A Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is a senior executive responsible for an organizations information security. The CISOs primary role is to develop and implement an information security program that ensures the security of the organizations computer networks and data.

• Assessing and auditing computer networks and IT for potential weak points and implementing solutions
• Establishing security measures to detect, prevent, and mitigate cyber attacks
• Developing response protocols for successful cyber attacks
• Crafting disaster recovery plans for compromised data
• Providing ongoing training and continuing education to staff
• Keeping company leadership informed about the state of the network security
• Developing proposals for cybersecurity investments and presenting them to executive leadership
• Cybersecurity measures (e.g. firewalls, intrusion detection systems)
• Risk management and mitigation strategies
• Compliance and regulatory requirements (e.g. HIPAA, PCI-DSS)
• Incident response and disaster recovery planning
• Cloud security and virtualization
• Network security architecture and design
• Threat intelligence and vulnerability management
• Security awareness training and education
