prior working experience in the Life & Annuity Insurance domain within the North American region.

- Strong knowledge of Variable Universal Life (VUL), Variable Annuities (VA), Fixed Annuities (FA), and Indexed Annuities.

- Hands-on experience with Micro Focus COBOL, CICS on Unix/Linux platforms.

- Proficiency in Shell Scripting for automation and process optimization.

- Expertise in SQL query development using Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, IBM DB2 z/OS, or DB2 LUW.

- Experience with batch job scheduling tools for L&A insurance transactions.

- Familiarity with COBOL debugging tools like DFED and Animator.

- Prior experience with L&A Policy Administration Systems (PAS) such as :

1. Vantage One

2. WMA

3. CyberLife

4. OIPA, FAST, ALIP

5. McCamish Systems

6. LIDP ADMI

- Strong understanding of policy lifecycle, underwriting, claims processing, and annuity contracts.

- Experience working in an Agile environment using JIRA and Azure DevOps (ADO).

- Ability to troubleshoot and optimize batch processes and system performance.

- Knowledge of modernization strategies for legacy COBOL applications is a plus.

- Experience integrating APIs and web services within insurance systems is an advantage.

- Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and collaboration in cross-functional teams.

- Strong communication skills to interact with stakeholders, business analysts, and technical teams.

Qualifications :

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

- 5+ years of experience in Life & Annuity Insurance application development.

- Proven expertise in COBOL development, SQL, and Unix/Linux scripting.

- Experience with Life & Annuity PAS systems is a strong advantage.

- Hands-on experience in Agile methodologies and familiarity with JIRA and Azure DevOps.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail
